I just upgraded to Ubuntu 17.04 and on trying to connect more than one
external monitor, the system either goes to a black screen (recoverable
from a system terminal) or will switch on one external monitor but not
both. This was working with the ati proprietary drivers in 16.1
I see the problem here as well in 17.04.
The solution with x-systemd.automount mount option in fstab seems to

No need to launch the app with the --debug flag, if you have the debug symbols
a complete stack trace will be printed in the console when the app crashes, and
that should be enough to identify the issue.
That error is not really something that could ever cause the system to
freeze, as it simply means that we cannot find a dkms module (and
therefore gpu-manager can't get information about it). It should be more
of a debugging message than an actual error.
