hanging out the back of it would (IMHO) tend to make the tuner susceptible to
tipping backwards. Locating it under the K3 is not an option at
There should be no interaction issues between the KAT500 and the KPA500 when
the KAT is under the amp. We also beefed up the KAT500 cabinet to handle the
weight of the KPA500.
Also, placing it on top of the amp does not raise amp PA transistor temp
significantly for most casual duty cycle use,
So the official word is that the KAT500 can be positioned either under, or
on top of, the KPA500. It can take the weight of the KPA500. That's good to
have settled.
Of course, now one needs to mull over what to do if you've had custom covers
made by Rose Kopp or RadioDustCovers.com... Would
Now Rose can make covers for the various stacking set ups. Two items
protected by one cover.

If the KAT500 is placed below the KPA500, this combination will have to sit
level on the desk because the KAT500 doesn't appear to have a bale. If the

extended, it seems this might cause the tuner to slide backwards as

I wonder if the trick will be to place the KAT-500 on top either the K3 or
KPA-500 and NOT have it slide off the back?
I run portable everyday and bench top area is very limited so I am in a

*Eric,
Well that answered my concerns regarding placing under the K3/KPA-500
nicely.
Thanks a bunch.

I would not bet on the KAT500 being a lightweight. Those large toroid
cores are heavy. Certainly not as heavy as the KPA500, but not a
lightweight either.
The KAT100 had little brackets that could be placed so as to capture the
rear feet of the K2, so maybe some similar bracket will be
The KAT500 uses steel panels for rigidity and extra weight. It won't
move around under normal circumstances.
