I'd suggest looking for network issues (firewall, dns, ...). I suppose
you don't see anything helpful in the logs?

At startup SC tries to contact DNS server. If SC is started at system
boot sometimes the NAS's DNS server has not been setup so SC uses
OpenDNS and for some reason some ip addresses do nto resolved - this
happened with some AlienBBC users on NASs.

After upgrading from SlimServer to SqueezeCenter 7.1, I have no
Plugins in my Squeezebox's Home Menu (or SqueezeCenter's Inactive
menu items). Same with SC 7.2.
Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong? I have reset the hardware
and software, and tried uninstalling SC and installing again.
There's no firewall in play here and the only DNS is that on my
broadband router, which is a different IP range to that of my audio
devices, which aren't internet facing. I'll update to the latest
firmware and see where that takes me.

It's likely that you have plugins that were released with a maxVersion check,
preventing them from running in 7.1.
Plugin authors set the version that they knew the plugin would work with,
guessing on the side of caution that future versions of SC would be
incompatible.

The controller has some bizarre problems working with perfectly ordinary
wireless networks - there's got to be something in the Controller
firmware that trips it up when connecting to a large number of routers,
there are too many people with problems for it to always be a router

Simbo is right. The option is missing from the webgui.
I did find another way though:
Manually edit the server.prefs file. There is an option in there
playtrackalbum. I set the value for that option to 0 and voila: I am
able to play single tracks from an album again.

I know what you mean about audio feedback sometimes being useful during
forwarding or rewinding, and I agree that a facility should have been
retained for that.

it - eventually found it 'pre-loved' in the stock room - picked it up for
