Re: [Dx4win] CW announce, nil

2023-03-11 Thread LEE HALLIN
I have found a program called "everything" (Freeware from
https://www.voidtools.com/downloads/) extremely handy in tracking files down.
It searches all your drives (hard or SSD) for a file name or wildcarded name
you specify (Ex: *.DXQ) and then displays a list. You can sort by any column
displayed by clicking the column heading. I often sort by the "Date Modified"
column so most recently modified files will show first. That's usually when I
find the file created some place I wasn't expecting. It also supports MANY
languages.

Disclaimer: I have nothing to do with the product other than being a pleased
user.

Re: [Dx4win] Importing .adi files and converting them to DXL file format

2022-11-06 Thread LEE HALLIN
Jim,

In addition to what Mike and Paul said:

If you want more selection choices and/or possibly more fields filled into
DX4WIN from LOTW, you might want to try K1MU's site at
https://www.rickmurphy.net/lotwquery.htm. It shows a full screen of parameters
you can fill in to narrow what it downloads for you (you can just hit SUBMIT if
you like). It will also create a lowreport.adi (or lotwreport (x).adi) file in
your default download area. Once you run the query and a lotwreport.adi file
is created, I would suggest creating a NEW .DXL file (with a unique name) in
DX4WIN and import the lotwreport.adi file into it. At any time, you can click
File -> Info to get a summary of information about your log (Number of QSOs,
number of comments,etc).

In case you haven't discovered it yet, DX4WIN has a very cool "filter" feature.
When you are in the QSO window hit . A screen like the QSO screen will
appear with no data filled in. For instance if you wanted to find all QSOs in
AK, simply enter "AK" (no quotes) in the state field and hit . You can
PgDn or PgUP to go through the selected QSOs. If you want to see if you worked
a certain call before, hit F8 and enter the call in question, then hit .

I have made a spreadsheet that shows what fields may be in the downloaded
lotwreport.adi file depending on which of the 4 boxes you check on the K1MU
screen. If you (or anyone) want a copy of the spreadsheet, send me an email
(offline) and I'll send it to you as an attachment (if I can get it past the
restrictions with email attachments).

Re: [Dx4win] Group List

2022-08-18 Thread LEE HALLIN
Years ago I wrote a program that gives:
Group #, Group Name, # of uses (# QSOs with that group number), Date of the
oldest QSO in the group and date of newest QSO in the group.

As far as I know, the program works on DX4WIN .DXL files produced by versions
1.10 through v9.0.9.1259.

It produces a .CSV file that you can then pretty up with Excel (or your
favorite spreadsheet program) and print it.

Another feature it has is to let you know of "group numbers" that appear in
QSO(s) but have not been defined with a Group Name.

It also lists info about any filters the log contains.

If you are interested in having the program, drop me an email and I'll send you
a sample of what it produces and the program if you like what it produces.

Re: [Dx4win] Search For QSOs with Deleted Entities

2022-08-01 Thread LEE HALLIN
Hi Kris,

I think I have a way to find QSOs with deleted countries but it involves some
work. The following involves many steps but once you do a section once,
repeating it for other prefixes should be faster.

Basically, you get a list of deleted DXCC countries that you have worked
(Reports -> check "include deleted" -> OK). Then for each deleted country
(indicated by a D in the column with "D" in the heading) that you have worked,
note each "prefix". For EACH of those prefixes, do the following:
  1) While on the QSO screen
  2) Click Filter
  3) Click "Cancel filter"
  4) Hit F8
  5) Hit the TAB key (or click in the Prefix box)
  6) Enter a prefix you want to search for
  7) Hit Enter
  8) Click File
  9) Click Import/Export
 10) Click the highest DX4WIN format (Ex. DX4WIN8) listed
 11) Click File
 12) Click Export
 13) Enter a file name for the .DXQ/.DXN file to be created (I used the prefix
with any slashes changed to dashes -- OK/D would have filename OK-D)
 14) Click SAVE
 15) Click YES when it prompts with "Filter active, use it for export?"
 16) For each prefix you extract, note the count of how many QSOs were
exported. This will help you verify counts later -- after you make a
log from all the exported files.
 17) Click OK (after the export is done)
 18) Click File
 19) Click Exit

Once you have created a export file (.DXQ/.DXN) for each of the deleted
prefixes in your log:
 20) Click File
 21) Click NEW (create a NEW DX4WIN log file)
 22) Navigate to the directory where the Export files were created
 23) Specify the name of the log file that will contain all your exported data

For each prefix file that you exported above, do the following:
 24) Click File
 25) Click Import/Export
 26) Click the DX4WIN export version number that you used in step 3 above
 27) Click File (on "Import / Export Filters" screen)
 28) Click Import
 29) Enter the export file name (Prefix?) that you used earlier
 30) Click Open
 31) On "Options for duplicate QSOs" screen, click OK
 32) Click OK (after the import summary)
 33) Click File
 34) Click Exit
If you have more prefixes to Import, go to step 24

Once you have Imported all your Prefix files:
 35) Click File
 36) Click SAVE (to save this log to disk)
 37) Click File
 38) Click Info
In theory, the "Nr QSOs" value should equal the sum of the Imported
QSOs counts in step 16 above

One caveat I am aware of (might be others that my test file didn't find),
I entered prefix of KZ5 which resulted in 60 QSOs. However, only ONE of the 60
QSOs actually had a prefix of KZ5 -- all the others had prefix of "K". To
catch this situation, I suggest after you do an "export" of a
prefix, verify that all selected QSOs have the "prefix" that you were after.

Sorry this was so long. If anything doesn't make sense, contact me and
I'll see what I can do to make it clearer.

Re: [Dx4win] FFMA in Custom Database

2021-06-20 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi all,

I spent some time this weekend making the 2012 vintage program more user
friendly (runnable by you)

It is run via the Command Prompt. Takes two arguments:
  1) the source (DX4WIN8) .DXQ file for the log in question
  2) The .CSV destination file (specifying a "." will use the .DXQ file
name and change the extension to .CSV)

You can read the .CSV file in Excel and sort it, print it, etc.

I "think" with more time, I can generate a .DXQ file with the Award set to
FFMA and Award Value set to the 4 character Grid.
It would ONLY do this when there is no Award already specified for the QSO.
Then, after backing up your current .DXL file, you could "Import" the .DXQ
file I generate and update the 6m QSOs in your .DXL file.

If you are interested in the program as it exists now and/or the added
option to enter the Award information into your .DXL log,
please email me and I'll send you the program as an attachment now and info
about the .DXL updating version when I get it done.

Re: [Dx4win] FFMA in Custom Database

2021-06-17 Thread Lee Hallin
Years ago (2012) I wrote a program for someone that wanted to chase FFMA.

It includes one line for each possible FFMA gridsquare (488) and is output
in .CSV format.
The following sample is in space delimited format but the column alignment
is a bit "off".
View it with a fixed width font and it should look better.

