Bob, have you looked in the Save folder of your DX4WIN program directory (where DX4WIN.exe is found) to see if DX4WIN.tcp is there, together with your .dxl log files? When you move to Windows 7, you will need to reinstall DX4WIN anyway. Be sure you install it somewhere other than Program Files or Program Files (X86), because its data files are all stored in the program directory. 73, Pete N4ZR Check out the Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com. Re: [Dx4win] SO2R Question
Tod, you're right - I misspoke. The PIEXX unit takes OTRSP serial port commands via a USB vritual port and converts them to the appropriate LPT commands, rather than actually functioning as a USB to LPT converter. You might want to talk to W4NZ about this - he beta tested the PIEXX unit with a DXD, and knows how to make the DXD do lots of tricks. 73, Pete N4ZR Check out the Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com. Re: [Dx4win] SO2R Question
Randy's right about the USB-to-LPT converters. Fortunately, real LPT portcards are still available for the PCI-E slot in newer PCs, and are dirt cheap. While you're at it, you could get one with an LPT and 2 COM ports, simplify your cabling, and avoid the cost of the USB-to-serial converters you'd otherwise need. Hopefully, the next generation of radios will include a $2 USB transceiver chip. 73, Pete N4ZR Check out the Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com. I like the toggle feature that allows me to shift back and forth between the two radios. I am thinking about purchasing the DXDoubler SO2R product from Top Ten Devices as well as their new band decoder. I would like to use one band decoder with both rigs since I have one feed line running out to a remote antenna switch. Here are my questions: 1. If I select Top Ten as the band decoder within the Control tab under preferences and use LPT1 to connect the pc to the band decoder, will DX4WIN send BCD data for both radios to the band decoder - depending on which one I have toggled as the active radio (using Ctrl, Shift, F12)? For example, if radio 1 is on 20M and radio 2 is on 40M will DX4WIN send the required BCD data depending on which one is toggled in DX4WIN? The documentation indicated that BCD data would be sent for radio 1 but did not appear to mention if this would also happen if a second radio was also connected like I have it now. I would hope that BCD data is sent anytime I toggle between the two radios. 2. My second question is about the DXDoubler and how it works with DX4WIN. Dave at Top Ten said that DX4WIN reverses the selected radio. I assume that what he means is that if I select Radio 1 in DX4WIN the DXDoubler device will select Radio 2. Is this a know issue with DX4WIN and could this be fixed in a future update? That is why I am checking. Here is a quote from the Top Ten Devices website: DX4WIN, like many other logging programs (eg. CT, NA, TR, WriteLog), toggles Pin 14 on the selected LPT port when the operator changes radios. The defacto standard is that Pin 14 is high when Radio 1 is selected. However, DX4WIN drives Pin 14 high when Radio 2 is selected. Although there are ways to reverse cables and the like, so that switching works properly, the LEDs on the DXD will always be reversed. The purpose of this modification is to rearrange the internal logic in the DXD, so that everything functions properly, and the LEDs truly reflect the selected radio. I will also be using the DXD with N1MM, so I would want both logging programs to handle the radios the same way. I would not want to make the suggested Mod to the DXD to make it work with DX4WIN if it would then make N1MM operate in reverse. I wonder if Paul has a reason for not following the de facto standard? I would certainly want the LEDs to indicate the correct radio when using either program. Does anyone on the reflector use either of these products with DX4WIN? Any tips or suggestions would be welcome. I have been following this thread with a mixture of nostalgia, sympathy, and annoyance. Getting the annoyance out of the way first, I've been appalled by the tone of some of the comments. Anyone who thinks Paul has gotten rich off this thing in its 20 years of existenceis deluding himself. When I wrote ham radio software, back in the 1980's, getting paid for it was something I regarded as a way of keeping score - that effort took thousands of hours, reducing my compensation to about 5 cents an hour. I was the first paying customer for DX4WIN, version 0.94, and am still up to date. I recognize that it is increasingly in need of updating, and there are somethings it won't do that I now need, but it is still a clean and simple to use program. I have tried three times to migrate to DXlab, thinking it would give me more of what I need, and each time I have given up, defeated by its complexity. I am currently working to get comfortablewith Logger32, which does most of the things on my wish-list. You can certainly do this at an ARC6 or VE7CC cluster node, Barry. I'm a little defensive about calling his software an aggregator though, lest it be confused with the RBN's Aggregator. Re: [Dx4win] LoTW problem v 1.14.1
