[Cooker] [Bug 5099] [kernel] The obsolete module DC2XX is loaded when connecting Kodak digital camera
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5099 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-11-11 00:24 --- It's fixed in the latest tmb and mm kernels... Regards Thomas -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: NEW creation_date: description: See the URL. If one connects a digital camera from Kodak, the DC2XX kernel module is loaded and this blocks the access via GPhoto2. One has always to rmmod the module manually to be able to access the camera and newbies do not know this and think their camera is not supported. The user who reported the problem in the MandrakeClub probably uses Mandrake 9.1, but it is possible that the bug still persists in 9.2. I cannot test as I do not have a Kodak camera and the problem does not appear with my Olympus C-3000Z and Canon Digital IXUS 400. If the bug is already fixed, simply mark it as fixed, if another package is responsable please change it.

[Cooker] [Bug 5880] [kernel] New: kernel-secure is broken

(or actually it fails to sense the limits, setting them to 0) Easy way to reproduce: 1. install kernel-secure 2. boot with it 3. you will see an error message about failing to unmount initrd.. if you look at the syslogs you will see: grsec: attempted resource overstep by requesting 4096 for RLIMIT_CORE against limit 0 by... (in this case console-chars) now this same bug will show up if you try to start for example X (not that I want tu run X on a secured kernel, but anyway...) The worse part of this is that if you put it on your firewall, it will slowly start to lock up the kernel since the grsec thinks it's an hacking attempt, and will freeze it's functions by longer and longer periods until your firewall/gw stops passing traffic through... -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Doing so, it would be the first and only distribution offering this definite bonus. Swsusp patches can be found at: http://swsusp.sf.net/ To give a quick overview, when activated, those patches enable the writing of all the RAM to the swap partition (and a few other things) and turns off the machine. At next bootup, the RAM will be rewritten with what's in the swap, so the state of the machine is virtually identical to when it was turned off, bypassing all the init scripts and so forth, bringing the boot time to a decent time. Thanks for considering this very valuable addon. Aurelien Marchand

Others (see bug #4000) have noted that this is due to a problem with XFS. I haven't seen this problem on a 9.1 system that uses ext3. It's also been reported that only if the root partition is ext3, and the other partitions are XFS, there is no problem. This problem is in all the kernels since 2.4.21-0.13mdk, and all, including the current 'cooker' release, use the same XFS patch snapshot 2.4.20-2003-01-14_00:43_UTC I've built a clean 2.4.21 kernel, and applied the current patch from SGI SGI XFS snapshot-2.4.21-2003-06-23_01:45_UTC for version 1.3 of XFS, and the debugger works. I suggest that an entry in the 9.1 Errata be made that systems that are to be used for development shouldn't use XFS.

With my modified boot disks the install worked, but the Promise controller won the race over the VIA controller regarding wich ide chipset would be the booting one... This of course messed up the system, since the BIOS was set to use VIA as primary IDE chipset... Then the MDK installer tried to resolve the mess, by adding theese to the lilo.conf: disk=/dev/hde bios=0x81 other=/dev/hde1 label=windows2 table=/dev/hde map-drive=0x80 to=0x81 map-drive=0x81 to=0x80 but obviously it was not the way to go... USB devices are: Kodak DC3400 camera, HP DeskJet 970 Printer, Epson Perfection 1250 Scanner (all USB1.1 devices). Problem: With BIOS USB settings set at V1.1 V2.0, Mandrake loads modules usb-ohci and ehci-hcd. No apparent problems in dmesg. However, my USB printer and scanner would be detected on only one of six available USB ports in MDK 9.1 RC2, and the camera would not be detected at all. (I am unsure of whether there was a problem with previous builds). Workaround: On changing the BIOS settings to V1.1 only, and commenting out the ehci-hcd part in /etc/modules.conf, all six USB ports are able to detect device insertion and removal (as seen in USBView); and the camera is now detected and works correctly. In Windows 2000/XP, all ports work correctly for device insertion and removal when the BIOS is set to USB1.1 USB2.0.

http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3470 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-21 17:37 --- That I know, but the ACPI stuff inthe kernel is known to get in conflict with the APIC stuff... on some systems ... Just an example: I have an nForce2 board that has onboard 3Com network that works only if either I'm running with acpi=off or noapic The idea of ACPI is to tell the system how to use the hardware, including the APIC... On my system the APIC assigns my 3Com to irq21, but the ACPI does not tell the rest of the system where to find the nic, so it does not work... (for now that is..., when we get better ACPI support this will be fixed...) When I run acpi=off the BIOS and APIC is communicating as they should, and the system works... same goes for acpi=on noapic... So yes... if ACPI and APIC does not communicate correctly, you get into trouble So...my question: Have you tried to boot with acpi=off? Does it work? If so... It proves my point... Thomas PS. ofcourse I would like the ACPI stuff to work perfect, perhaps 9.2 will be an ACPI release... I expect the last ALSA update broke it (it used to work fine). The card uses the snd-ens1371 driver. Any program which attempts to output to ALSA natively freezes as soon as it attempts to play sound, and cannot be exited normally, even ctrl-c fails to work - has to be 'kill'ed. This has been verified with xmms in ALSA mode (using the xmms-alsa plugin), totem, xine with the ALSA plugin, and ogg123 (which attempts to output in ALSA mode by default). However, sound works with the ALSA driver if its OSS emulation is used - i.e., I can get sound perfectly well with any program set to output in OSS mode, using the ALSA driver. None of the programs I checked gave any error output, they just froze. This is quite a popular legacy card. Can't find anything in the ALSA mailing lists about this.