Num QCnt Grid St CallQSO Date Conf LoTW ConfCnt LotwCnt
   1 0 CM79
   2 0 CM86
   3 24 CM87 CA N6MM6/17/2021 YY6 9
   4 4 CM88 CA WD6FTB 6/17/2021 NY 2
   5 0 CM89
   6 0 CM93
 488 0 FN67
3107 135 230 135 230

If there is interest, I will work on making it user executable. It reads a
.DXQ file and creates the stats from that.
It will likely be a while (month or 2) before I have time to make the
program user executable. If you want something sooner, feel free to send
me your .DXL file (possibly with only 6m QSOs) and I will send you back a
.CSV file with the output file.

'DC" anywhere in the file. I sorted the file by the "state" field and
sorted the file on "state". Then I removed all duplicates in the "State"
field. There were 51 remaining records with the 51st one being 2 blanks.

At this point, I decided to remove all records that didn't have a "state"
present. Did this with an F8 with a "state" value of "!*" (all empty state
fields). This confirmed (to me) that the issue was not an issue with the
"state" value.

At that point, I restored to the original file and, starting with AK,
removed a state at a time; saved the log file, re-opened the log file and
then looked for the gibberish. If I found it, I would go to the next state
and repeat the scenario.

Eventually I got to HI. When I removed "HI" QSOs, the gibberish went
away! I restored the original log again. Now I removed, one county at a
time, all QSOs that had a "county" present. This left 19 QSOs. I then
started deleting each QSO, one at a time, until the gibberish went away.
Removing the AH6AA QSO got rid of the gibberish!

I thought I had seen in the past that there were AHxxx calls that were not
US calls. Just for grins, I changed the call from AH6AA to KH6AA. The
gibberish went away! I was done! :)

All the above took several hours and probably over 100 SAVE and re-openings
of the log!

2021-06-02 Thread Lee Hallin
Glad it worked for you Bud!

I'm a little surprised that it still was OK when you changed the call back
to AH6AA. In my testing, anytime I would remove AH6AA, the problem went
away and when I reverted back to the original log (that had AH6AA in it), I
would get the gibberish until I removed the AH6AA.

I am glad everything is OK now and hope it continues to be!

Re: [Dx4win] Failed Reading The Country File

2021-05-07 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi Bud,

What version of DX4WIN are you using?

If you are on v9 have you tried to download the latest version?

You might try moving DX4WIN.EXE from the other computer too in case the
.EXE itself got clobbered. Probably not likely but fairly easy to try.

Had you made any changes to your PC just before DX4WIN failed?

Re: [Dx4win] Importing different FT8 logs

2021-04-05 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi Radi,

First, make a backup copy of your log the way it is now (just in case a
"fix" goes wrong).

Were the FT8 imported contest QSOs the only activity for that day? (Were
all the FT8 QSOs in a date range where you had no contacts outside the
contest?) If so you should be able to create a filter specifying the date
range and then doing a "QSO -> Multiple QSOs operation -> set group
number". It will give you a count of how many QSOs are selected before you
enter the group number. Then enter the group number you want the imported
contest QSOs to be moved into.

If that wouldn't work,
  1) Create a new log (.DXL) file.
  2) Import the original FT8 QSOs into it.
  3) Click "QSO -> Multiple QSOs operation -> set group number" to that of
the group where you want them assigned to.
  4) Click "File -> Import/Export -> (the highest DX4WINx version available
in your version of DX4WIN - probably 8 or 9)
  5) Then click File -> Export
  6) Navigate to a location for the exported file (remember where it is!)
  7) Close and save the new .DXL file

  8) Open the log (.DXL) file where the FT8 QSOs are in the wrong group.
  9) Click File -> Import/Export -> Import -> DX4WINx (that you exported
to) -> File -> Import
 10) Hit down arrow and select the item "Import QSO replaces existing QSO
(SLOW)"
 11) Click "OK" (to start the import). It will give a summary of counts
 12) Look at some of the imported FT8 QSOs that had the wrong group before
(Group 1) and verify they have been fixed!
 13) Save the file ONLY AFTER you verify the import worked as you wanted.

Please let me/us know if it worked or not.

[Dx4win] How do you handle date and/or call mismatches between LoTW "Credit_Granted" and your log?

2021-04-02 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi all,

I am looking at someone else's log trying to find "matching" entries
between the LoTW DXCC_QSLs downloaded file and the users log.

I wrote a program to do some of this but there are a lot of issues it
doesn't/can't handle due to a variety of issues.

A simple case example might help explain:

When your log has a QSO date of, say, 7/14/2000 and LoTW's Credit_Granted
date for the same QSO is 7/13/2000, what do you do to reconcile them?

1) Change your log date to match that of LoTW?
2) Make a bogus entry in your log for 7/13/2001 which refers back to your
7/14/2000 entry?
This may throw off counts for the country or entity of the QSO.
3) If your logged call is wrong, I change the call to what it should have
been and include a
"Note for this QSO" indicating what I originally copied the call as.
Ex. ES7BQ was copied as ES7FQ
4) Some other idea?

I don't want to "reinvent the wheel" if others have a reliable/reasonable
way to handle the situation.

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN locks up on file import

2020-06-30 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi Mark,

Assuming your .DXL log file is WA0MHJ.DXL, see if you have a WA0MHJ.~DXL
file. If so, copy it to a unique name. This .~DXL file is a recent copy
of WA0MHJ.DXL.

What version of DX4WIN is this happening with?

If you create a "new" (different name) DX4WIN log file, can you import the
WSJT-X file?

Do you have another PC with the same version of DX4WIN on it?
If so, move your logfile.DXL (save a copy of logfile.dxl first if it
already exists on that PC) and WSJT-X file to that PC and try the import
again.

Do you have OTHER WSJT-X ADIF files you could import?
If so:
   1) Copy your logfile.DXL file to a new unique name (debug.dxl)
   2) Go into DX4WIN
   3) Open the debug.dxl file (or whatever you named it in step 1 above)
   4) Try importing a different WSJT-X file (not the one that you used
before)
   5) Did the import work?
If yes, try importing the WSJT-X file that didn't work

Re: [Dx4win] Tracking JA Prefectures and Cities

2020-06-16 Thread Lee Hallin
If there is interest and there is a report or file generated by LoTW that
has the "Japanese Prefectures", "Japan Century Cities" and/or "Japan
Century Guns" information in it, I could possibly write a program that
would read a DX4WIN .DXQ (export) file and the LoTW report/file and add the
"Japanese Prefectures", "Japan Century Cities" and/or "Japan Century Guns"
codes to either "Notes for this QSO or "Notes for this call" fields.
Optionally, I could set "Custom award" and "Custom award value" for the
matching QSOs.

First I would need a copy of a LoTW report or file that has the "Japanese
Prefectures", "Japan Century Cities" and/or "Japan Century Guns"
information in it.

I'm willing to do this if there is interest.

[Dx4win] Search for all QSOs with a "Frequency" filled in?

2020-06-06 Thread Lee Hallin
I am probably missing something obvious!

Using DX4WIN v9.0.9.1259, I did a F8 and, in the Frequency field, tried
entering an "*" or "!" but it beeped at me. It acts like only numeric
digits (and .) are acceptable. Is this true?

This isn't a "show stopper" since I can export to a .DXQ file and then scan
the Frequency field for non-blanks. Was just wondering if there is a
simpler way!