I successfully uploaded a 2099-QSO file to LOTW yesterday using 1.14.1, so I know it works. After you answered yes to theIs that correct? prompt, you should have seen a progress message reporting the QSO-by-QSO signing and uploading of the ADIF file. The big difference from previous versions of TQSL is that signing and uploading can be combined into one background operation, so it appears that something in your computer setup is preventing the signing step from happening. You do not need to send an e-mail to upload the signed file any more, though you still can if you wish. 73, Pete N4ZR Check out the Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com. Re: [Dx4win] LoTW eQSL utility
I very much doubt there will be a problem. Rick, N2AMG is a very good programmer, who is responsible for the digital side of N1MM Logger. He works in Visual Basic, which requires a run-time component. Such components typically are carefully designed to be backward compatible, so that installing a later version will proceed without a hitch. Re: [Dx4win] PCIe LPT port problem
I think their tech guy may have been blowing smoke, Paul(s) - I have a StarTech PEX1P PCIe Parallel Adapter Card - 1 Port, SPP, EPP, ECP (S262-8032) that I just got from Tigerdirect for a new Win7 PC. While I haven't tried to use it with the antenna switching control side of DX4WIN, it works fine doing the same job for N1MM Logger, which also needs to know the port address. If your new machine is a 64-bit Win 7 machine, as even nearly the cheapest Dells may be now, then you may need a different port driver. In any case, it should be installed in the same folder as your DX4WIN executable, so that definitely is one place to look for a solution. Otherwise, I need to defer to Paul on the driver issue and how it is integrated with DX4WIN. 73, Pete N4ZR The World Contest Station Database, updated daily at www.conteststations.com The Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com, spots at telnet.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 and arcluster.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 On 5/16/2012 9:02 AM, Paul van der Eijk wrote: Forwarding message for VE7BZ --Paul, KK4HD The day finally came when the old XP machine that has powered DX4WIN for so many years died -- and it was replaced with a Win7 box. I thought I could simply install a PCI (Express) LPT port card and get going once again, but such is not the case due to the manner in which Win7 or the card -- I'm not sure exactly which handles the port addressing. The card in question is a StarTech model called PEX1P and according to their tech support person it's not mappable -- so they could not tell me the real port address. When I look at the card in Device Manager the Resource tab tells me the I/O Range is D010 - D017 and D000 - D003. Again according to StarTech, the only card they can give a real address for is a mappable model such as their PCIPM card -- but it's not available in PCI (Express) -- only straight PCI. [Dx4win] Small bug in Winkey settings dialog
Unless I'm doing something wrong, there seems to be a bug in the Winkey settings dialog. If you change parameters and OK out of the dialog, the program gives an error message indicating that it could not open the Winkey serial port. I infer from this that it is trying to send the changed settings to the Winkeyer, but the main program already has control of the port (when the Winkey keyboard window is open, at least). Since the only way the Winkey parameters can be accessed (that I have discovered) is via right click in the Keyboard window, this creates a bit of a conundrum. Fortunately, the parameters are saved, so the next time the program is started, they are loaded properly. -- 73, Pete N4ZR The World Contest Station Database, updated daily at www.conteststations.com The Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com, spots at telnet.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 and arcluster.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

