We saw two Rusty Blackbirds this afternoon at Clear Springs Park, El Paso
County. I don't know if it was a pair or an adult and a juvenile.
The park is south of Fountain, at I-25 exit 123; go to the east . The birds
were feeding in the shallow water and mud at the river. From

area where the yellow pipe fence is; between 2:10 and 2:30, it make 3
appearances and gave us very good looks. I have poor pictures because of poor

Yesterday, I saw a Clay-colored Sparrow on the south side of Latigo Blvd,
between Elbert Rd and Eastonville Rd;
it would perch for a short time on the fence wire and then go in the grass for
some time. I watched it about 30 minutes.

Around noon today, we saw a Cassin's Vireo at Sonderman Park, Colorado Springs.
I first saw it in the trees right next to the south end of the visitors center.
It then flew a bit deeper into the park, where the footbridg is.
Later, I got a glimpse of it near the big ditch to the south edge of the

Rose and 8th, near the white- picket fenced yard with the feeder. It flew

To my great surprise, there was a VESPER Sparrow on the south side of Bluegill
Rd in Falcon today.
I actually made a U-turn to go look at it again as I hardly believed my eyes.

Off Tamlin Rd, there was a Merlin off the west to east stretch and another one

Jeannie Mitchell and I spent a few hours at Chico Basin Ranch this morning (fee
area). In addition to the summer birds including a singing/fluttering Cassin's
Sparrow (EPC), we saw 2 Greater Yellowlegs, 3 Dowitchers I tried to turn into
Short-billed's but I just don't know enough about them,
I wasn't going to report this bird because it was gone as soon as I flushed it
but after discussing this with another local birder it might be of interest to
EPC birders as a heads-up for Upland Sandpipers in the county.
Early Saturday morning (between 7:00-7:15) I flushed an Upland in my yard
Of interest to El Paso County birders.:
We spent a little time at Sonderman Park this morning and it was quite birdy.
In addition to the park's residents and summer birds, we saw : Yellow,
Wilson's, Northern Waterthrush, Nashville Warblers, Plumbeous and Cassin's

Late this afternoon, I saw a Bobolink at the western end of Tamlin Road, El
Paso County, a short distance before the pavement ends.
I saw it briefly in the grass by the fence then watched it fly to the south.

Colorado Birds
After reading Ted F.'s post about birds migrating over EPC last night and
noticing an unusual number of birds in our yard, I decided to check Sonderman
Park in Colo Springs after an appointment; there was a lot of activity from the
usual summer residents and a Bleu-gray Gnatcatcher fall-out. I
We did bit of birding at Fountain Creek today. There was good activity from
the regular summer residents with several juveniles seen.
There were 2 Townsend's Warblers and 4-5 Virginia's Warblers, by the small
stream across the gazebo near the north parking lot.
There was a Sharp-shinned Hawk
Does anyone know if the Curlew Sandpiper is still at Jackson Res?

We did a bit of birding yesterday at Valco Ponds, Osprey Picnic Area and Swim
Beach area, hoping the cold front brought new birds.
It was overall quite slow. Of note, was a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker just west of
the parking lot at Valco.

Meadowlake Pond in Falcon. First I thought it was a little late for that bird
but especially unsusual to see it on the ice; not at the edge of the pond but