[Dx4win] Anyone had bogus LoTW Date values show up in a log?

2020-05-13 Thread Lee Hallin
First, I am NOT blaming DX4WIN for doing the following. Rather I am trying
to rule it out as the cause.

I have an old log that has probably been run through various versions of
DX4WIN. I was looking at it recently and noticed that it had several "odd"
LoTW Dates. Examples of "odd" are many dates before the QSO took place.
The LoTW Dates ranging from 3/2/1900 to 8/4/2079 when the QSO took place on
11/27/1999 or 11/28/1999!

Much to my surprise, it looks like I hadn't uploaded the log to LoTW so NO
LoTW Date was valid!

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks,

[Dx4win] Printer "setup" problem in v9.05?

2019-06-18 Thread Lee Hallin
Running on a PC running Windows 7 Pro.

I don't know if this a general problem or one related to, perhaps, my printer
(HP LJ 4000, parallel port connected).

If I click WINDOWS -> Logbook
Then Right click and click PRINT, then click Setup -> Landscape -> OK, then OK
to actually print, I get the Logbook printed in "Portrait" instead of Landscape.

I did it twice and the same behavior.

For grins, I tried the same scenario using DX4WIN v9.01 on a different PC and a
different printer and it printed in landscape. Don't know if it printed in
Landscape because there is an issue with Setup on my HP LJ 4000? Or if it is
related to the DX4WIN version 0.05 vs v9.01.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?

73,
Lee N7NU

P.S. I upgraded from v9.04 to 9.05. DX4WIN restarted and I did the above
scenario. I did NOT re-boot between the upgrade and running the above
scenario. I'll reboot the PC tonight (when I get home) and see if that makes a
difference.

[Dx4win] Do you want/need a "Flying Horse Callbook" for 2019 Winter (and beyond)?

2019-01-14 Thread Lee Hallin
With the passing of Duane AA6EE in Jan 2018 there was a void of no U. S.
Distributors of the RAC . Many received their RAC through Duane.
ARRL was/is offering 2018 Summer as their available version for about $52.

I am now able to answer those requests! If you are interested in getting one
of the current CDs (comes with a USB too) from me, drop me an email
(hall...@lanecc.edu) and I will respond off line. Initially payment will be
low-Tech (via check). Later I hope to get Paypal as an option but that hasn't
happened yet as I just got word today that I am the distributor. Price is $40
for U.S. delivery, including postage.
If you don't REPLY to this email (you compose your own email), please include
"Callbook" in the Subject: so I can identify it as a Callbook request or
question.

If you want delivery outside the U.S., let me know where the CD would be going
and I'll see what the postage would be - at this point I haven't a clue :)

[Dx4win] Has ANYONE received the 2019 Winter version of "Fly Horse"

2019-01-02 Thread Lee Hallin
I use Flying Horse with DX4WIN. I have a subscription and usually get the CD
by the end of Nov or beg of December. I have yet to receive it.

Flying Horse (Radio Amateur Callbook) site (callbook.biz) is still advertising
2018 Winter (NOT 2019) as the latest version.

ARRL is still offering 2018 Summer as their latest version.

I used to get my CD through Duane AA6EE but he is a SK now so I don't know of a

Do any of you have any insight as to what is going on?

[Dx4win] Anyone using the rotor interface to a Yaesu G-1000DXA?

2018-10-18 Thread Lee Hallin
I am considering getting this rotor. Is anyone using one with DX4WIN (9.0x).

Questions:
What interface do you use to control the rotor (Eg. Easy-Rotor-Control,Rotor
Card,etc)?
Does the interface work well?
If you use the ERC,
does DX4WIN take advantage of the "start slow, then speed
up in mid turn, then slow down at the end"
Would you get the same interface again or has something "better"
become available?

As for the rotor itself, has it worked well for you? How long?

Does the manual controller work well?

Is there a way to restrict the range to only 360 degrees (temporarily)?
I would like to use rotor sooner than later but can't replace the
coax yet (to allow for the 450 degree rotation.
Don't want to break something while turning too far!

Thanks for any feed back.

Re: [Dx4win] Error in Log File after computer crash

2018-06-04 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi Ernie,

If you haven't done so already, copy .~XL to .DXL.
The copy .DXL to another place or directory (so you'll have 2
copies of the .DXL)
Then try to open .DXL.

Do you have another PC (that didn't crash) that you could move the .DXL file
(that is having issues) to and open it with DX4WIN?

If you do and it works, that indicates it is NOT your log file that is
clobbered but some other file(s) that DX4WIN uses when starting up.

Oh, I just noticed the last 2 words in the error message: invalid filename
>From the time that you start DX4WIN to when you get the error, do you have a
>chance to do anything (select the log to open)? If you don't then it sounds
>like the "name of the last opened log file" that is remembered by DX4WIN got

Hope that helps.

[Dx4win] What do you do for LoTW DXCC_QSLs... entries that have wrong or bogus dates?

2018-02-12 Thread Lee Hallin
I have found that sometimes the entry in the DXCC_QSLs... file (that you
download from LoTW to show DXCC confirmations) has the wrong date. The date
seems to be "guessed" by LoTW. For instance, the confirmation QSO date for a
QSO says 19890101 when in reality the date of the QSO was 19890304. In this
case, do you create a "dummy" QSO for 19890101 and, perhaps via "Notes for this
QSO", point to the QSO in your log when you "really" worked them?

Or do you just keep track of the QSOs in DXCCQSLs that are wrong and ignore
them when they are shown as "unmatched" in your log?

Other ideas?

Thanks & 73,
Lee N7NU

P.S. Another date I have seen many times is 19451115; the date that DXCC
started.

Re: [Dx4win] Confirmation totals

2018-02-07 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi Dave,

I don't know what you want to do once you find out which QSOs have either Cnfm
flag set but if you just want to see "a list" (not make any mods) the following
might get you an answer:

 1) Open the log in question (I'll use G3UEG in my scenario)
 2) Hit F8
 3) Set the Cnfm flag to Y
 4) Hit
 5) Go to File -> Import/export -> DX4WIN9 -> File -> Export -> G3UEG_cnfm ->
SAVE -> Yes (use filter) -> OK
 6) Click the Red X (to exit the Import/Export menu)
 7) Hit F8
 8) Set the LoTW Cnfm flag to Y
 9) Hit
10) Go to File -> Import/export -> DX4WIN9 -> File -> Export -> G3UEG_lotw_cnfm
-> SAVE -> Yes (use filter) -> OK
11) Click the Red X (to exit the Import/Export menu)
12) File -> NEW -> G3UEG_Cnfms -> OPEN
13) File -> Import/Export -> DX4WIN9 -> File -> Import -> G3UEG_Cnfm -> OK
14) File -> Import/Export -> DX4WIN9 -> File -> Import -> G3UEG_lotw_Cnfm ->
OPEN -> select "Imported QSO is ignored" -> OK
15) Note that the "xxx Duplicate QSOs were ignored" value is the number of QSOs
with BOTH the cnfm and LoTW Cnfm flags set
16) Click OK
17) Click the Red X (to exit the Import/Export menu)
18) File -> Info (tells how many QSOs had one or both of the Cnfm flags set)

This should show you which QSOs have either Cnfm flag set.