I just did it a couple of weeks ago, and here is how I did it: 1. Go to Reports, Awards, and uncheck Lotw under the Confirmation box in the upper left. This ensures that you will only be submitting confirmations which have been confirmed via a card. 2. Click on Reports, Award flags and then select DXCC Mixed in the upper box and Clear Submitted in the Action box and then click on the Change button. Next select DXCC band in the upper box, Clear Submitted and Change. Finally, select DXCC mode in the upper box, Clear Submitted and Change. This clears out all QSOs that you might have already marked for Submission. This step is a precaution to ensure that you did not run Submission before with the LOTW button selected as outlined in Step 1. 3. Click on Reports and under Report / Action, select Submission. This will mark all cards eligible for DXCC credit for Submission and create a report that you can view. You should right click and print the report. It would be great if Paul would allow the user to right click on this report and create an ADIF file for submission to the ARRL. Unfortunately, you cannot create the ADIF file at this point. So save the report that you just printed out and move on to Step 4. 4. Go back to the main QSO entry screen and press F5 several times until the Award boxes appear at the bottom of the window. Then hit F8 and click on the Mixed box under DXCC and select S (for submission). Then click on File in the upper left on DX4WIN and select Import/Export. Select ADIF and then File again in the smaller window and Export. It should prompt you with a warning that you are running a Filter, say yes that you want to export using the filter. Name the file something like yourcall mixed. You have just created an ADIF file for all QSOs eligible for DXCC Mixed credit. You have to repeat this process two more times -- after doing a F8 fileter for DXCC Band and then a filter for DXCC Mode. You should end up with three ADIF files named yourcall mixed, yourcall band and yourcall mode. Remember where you saved these ADIF files. 5. Finally, go to the ARRL website and log into the online DXCC submission page. I can't remember the exact navigation within the submission pages, but in essence you are simply going to import the three ADIF files one at a time. The DXCC online form allows you to import multiple ADIF files into the form. Very easy. When you get done, you should click on the View Submission button and compare all the listed QSOs in this report to the DX4WIN Submission report that you printed out in Step 3. When I did this, my online report matched the DXCC Submission report exactly. I then merely had to sort my cards to appear in the order as presented in the online submission form and then complete the submission. I took all of my cards to my local DXCC card checker. This process is a bit complicated and requires some advanced knowledge of DX4WIN. Paul could make this whole process a snap by allowing users to create an ADIF file directly from the Submission report once it is generated. I hope this helps. Good luck. I've just been trying to store some of the filtering commands for AR Cluster V6 in DX4WIN, and have discovered a problem - ARC6 uses a new Boolean-like syntax, which can result in lengthy filtering commands like SET DX FILTER call=n4zr OR (SKIMMER AND UNIQUE2) and (spotterstate=md OR spotterstate=pa OR spotterstate=va OR spotterstate=WV). The space available for any one key definition is far too short to handle such expressions. [Dx4win] Pre-emptive QSLing
I am getting back to DX4WIN after a couple of years away, and just updated to 8.05. In previous versions, there was a way to mark for QSL only those *DX* stations to which I had not previously sent a QSL for the same band/mode combination. I tried QSLsMark QSL Band/Mode, but it marked all QSOs, including W stations. Is there a way to do what I used to be able to do in one step? [Dx4win] Band decoder flexibility
Is there any prospect that in future the table of band decoder outputs might be made user-cpnfigurable? I am using a home-brew driver unit to take the LPT port BCD signals and source enough power to run an RCS-10 antenna switch. The trouble is that this system needs to have the LPT port output the same BCD code for 20, 15, and 10 so that I can run my tribander on one switch position - there is no option of using a wired OR connection as there is with a hardware band decoder. [Dx4win] Custom band decoder output
I have a simple interface between my computer and my Ameritron RCS-10 antenna switch, which applies the BCD output from the LPT port through a driver IC directly to the BCD lines going out to the remote relay box. Simple and cheap, compared to a band decoder, but what it means is that I must be able to configure the band output of the logging programs I use to send the same BCD code for 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10, so that the antenna switch will select my tribander when any of those bands is active. N1MM Logger has a very configurable band data output scheme, which supports this requirement plus additional antenna choices for 40 and 80 with their own unique BCD codes. DXLab has a totally configurable scheme, but it's a little daunting, compared to N1MM's simple, English-language configuration dialog. I wonder if there is any prospect that DX4WIN might add such a feature (like N1MM's, that is) in an upcoming release. -- 73, Pete N4ZR The World Contest Station Database, updated daily at www.conteststations.com The Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com, spots at telnet.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

