Good Evening,    Conditions lately have not been great.  QSB is constant which is an oxymoron.  The noise level is not very high but neither are the signal levels so it's a wash.  The sun continues its inactivity. I was not able to get to last week's net report so we'll start with that.

Good Evening,    Both nets had medium to deep QSB.  Reports of S3 to S7 were common.  QRN was in a steady hiss with a few crackles of summer storms on 40 meters.  Hopefully our pleading to the ion provider did not go in vain.  We may have to sacrifice a metaphor to propitiate it.   I have a

Good Evening, Conditions were not good, abysmal comes to mind.  However, the day was not a total bust.  Two flocks of warblers are surrounding the flowering shrubs near the house.  The yellow warbler is fairly common, they got on my life list almost ten years ago.  But there was a new one

Good Evening,    Twenty meters was less noisy than forty.  QSB was deeper on the latter too.  Surprisingly everyone on 20 meters reported mild temperatures while on forty meters only two ops reported cooler temperatures.  One was hiding from tourists on a hillside near the Pacific.  The

Good Morning,     I spent an hour hiking the property with another set of loggers.  Three times in one week; I am getting my exercise. Today it was wet so we didn't break trail through the vine maple. Following in the elk paths was good enough to let them see the work to be done.  After this

Good Evening,    Roy, K6XK, mentioned not having any earthquakes this week. During my formative years in Wisconsin I had never felt one.  Then in 1972 or '73 the New Madrid fault in Missouri let loose. Instead of working on chemistry problems I was reading Ambrose Bierce in my third floor

Good Evening,    Conditions were poor.  QSB was deep.  But the thunderstorm noise was not too bad.  I remember the bottom of the last cycle seemed interminable, this one compares to it.  At least the upward path is steeper than the backside.  Now to start seeing improvement.    The folks

Good Evening,   Twenty meters was interesting today.  Signals would appear for a few seconds and then be gone.  But normally they came back again and again.  Reports came in from Alaska to Connecticut, Iowa to California but the closest was from about 16 miles away.  Forest Grove, Oregon sits

Good Evening,    A few minutes after the second net I started dinner.  Then I walked out onto the deck.  I took a few steps when I heard the crack of a branch.  Deer don't do that.  I turned and saw a round black shape which ran like a bear.  Hmmm... black bear, cool.  Not very big but I

Good Evening,    Conditions were poor.  Many thunderstorms left layers of noise.  QSB was ranging over 5 to 6 S units.  The ionosphere seems to be jumping if not active.   On 14050.5 kHz at 2200z: K0DTJ - Brian - CA K4TO - Dave - KY K6XK - Roy - IA K4JPN - Steve - GA   On 7047.5 kHz

Good Evening,    The difference between propagation on twenty and forty meters was amazing.  Normally one predicts the other but not today. Twenty was pretty good while forty was not.  Both bands had strong QSB.  I gave more than one report of S0 to S6.  There were a few thunderstorms but