Hope this helps (it is a lot of steps but shouldn't take very long to do)

Lee N7NU

P.S. If you are not on DX4WIN version 9.x, use the highest DX4WINx format

Re: [Dx4win] International Grid Chase

2018-01-11 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi Mike,

Doesn't look like you can (or I don't know how to) select any
additional bands for the VUCC award. Highest (meter) band available
seems to be 6 meters.

I have modified a simple program (originally written to track the FFMA)
that tracks what calls have credit for which Grids. Currently, it only
tracks one call per grid. I am in the process of updating it to keep
track of call, mode, date,#QSOs,LoTW Cnfm and LoTW Date for each band/mode
combination. If anyone is interested in the program, drop me an email
and I'll see about getting you what I have. Currently, it creates a
.CSV file that you can import to Excel and manipulate (sort) by what
ever way you like. I am currently off the air (antennas clobbered from
neighbors tree icing up can falling on them) so I'm not able to do any
LoTW updates myself. If you have a file that has been updated from LoTW
this year and would like to send it to me, that would make testing
easier (I'm dummying up data and that's slow).

If you don't chase VUCC, you can use the VUCC award by adding all of

Re: [Dx4win] Import .adi file error

Think this rings a bell from the past!

Look at the first few records of the .ADI file and see if you see "" (End

If you DON'T see one, add "" (minus the quotes) at the very beginning of
the file and try the import again.

Please let us know what you find.

I'm using v8.0.5 and have routinely imported .adi files from WSJTX (after
adjusting the modes to fit what DX4WIN will accept). Running WIN10 on a Dell
D630 Latitude laptop. I had run the most recent update to DX4WIN.

In this case, I changed FT8 to FAX so the data length is the same.
Bring up my DX4WIN log, import the .adi file and get a new little box on the
screen that says
Reading wsjtx_9-1-17.adi

which is the name of the file I'm trying to import. DX4WIN hangs and when I
click on this new little box I get a Not Responding message added to the
reading message.
Any idea what is going on here?

Re: [Dx4win] Uploading FT8 QSO's to LOTW

2017-08-23 Thread Lee Hallin
Using Kostas' solution, it wouldn't matter which "temporary" mode you
chose (FAX, JT65,etc) because you would be specifying the "length" of
the mode name both places, like:
Find "JT65" and replace it with "JT8"

Lee N7NU
>>> kostas sv1dpi  8/23/2017 12:12 PM >>>
I don't agree. Let's say we choose FAX as alternative mode. And then
you
say "search and replace": fax with ft8. Nice. But if there is a
callsign
with a suffix fax (I know at least sp2fax!). So I believe that the best

option is to make a "search and replace" like the following :

FAX with FT8

Paul,

Are you able to figure out what ADIF version that BV7 is using?
Perhaps it
is an older version that will not accept some data that your middle
program
is putting in the ADIF file.

Also check that the program you use to modify the ADIF file is saving
the
file with the .adi extension. When I use Notepad to modify an ADIF
file,
it will save the file as something like n7cw.adi.txt

Good luck.

Re: [Dx4win] Call sign letters to big

2017-03-06 Thread Lee Hallin
How many of you are wanting this ability?

For those that do, EXACTLY how are you indicating the "long" call in the Notes
field? And which Notes field (QSO or Call Notes)?

I think it should be fairly simple to automate the editing of the ADIF file if
the "long" name in the Notes field is consistent so a program could look for it
and then change the corresponding shortcall to longcall.

Going the other way (ADIF -> DX4WIN to set the LoTW Cnfm flag) would be more of
a challenge but possible.

If you are interested in one or both programs, let me know. If there is enough
interest, I will see what I can come up with.

For those of us who upload to LoTW, however, you're going to have to
edit the ADI file for these and any other incomplete entries (> 12
chars) in order to have a QSO match, otherwise there will likely be no
QSL (I am assuming the logs will not match unless there is a full
callsign match - correct me if I'm wrong, please).

This is what it should look like:

Any line that contains VE100VIMY has to be edited to
VE100VIMY/XXX where XXX has to obviously be the suffix of the
worked station, i.e. VE1, VY0, etc.

Once there's a match in the LoTW, you'll then have to check the LoTW
Cnfm box for the relevant QSO in the log manually. All this goes for any
other callsign longer than 12 characters.

Convoluted, but the only workaround for LoTW and any other electronic
file upload/download, until Paul expands the Callsign entry field beyond
12 characters. With the proliferation of such calls in recent years,
this seems a must.

[Dx4win] What's the highest number of "groups" you have included in ONE filter?

2017-03-04 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi all,

As I understand it, when building a "filter" you can build it based upon
"groups" to include and/or date ranges for QSOs to include.

With the filter by "group", you can select more than one group. If more than
one, what is the most number of groups you have included for a single filter?

I'm just curious to know for a program I'm writing :)

Re: [Dx4win] Export of groups

2017-02-01 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi Joe,

I wrote a program years ago that extracts the information but I wrote it for me
so it isn't "pretty".

If you want to send me your .DXL file, I will run my program against it and
send you back the results.
As I recall, it also knows about your "filters" if that is of interest.

If you don't want to send your entire log, copy it do a different name.DXL.
Then open that file with DX4WIN and delete all but one QSO. Then save it and
send it to me.

If there is enough interest, I will consider Window'izing the program (it only
runs at a command prompt now) and make it available to anyone.

Re: [Dx4win] Latest WAE Custom Award

2016-09-12 Thread Lee Hallin
Inspired by what Joe wrote, I wrote a program that will fill in the Award and
Award Values for QSOs that qualify (as far as I can tell) for the WAE.

The process involves:
 1) Export your DX4WIN log to a DX4WIN8 format .DXQ file
 2) Run my program against that .DXQ file
 3) Import the .DXQ file that my program creates into your log (or another log)

If you are interested in using the program, email me and I will email it to you.

This version only works with DX4WIN8 version (DX4WIN 8.xx) of .DXQ files. If
you have an earlier version of DX4WIN, let me know the version and I'll add it

73,
Lee N7NU

P.S. If there are OTHER awards known to DX4WIN (Ie, in the DX4WIN.AWD file)
that you would like the "auto fill in" feature available for, let me know.

>>> Joe via DX4WIN  9/6/2016 3:22 PM >>>

I have installed the latest updates via "The Updater" and then started to pick
WAE credits from my log.I selected the country Guernsey (GU) and found a QSO
from that country. For that QSO I changed theCustom Award Field to " Worked All
Europe" and the Custom Award Value Field to "Guernsey (GU)".
Then I asked for "Report", "Custom", " Worked All Europe" and then
"Listing".The "Worked All Europe" listing appeared and the GU credits were
correct.
So...it works.
My question: Is there an "easy" way to do the same as above for all the EU
QSO's in my log?
Changing each EU QSO Custom Award Field to " Worked All Europe" and the Custom
Award Value Field to the prefix corresponding to the country for the QSO for me
would not be "easy".
Thanks and 73 de Joe, W6RLL.