I could reset the upload flags and upload the whole log but would that help? No. Your LoTW QSO record count will double and your problem will remain. There is obviously a discrepancy somewhere... My uneducated guess is that when you also added some very old QSOs to LoTW they were already there - part of an earlier upload that you forgot about? You now have 10 duplicate records. Or {as I have done} when I discover an error with an already-uploaded QSO in DX4Win, I correct the error and re-upload the QSO. In that case, the old wrong QSO is still there along with the new corrected QSO. [Aha... another intentional design feature of LoTW: uploaded records cannot be edited.] You have a QSO-count discrepancy that will not go away, and your best approach is to be diligent in tracking future uploads so that you don't increase the gap. Some users upload their entire log EVERY TIME they upload {imagine their discrepancy!} which is why you may get more than one notification of a QSO match. You get notified (a downloaded QSO ADIF record)every time that person re-uploads a QSO that matches with yours. There are lots of good architectural reasons why LoTW prohibits record deletions, so rather than argue with ARRL's design team it's best to just understand how LoTW works and get over it. ;-) The reality is that LoTW is not really a logbook, but more closely resembles eHarmony.com for QSOs. Then click on Labels|Set Print Flag rather than Mark for QSL. The program will ask you Set label field in QSOs matching filter? Click yes, and it will mark only the JT QSOs. I don't know about the limit - I just did a simulated print run with my entire log - over 100,000 QSOs - and the program said it was ready to print every one. There could be such a limit in the printing, not just in the previewing, but it isn't visible. It is also too much work to go through hundreds of pounds of QSL cards and mark them one by one as received. [Dx4win] Not getting state info when importing from N1MM ARRL160
Compare the tags in the ADIF file exported by MM in the 160 test with those used in the SS export - it may be that one of the contests has been updated to reflect ADIF changes and the other not. Typically, you can fix the ADIF with a word processor once you know what tags need changing. 73, Pete N4ZR At 05:37 PM 12/3/2006, Mark wrote: When I import the adi file created by N1MM for the ARRL160 contest, it does not populate the state information in DX4WIN. Tony, I think he's looking for the web site URLs. I found this on the Writelog reflector: I prefer monospace fonts for log entries and the toolboxes in WL but they take up more room than kerned fonts. [Dx4win] Exporting N1MM Logger ADIF to DX4WIN
I thought MM users, in particular, might find this interesting. MM exports a contest name with every QSO, so it is pretty simple to use a word processor to rename that ADIF field from CONTEST_ID to COMMENT, so that the notes for QSO field would show it as a contest Q. I like to know the names of people I've worked, so I chose to put the NAME field in notes for call by renaming that ADIF field to NOTES. That gets me all the names from NAQP and Sprint, including some of the variations people use from time to time (N4AF, whose real name is Howie, may get a chuckle out of this, since the database now shows him as Al and Bill). The only thing I wish for is the ability to name more than one ADIF field as NOTES, so that I could import both the name and the person's state or section into the notes for call field. 73, Pete N4ZR The World HF Contest Station Database was updated 16 March 2005 2925 contest stations at www.pvrc.org/WCSD/WCSDsearch.htm

[Dx4win] ADIF import quandary
I'm trying to import my N1MM log into DX4WIN 6.03, and am having problems understanding how DX4WIN decides which ADIF fields to import and where to put them. For example, when I import an unmodified ADIF log, the import goes fine, but for every contest QSO the frequency to several decimal places (FREQ, in ADIF) plus the transmitted serial number (STX, in ADIF) are both put into the Notes for QSO field. What I would like to import into this field, in most cases, is the name of the contest (CONTEST_ID). I couldn't care less about the frequency or the STX (which in many cases, at least with MM, is not an actual contest exchange serial number, but a mythical creature, in contests that don't require one). I tried using a word processor to replace CONTEST_ID with STX, and that worked, so far as importing the contest name, but it wound up labeled with SerNr= in every QSO record. I have rummaged through the import file editor, as well as the help, and have not been able to find anywhere that explains which ADIF tag is mapped to which location in DX4WIN's record structure, or the extent to which the mapping can be changed. Can anyone enlighten me? 73, Pete N4ZR The World HF Contest Station Database was updated 12 January 2005 2868 contest stations at www.pvrc.org/WCSD/WCSDsearch.htm