Re: [Dx4win] Importing JT65

Hi Dave,

Glad you got it done!

I had thought of ADIF Master but didn't know for sure that it could do what you
wanted :) Good to know it can!

Just FYI, in NotePad if you surround the file name with double quotes, it will
save the file with exactly that name you specify so you'll need to include the
file extension like "filename.adi" and it will NOT add the .txt extension.

>>> "N4QS, Dave Perry"  8/23/2016 7:15 PM >>>

John,

Your suggestion solved the problem. I downloaded and ran ADIF Master.
Opened wsjtx_log.adi and left clicked on the header "Comment". That brought
up a pull down list of header names. I selected Notes and the header was
changed to Notes. I saved the file and then imported it into DX4WIN. The
comment information now went into the Notes for this QSO field instead of
the Notes for this Call field. This is better than having to change 195
QSOs by hand.

Now if we could just solve the JT9 issue. Hi, hi

Thanks to Jim, Lee and John for the assistance.

How do I save the modified file with an adi extention?

Dave, I have been seeking a resolution to this for five years, and no one

It is just another of my great disappointments with DX4Win as a modern
logger. It was great in 2005, but is far behind now-and the author very
obviously has jumped ship.

What I do, in a long winded away of 'fixing' this issue, is to do a
'Edit/Replace/(Find what) Comment/ (Replace with) Notes/Replace All' on
every ADI file I have to import into DX4Win and that does the trick. But it
is NOT state of the art.

Good DXing - stay safe and healthy.

I am trying to import the wsjtx.adi file into DX4WIN. However, the comments
field from WSJT-X (which contains the signal reports in db format) is being
put into the Notes for the Call field in DX4WIN instead of the Notes for the

comments always go into the Notes for the Call field.

Does anyone know how I can change the mapping for the import so that the
Comments from the ADIF file go into the Notes for this QSO field?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Dave, N4QS

BTW, I sure wish DX4WIN supported JT9 as a mode. That is another whole can
of worms to try to work around. It would also be nice if DX4WIN interfaced
with JTAlert so that QSOs made in WSJT-X were automatically entered into
DX4WIN. Activity for weak signal modes is booming these days.

2016-03-31 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi Emily,

You might try opening the ADIF file with another program, say NotePad.

If it opens OK there, then do a "Save AS" to a different name. Then try to
import that file.
I don't know how they produced the file, but if it was on a MAC, the records
may be terminated by ONLY a Line Feed as opposed to a Carriage Return/Line
feed. I have encountered this issue with various files I have received from
others.

If you don't know how to disable your Anti-virus software, you may be able to
reboot your PC in "Safe mode" (if Windows 10 still has it) and try
DX4WIN/import scenario and see if the symptoms change :)

Dear all, I am merging ADIF files from 3 operators into one DX4WIN file. Every
day or every few days, they send me their latest log. I have done this for the
last special event without any trouble (in Windows 8). This time, it has gone
flawless for 3 weeks, but now I am getting the IO Error 103. Just happened that
I upgraded to Windows 10.
Normally, they send me their ADIF files by email. I just download the files to
my desktop, and leave them there. (Not opened). I do a File Import, File
Import, and choose their specific ADIF file from my desktop. This is when I
get Error 103 this time. If I try to import in the current special event log,
or if I open a brand new DX4WIN file, the same hanging persists. However,
from a new DX4WIN file, I am able to import their old files that is still on m
desktop. Two of the ops sent me their files, and neither can be imported. I
assume the same will happen with op 3. This problem just started last night.
What can I try?? My laptop now has windows 10 (installed during the WPX wknd)
All the previous imports were under windows8. Any setting that I should
change or beware of in Windows 10??At this point I assume it is a Windows 10
issue.
Thanks in advance, Emily Thiel, P43E

I thought 254 groups was the limit in DX4WIN? Although having a quick look

Any how what I have been doing, working with the maybe misguided thought
that allocating groups was not limitless I have been re using the same group

Re: [Dx4win] LOTW credit to DX4WIN

2016-03-22 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi all,

I previously wrote a couple programs but they aren't ready for release (I wrote
them for me so they take some hand-holding :).
If there is interest on the reflector I will see what I can do about making
them more "bullet proof" for others to use :)
Currently these programs have no "screen" to fill in and click on. They are
invoked from the command line prompt.

One program takes the DXCC_QSL... file (that you can download from ARRL/LoTW)
and turns it into a spreadsheet that, to me at least, is MUCH more readable.
All the information for a particular QSO is on one line.

The other program reads the export/.DXQ file produced by DX4WIN and creates a
new .DXQ file setting the DXCC/Mixed, DXCC/Band and DXCC/Mode entries based
upon what the DXCC_QSL... file indicates the QSO qualifies for. The program
also sets the LoTW/Cnfm flag for the QSO if no other Cnfm flag is already set.
I also have an option that will just "set" the LoTW/Cnfm flag for ALL QSOs in
the DXCC_QSL... file; regardless of whether any Cnfm flags are previously set.

In addition to writing a new .DXQ file with any changes, the program also
writes a .CSV file that, for fields changed, has the before and after values of
the fields changed; QSO by QSO. This is to make it easy to see what was
changed.

The program also gives a list of any QSOs in the DXCC_QSL... file that were NOT

I'm trying to play with "LoTW Credits to DX4Win Awards Utility" by K8UT.
This utility requires first DXKeeper to download the credits from the
LOTW. I did install the DXKeeper followed the instructions but not
succeed to download the credits from the LOTW. The bar graph shows the
progress but the final result is zero data imported. Does anybody tried
this utility? I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Re: [Dx4win] Group Names and Numbers

2016-02-21 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi all,

I wrote a program years ago that decoded the group numbers/names and
the filter information too from the .DXL file.

At one time I had thoughts of "extracting" the group and filter information
from one .DXL file and creating a new .DXL with the same information. Some
where along the way, it became obvious that it would be more reliable to just
copy the old .DXL to a new name.DXL, remove all the log records and go from
there!

If there is interest, I will clean it up so others can use it (I wrote it for
me at the time).

If you want any specific option, let me know.

What I wrote was basically to get a hard copy of the information. Probably the
most versatile thing to do is create a .CSV and then you could use Excel or
other spreadsheet programs to present the list the way you can use it.

[Dx4win] Any interest in a program that compares two logs?

2015-12-01 Thread Lee Hallin
Do to logging on more than one PC, I found myself with multiple copies of my
log. Some logs had changes in older QSOs while other logs had changes in more
recent QSOs.

I am working (have it working, mostly) on a program that reads .DXQ files for
two logs and presents field values, side-by-side, from matching QSOs
(date, time, call, band and mode are the same). There is also a column with "<>"
in it indicating that the values for that field differ.

The program only displays QSOs with at least one field that differs.

You can also control which fields are displayed when a QSO with differences is
found.

You can also select which fields to check for differences.

Other options, for now, allow you to ignore case, ignore leading and trailing
spaces and/or don't consider a field "different" if the "older log" entry has
spaces where the newer log has a value.

Eventually, I plan to add an "output" option where it will write a .DXQ record
from the "older", "newer" or "both" logs to a file that you can then edit
and/or import to a log file.