[Dx4win] Differing ADIF formats
I wonder if it follows, then, that DX4WIN simply doesn't see certain standard fields; conversely, I wonder if DX4WIN's import filters can accept more than one input into, for example, the notes for QSO field. To be able to change any fields do it as stated here: (PS: Got it from another user, and it works...) I hope it helps you. --- Hi Carlos, I do not believe any of these are related to the trial version, they all sound normal. For op names and QTHs, you need to look in the ADIF file from DX4WIN to see what field names it uses for them. MixW uses NAME (e.g. NAME:6Carlos) and QTH (e.g. QTH:7Drammen), so that is how it expects the information to be imported. To the best of my knowledge MixW does not have fields for street addresses. If DX4WIN has exported the name and QTH fields using different field names, you can use a text editor to do a global replace in the ADIF file. 73, Rich VE3IAY 73, de Carlos - LA9PJA - Original Message - From: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]Pete Smith To: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.netDX4WIN@mailman.qth.net Sent: Friday, March 11, 2005 3:45 PM Subject: [Dx4win] Differing ADIF formats In connection with another program, I have done some superficial research into ADIF. I'm also aware that over the last few days, there have been frequent power outages in the area where Steve lives. There was also a fussy detail called the Dayton Hamvention, which had the full-time attention of both Paul and Steve. Try being a little flexible. Paul has done a lot of work to make the licensing and upgrade aspects of DX4Win as simple and trouble-free as possible. Add to that the hundreds of volunteer hours that AD1C has put into refining the country file, and I don't think there's much excuse for people who have horrible difficulty upgrading, unless it's simply an absence of RTFM. DX4Win 6.03 is a modest improvement on 6.02, from my perspective, but it also doesn't cost anything for users of Version 6. If it doesn't add things you need or want, don't upgrade. For users of Version 5 the improvements are more substantial; take a look at the web site and see if you want them, and if you qualify for a free upgrade or not. I can start a new log for the new call, of course, but then I don't have the benefit of any of the information about previous QSOs with people, and the spot window is this solid wall of red. At 07:53 AM 12/18/03 -0500, Larry Gauthier (K8UT) wrote: However - the ByteRunner parallel port is not working. DX4WIN/TopTen and ARSWin both work fine when using LPT1 (the built-in LPT port), but NEITHER program works when trying to use ByteRunner's LPT2. Have you tried printing through LPT2 with Notepad, or Word, or another Windows program? My suspicion is that the Byterunner has a non-standard LPT2 address. you might look in Device Manager and see if it indicates the port is OK. 73, Pete N4ZR Happy Holidays Check out the World HF Contest Station Database at www.pvrc.org/wcsd/wcsdsearch.htm
[Dx4win] Report of unique callsigns and associated notes
At 08:09 AM 12/16/03 -0500, Jim Reisert AD1C wrote: This is easy. Export your log to DX4WIN format. The .DXN file will contain what you want, but it will be two lines. Calls that do NOT have anything in the QSO Notes field will NOT be in the file. Thanks, Jim -- it came out as one line per callsign in what amounts to .csv format, perfect for what I want! 73, Pete N4ZR Happy Holidays Check out the World HF Contest Station Database at www.pvrc.org/wcsd/wcsdsearch.htm
[Dx4win] Dx4win and LoTW

No problems at all, although some folks using earlier DX4WIN have had some problems with mode translations, I think, which were discussed earlier on the ARRL-LotW group at Yahoogroups.com. I uploaded 77,000 QSOs from DX4WIN with minimal problems -- mostly typos on my part, like an Oh instead of a Zero. 73, Pete N4ZR The World HF Contest Station Database was updated October 29. 2469 stations are listed -- 29 new and over 100 updated. [Dx4win] Telnet problem

Is that normal? If not, what can be done to get it to refresh itself? Maybe a problem with how your user record is configured at the server, or with the serve software. I know I am using DX4WIN with the default settings and telnetting to an ARCluster node, and have never seen a problem. 73, Pete N4ZR The World HF Contest Station Database was updated October 29. 2469 stations are listed -- 29 new and over 100 updated. [Dx4win] FAQ for LoTW?