If you are interested in trying the program, let me know and I'll get in touch
with you soon.

73,
Lee N7NU

P.S. I can send screen prints if you want to "see" what I [tried to] describe
above!

Re: [Dx4win] DXCC QSL Download - New?

2014-04-27 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi all,

This was posted about 6 months ago.

Is there a utility that will compare the DX4WIN DXCC award status with
the information in the mentioned DXCC QSL file?

Is there any interest in such a utility?

I'm willing to take a stab at it but don't want to expend the time if no
one cares about the feature!

I have already written a program that reads the DXCC QSLs.ADI file and
creates a .CSV file with (I think) the same information but in a easier
to read (at least to me) format. For instance, it has separate columns
for each entry in the APP_LoTW_CREDIT_GRANTED field.
If you are interested, I can send you a partial .CSV file so you can see
if format/layout is useful to you or not.

Without thinking on it too much yet, I'm thinking the program would have
a audit mode where it would tell you about differences between your
log (the .DXQ file created via DX4WIN's Export feature) and the DXCC QSL
file. It would also indicate what it could change in the DX4WIN log
file based upon information in the DXCC QSL file. Once you see what it
could do via the audit, you could then run the program again in
update mode to have it update the log file for real.

Hello

I´ve just noticed today that there is a new menu option on the LOTW
account status page

It reads DXCC QSL Download

Also at the bottom of the righ hand box there is a new bullet:

* For an ADIF download with the details of all QSLs in your DXCC
record use DXCC QSL DOWNLOAD

The link leads to the same Menu Option that is actually a ADIF
download.Has anyone investigated this yet?
Is there a tool to compare and selectively fix eventual mismatches?
I have been searching for a tool that helps me determine exactly which
QSO was credited for each band / mode DXCC credit.

Maybe this is the way.

Thank you
Marcelo,

Re: [Dx4win] Importing QSL requests into DX4WIN from ClubLog

2013-11-16 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi Jim, John and others,

I am actually working on this for Joe (OZ0J / 5Q2T) -- see his post from Sep
24th at the end of this email.

I haven't done ClubLog yet so if anyone else has variations of what they would
like done by a utility I'm writing, please speak up now :-)

Also, mention what version of DX4WIN you are using.

My plan A is to write something that would create a .DXL file but I don't yet
know if that is possible.
My Plan B would be to have you do an export, run my program against the
export and then re-import the new results to DX4WIN.

Plan A is more handy for the user (ONE step) but Plan B is more versatile and
perhaps easier to adapt to future versions of DX4WIN.

I hope to have something to test by the end of next weekend (Nov 24th).

Subject: [Club Log] Importing QSL requests into DX4WIN
To: Club Log club...@googlegroups.com

Hi gang

I am using OQRS for my overseas trips and have download several ADIF
files containing details of bureau and direct requests.

My main logging programme, from which I manage QSL printing is DX4WIN.

Has anyone found a way of importing the Clublog produced ADIF file
into DX4WIN and setting the QSL label and method flag, ready for
printing?

I suspect it isn't possible! Anyone else use a similar set-up? Do I
need to check the DX4WIN entries manually?

How do others update their logs from the QSL request ADIF files
produced by Clublog?

Thanks

John G4IRN.

Hi

I am QSL manager for some calls and I would like to import the OQRS ADIF
file from www.clublog.org info DX4WIN.

The QSO's are already in DX4WIN, but I would like to update the QSL status
meaning that the stations who want a buro QSL card will get one after I have
updated the stat us from the OQRS Clublog file.

An example of the clublog ADIF file can be seen at
https://dl.dropboxu sercontent.com/u/2651703/5Q2T-clublog-qslrequests-2013-09
( https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2651703/5Q2T-clublog-qslrequests-2013-09)
-23.adi

I get an e-mail with whose stations that want a QSL card. The e-mail can be
seen at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2651703/clublog-qsl-e-mail.pdf

I stead of going through all the e-mails manually, I would like to import
the ADIF file so DX4WIN update these data:

Label change from N to Y (only for those that have not been sent already)
Method change from Buro to Direct if it is a direct QSL card.

I have tried to import the ADI F file via File - Import/Export and set the
imported QSOs to replace. That was not the solution I was looking for.

Do anyone have a solution ? Or is it manually work?

Re: [Dx4win] Importing

2012-10-05 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi Tom,

I wrote a program to convert .CSV to ADIF. I never finished it (it did what
I needed but might not work for all cases) so it isn't really ready for release
yet. If you want to send me the .DXL or the .CSV file, I will run it thru my
program and see what happens. If it has problems, I will fix it and send you
the ADIF file back. Then you (after BACKING UP YOUR CURRENT .DXL FILE) just
import the ADIF file as usual.

Lee N7NU

P.S. If others are interested, let me know. If I get enough interest, I will
finish the program and make it available. Right now it only handles the ADIF
fields I have encountered (about 40 fields). My plan is to make it aware of
all fields mentioned in the latest 2.2.7 ADIF specs (see adif.org).

[Dx4win] What reporting would be useful for Custom Awards?

2011-09-14 Thread Lee Hallin
I recently wrote a program that fulfilled the needs of one person as relating
to the Fred Fish Memorial Award. He said it saved him ours of work. The
program scanned his log looking for QSOs that qualified for the FFMA. It then
output a .CSV file that he imported into Excel (I think) and made a form with
all the information that the entry for required.

Rather than have a program specific for ONE award, Jim AD1C and I thought it
might be better and more usable if the program knew about other awards and
would produce (probably) .CSV files with information that could be read into
Excel, Access, etc and pretty'd up (if needed) prior to printing.

Do any of you have a wish list of reports, exports, etc that you WISHED you
had to make tracking and/or submitting an entry for a Custom award? By Custom
award, I mean those where you specify a in the Custom award field in DX4WIN;
this does NOT mean any of the built in awards that DX4WIN does such a good job
of tracking already.

In the program I wrote, I found the QSOs independent of what the Custom award
was set to. In other words, I found the QSOs based upon the award criteria and
not the Custom award name value. Another feature I thought of adding was to
(optionally) produce a .DXQ file with the Award information filled in for those
QSOs that qualify. Then all you have to do is import the .DXQ file and your
log will then have the award information filled in for viewing from within
DX4WIN.

Please let me know if you have comments or suggestions.

[Dx4win] Fred Fish Memorial Award

2011-09-10 Thread Lee Hallin
I recently wrote a program that scans a DX4WIN file (.DXQ) and finds QSOs that
qualify for the Fred Fish Memorial Award (FFMA). It finds the QSOs based upon
Band (6m), Grid Square being filled in and Cnfm flag set. The Award field does
NOT have to be filled in for a QSO to be selected. The program creates a .CSV
file similar to the official form for FFMA. I could add an option where it
would create a .DXQ file that could then be imported to DX4WIN to update your
log's Award field.
This program is not ready for prime-time (requires some hand-holding by me).
If there is sufficient interest, I will see about making the program more
presentable and available.

In the mean time, if you would like to see what it produces, send me your log
(.DXL or .DXQ) and I will send you an attachment with the .CSV file. You can
then give me feed back on anything (reasonable :-) that you would like added.
Turn around would likely be the same day; it's a pretty simple process.

Currently, the Cnfm flag MUST be set to consider the QSO. This was what the
requestor wanted. I could change the program to consider the eQSLCnfm and/or
LoTWCnfm flags as well.

Let me know if you are interested.

[Dx4win] Custom Awards - 100's missing?

[Dx4win] Where (what field) do you specify the city name for U.S. QSOs?

2011-06-23 Thread Lee Hallin
Do you put the city name in the QTH field (Ex. Los Angeles) .. while also
populating the STATE field with the state abbreviation?

Do you put the city name in the QTH field along with the state (Ex. Los
Angeles,CA)?

If you aren't using DX4WIN v8.??, what field, and what form/convention, do you
put the city name in?

I'm taking a stab at County Hunting and don't want to have to go through my log
and look up each county, by hand, using the city name and state in the QSO.

I'm thinking of writing a program that would look at an ADIF file and update
the CNTY field. For this reason, I was wanting to know of any conventions that
might already be in use.

Does anyone else have interest in using such a program, if I write it?

Re: [Dx4win] Duplicate QSO's - Import Crashes

2011-05-08 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi Art,

I haven't tried your exact scenario but you might check the following:

1) Backup your log to a different name!

2) Go to Preferences - QSO - then check Show seconds in time
I don't know if this only effects the visual display or if it alters what
portion of the
time gets used during date/time comparisons.

3) Go to Preferences - Import.
Click the down arrow and select Show QSO information and ask
This may or may not address your concern; depending on whether it logs
questionable QSOs
as separate QSOs or overwrites previous QSO with the current one.
73, Lee N7NU
 Art - W6KY w...@yahoo.com 5/8/2011 12:22 AM

There are times when there will be duplicate QSO's while
importing, such as a state QSO party when a station is
sitting on a county line. That station is entered twice to
pick up each county mult. But when importing to DX4WIN,
the import crashes due to 'duplicate QSOs', which they are
not.

Question: Why does DX4WIN stop an import due to a
dupe? There should just be a question at that time.
   Continue with Import?
This causes so much trouble as the 'dupes' have to
be taken out of the ADIF file and then re-entered into
DX4WIN manually. And they aren't even dupes...

Needs a change or am I missing a checkbox somewhere?

Re: [Dx4win] Win-eqf

2011-01-18 Thread Lee Hallin
Assuming that Win-eqf is able to export an ADIF file, here is what I would
suggest:

 1) In Win-eqf, EXPORT your log to file in ADIF format and remember what
directory you create it in
 2) Start DX4WIN
 3) If you plan on importing to an EXISTING DX4WIN log, first make a backup
copy..just incase :-)
 4) Click File
 5) If you want to import to an existing DX4WIN log, Click OPEN and then
navigate to the log you want to import to
 6) If you want to start a NEW log, click NEW, then select a log file name (and
location if the default (SAVE) is not correct)
 7) Click File, then Import/Export .. this will open up a Import/Export
Filters window
 8) ADIF is the default import format so click File, then Import
 9) Navigate to the ADIF file that you created in Win-eqf
10) Click OPEN
11) It should give you a summary window indicating counts of how many QSOs were
read, etc.
12) If things look good, Click File, then Save

If you need more detail in any of the above, send just me (not the list) an
email and I'll get you going :-)

Hi Loren,

I don't know about altering the direction (ascending/descending) of the sort
but some keyboard shortcuts I use:

In the QSO window:
CTRL+HOME takes you to the FIRST qso
CTRL+END takes you to the last
PgUp takes you to previous QSO
PgDn takes you to the next QSO

In the LogBook window:
CTRL+HOME takes you to the FIRST qso
CTRL+END takes you to the last
PgUp takes you to the previous page (1st QSO on present page will be last QSO
on previous page)
PgDn takes you to the next page (last QSO on the current page will be the 1st
QSO on the next page)
UP/DOWN arrows move one QSO at a time

For more information, from the QSO window:
hit F1
type 'key' (short for keyboard)
to the right should be a small window with QSO Window
to the right of QSO window are a left and a right arrow. Hit the right arrow

You can page through these windows to possibly discover things you don't know
:-)

When looking at -

Is there a way to reverse the field so the latest QSOs are at the top?
I figure it has to be here someplace, I just can't find it. So I log a QSO and
it goes instantly to the bottom of the log, then the guy comes back one more

Re: [Dx4win] Problem with Filter selection

2010-12-03 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi Bob,

I think it has to do with your User Level. Go to File - Preferences and
look at the User Level. It is likely Regular. Try Advanced or Expert. I
think once you save the change, you need to exit DX4WIN and get back in for the
change to take effect.

Hi guys

I have needed to install DX4WIN on a different computer to the one I mostly
use. The installation was successful but I find Files, Selection Files,
Edit Group Names to be both greyed out. No doubt there is some kind of
switch to enable these functions but despite a search I have failed to find
it. The facility worked fine on my other computer. Reading the electronic
manual hasn't so far led to a solution. As I have used multiple calls in
one compound log, I need to filter on group names to make sense of cluster
input.

I would really appreciate some help in getting to the bottom of this.

Many thanks.

Re: [Dx4win] Cannot open log

2010-10-08 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi Patrick,

  1) Have you tried opening a different log file? (This to determine whether
the problem is related to the log or the Country file)

  2) If the different log showed the same problem, my guess would be the
DX4WIN.CTY file got corrupted some how.
To verify, in the DX4WIN SAVE directory, try:
  a) Copy DX4WIN.CTY to a new name (maybe DX4WIN.SAV)
  b) Copy DX4WIN.~TY DX4WIN.CTY
  c) Try accessing your original log again to see if the problem exists.

Please let me or us know what happens.

Hello,

My DX4WIN v 8.4 was working properly until I tried to add a country. I followed
the directions in the help file but not it will not open without errors. When
trying to open DX4WIN from bootup I receive the following errors:

1. TAward System. Add entry (c;dx4win_src\awdmgt.pas, line 558

2. Access violation at address 00625988 in module 'dx4win.exe. Read of
address

3. A tatal error occured reading the logfile.

How can I repair the errors and return the program to its working operation
state? What did I do to cause this problem?

Thank you for the help,

Patrick, W4PV

Re: [Dx4win] adi import

2010-07-18 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi Bob,

  Too little information :-)

 1) Do you get an error? If so, what is it?

 2) What version of DX4WIN are you running?

 3) What procedure/process are you using to do the import?

I'm sure someone can help if you give us more information; starting with the
above 3 questions :-)

Re: [Dx4win] need help

2010-05-15 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi Eddie,

There are lots of us out here that can probably help but ya need to give us a
little more information :-)

 1) Have you received (downloaded) a version of DX4WIN?

 2) If so, have you installed it on your computer(s)?

 3) What version of DX4WIN are you attempting to use?

 4) Have you paid for the version you have and received (usually via email) a
licence key file?
For DX4WIN ver 8, it would be something like: W2DE_lic.dx4w8
Without this file, you can NOT save your log!