At 09:15 AM 10/12/03 -0400, Ron Wetjen wrote: There's not really much too it. If you want to load logs from multiple calls, you'll need a log for each call. (You'll need to register your main call with the ARRL, and then you can use the certificate you get for that call, to apply for additional certificates.) Export each log into ADIF format, and DX4WIN's job is done! See https://www.arrl.org/lotw/getstart for step by step instructions on how to register and get your first certificate. You'll only be able to go as far as step 2. Then you'll have to wait on the ARRL to send you a postcard with a password (about a week). Once you get that, you're good to go, and follow the rest of the procedures. Make sure you've got the instructions handy the first time ... after you figure it out, it's pretty simple. Only one additional tricky bit I ran into. If you have used the same call from more than one QTH, you need to tell TQSL about the two locations and specify a date range for QSOs from each. I ran into this because I previously used this call from VA, and now from WV. It's easy, though, and involves only a local operation once you have your initial certificate. Signing log records for more than one callsign is another issue, but my understanding is that you can use your initial certificate to sign requests for additional certificates for the other calls, and get an instant response (because security has already been satisfied. Details of this are in the LotW FAQ on arrl.org. 73, Pete N4ZR The World HF Contest Station Database was updated October 3. 2440 stations are listed -- 104 stations were added or updated. [Dx4win] LoTW
After applying for my certificate early Monday AM, I received the postcard with my password today, and logged on to get my cert. to my surprise, the web page said that my password was OK, and my certificate would be issued by e-mail sometime in the next few business days. What's up with this? Overly cautious, or does it really take THAT long? You'd think that by my age I'd have learned patience, but... 73, Pete N4ZR The World HF Contest Station Database was updated August 30. 129 stations were added or updated. [Dx4win] More LOTW info
At 11:25 PM 9/22/03 -0400, Mel wrote: Frankly, the only thing Lotw is going to be good for is WAS... It's so damn complicated for non-US stations to register I suspect it will be a domestic database... We are expected to send personal documents in the mail... Sacrifice personal security in favour of Lotw security... I think not! Cheers... Isn't that a bit overdrawn, Mel? Other than DXpeditions, the only requirement for non-US stations is pretty straightforward -- Every non-USA station requesting a certificate for Logbook of the World must supply a copy of his or her Amateur Radio license in addition to a copy of one other government-issued document indicating his/her identity. Such an additional document might be a driver's license, for example. How many personal documents of that minor level of importance do you send every month to someplace or another by mail? Sure, it's a bit annoying to have to wait for mail notification of your initial certificate password, but the ultimate payoff would seem to be well worth it, for US and non-US stations alike. If I were LotW's authors, I'd be very concerned that one successful fraud could undermine the entire enterprise. 73, Pete N4ZR The World HF Contest Station Database was updated August 30. 129 stations were added or updated.