 5) Have you put that file in the main DX4WIN directory (NOT the save
directory) so it will be used by DX4WIN?
 6) What program, if any, have you been logging with most recently?

Let us know the answers and we can probably get you going :-)

Re: [Dx4win] Questions on Listing/Using Groups and Operators

2010-03-05 Thread Lee Hallin
What version of DX4WIN are you using? I have a program that dumps most of the
header info (for versions 8.01) in the .DXL file. It isn't fancy but it will
give you (and others if they want it) the information. I can tweek it for 8.x
(which I've been planning to do anyway).

 Eric Rosenberg ericrosenberg...@gmail.com 3/5/2010 12:24 PM

Two unanswered questions -- maybe Paul or Jim can help.

1. I use the GROUP feature to assign QSOs to a specific contest.when I
import a new file into DX4W. I have many thousands of QSOs and over 50
Group names.
I'd like to print a list of all of those group names, as I've found that
I've missed a couple of contests and would like to assign them to new
groups that will be in sequential (date) order. Is there an easy (or
relatively easy) way to retrieve that GROUPS list?

2. We've been doing multi-ops here at W3DQ (and last year @ W3A). The
logs have the OPERATOR field defined in the ADIF file. How can I import
that filed into the and then onto the QSL card?

Thanks,

[Dx4win] If you need help converting your Freq, Name and/or QTH data, I may be able to help

2009-08-13 Thread Lee Hallin
If the way you have kept track of frequency, Name and/or QTH does not lend
itself to the automatic conversion by DX4WIN 8.01 or the QSXFIX program of
Jim's (AD1C), I may be able to help. If you were fairly consistent in how you
kept track of the information (Freq,Name and QTH), I can write/modify a
program to convert your entries. This is just something I enjoy doing but it
is done in my spare time.

If you are interested, please contact me off line.

Just to be clear, there would be NO CHARGE for anything I would do :-)

Re: [Dx4win] Save mycall.dxl

2009-08-07 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi,

When you invoke 8.01 on the destination PC, verify in the title bar that it
says DX4WIN 8.01 (just incase you have multiple versions of DX4WIN on your
desktop; and you clicked on the wrong one :-).

To find the path to the log that is being opened by default, I do a File -
Save as, then click the down arrow in the Look in: box at the top. Note the
file path and then QUICKLY hit CANCEL twice to exit out of the Save as menu!

If you ARE in 8.01, then click File - Open; then click the down arrow in the
Look in: box. Note the complete path it is pointing to and verify that it is
where your new (8.01) log is located.

Re: [Dx4win] Wish list, again -- LOTW Import

2009-04-02 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi all,

I realize that Randy was wanting the fix in the next DX4WIN version; but...

Does anyone else dislike the LOTW: phrase as much as Randy? Let me know
direct (save band-width). If enough people would like it removed, I can write
a program that would remove all, or the non-conflicting fields, fields from the
log (either a ADIF or .DXQ file).

If I write a program, are there any other clean up options that anyone
might want?
For instance, if I find a Error:Mode=OLIVIA msg in the QSO Notes, should
I change the MODE to OLIVIA and remove the msg from the notes?

Re: [Dx4win] 7.05.03 not printing group names on labels?

2008-09-22 Thread Lee Hallin
Just FYI: When entering a Group number for a QSO, it must be in the range
0-253 (you
get a message so indicating).
However, in the Editing group names screen, it doesn't seem to check the
range so
you can CREATE group names that you will NOT be able to associate with a QSO(s)!

Re: [Dx4win] Comparing Log Files

2008-08-26 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi Bill,

  Sorry for your pain :-)

Let's call your two logs old and new.

 1) Open up the OLD log.
 2) Click Window - Logbook
 3) Right-click and click Select Report'
 4) Click the Down-arrow under Report format and select All Fields
 5) Sort index defaults to Date. If you change it, make SURE you change it the
same way when you do this process for your new log.
 6) Click OK
 7) Right-click and select Write to file.
 8) Select a directory where you want the old.csv file created.
 9) Fill in old.csv as the file name.
10) Click SAVE.

11) Open up the NEW log
12) Repeat steps 2 - 10 but change any references from old to new

13) At this point you have two flat files (no special formatting) that, in
theory, can be compared. There are various programs out there that will
compare two flat files and show differences. One that comes with Windows is
called fc (File Compare).
14) To use fc, try fc old.csv new.csv diffs. This creates a file (diffs)
with the differences which you can view with a editor (Notepad, WordPad, etc)
and, hopefully, be able to tell which records/QSOs have differences. If diffs
says something about files are too different then the diffs file will likely
not do you much good :-( In this case let me know.

Let me know if this gives you what you want.

If not, let me know. I have other programs I have written that i could run
your logs thru and give you back the results.

What version of DX4WIN are you running?

Good luck,
Lee N7NU

P.S. Hope that helps. If I didn't make any part clear, please let me know and
I'll try harder :-)

[Dx4win] Logs wanted for testing a .DXL, .CSV and/or .ADI conversion utility

2008-07-30 Thread Lee Hallin
I am writing a utility that reads, re-arranges, drops, adds and converts fields
in files of these extensions. It will read any version of .DXL file and .CSV
and .ADI. I have a few logs to test against it but would like more. In
particular I'd like some .CSV and/or .ADI files produced by programs other than
DX4WIN; but DX4WIN produced .DXL files are good too :-)

I PROMISE that all logs/files received will NOT leave my PC (won't be
accessible by anyone but me) and will be deleted once the program is released!

Re: [Dx4win] Problem with 7.04 Import

2008-07-30 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi Bob,

  As a guess, I'd say your DX4WIN.IEP (Import/ExPort) file got corrupted. I
don't know if the format of it is compatible with 7.02 or not.

If you have no other suggestions:
  1) Exit DX4WIN
  2) Make a copy of your DX4WIN.IEP file (located in the SAVE directory) to
another name.
  3) Copy the DX4WIN.IEP file from your DX4WIN 7.02 /SAVE directory to your
DX4WIN 7.04 /SAVE directory
  4) Try 7.04 DX4WIN again.
  5) If this doesn't fix it or makes things worse
 a) Exit DX4WIN
 b) Copy the file created in step #2 above back to the 7.04 SAVE directory.

Please let me or us know whether this works or not.

[Dx4win] Programatically inserting County into DX4WIN files

2006-11-21 Thread Lee Hallin
Hi all,

I'm new to the list so sorry if this has been asked before.

I am in the process of writing a program that looks up a state, city
combination and determines the county name. Then I want to update the DX4WIN
.DXL file (directly or indirectly) with the county. I want to make sure I do
it in a way that will allow DX4WIN tonotice that I added the County and alter
any tables, counters etc that it may maintain.

Ideas I had to accomplish this task:

  1) Do an Export to a .DXQ/.DXN file. Modify the County field in the .DXQ
file and then re-Import the modified file.
  2) Export in .ADIF format. Fix the values and then re-import.
  3) Modify the .DXL file directly. If this is done, will County totals/counts
get updated?

If anyone is interested in what I come up with, let me know and I'll email you
once I have something working.

73,
Lee N7NU
