Hi all,
AWESOME!!!
This is all I can say about this kit.
Couldn't wait and assembled it the same day it arrived, Thursday.
Everything went by the book and the results are spectacular with all the city
noise I have in my QTH.
Now just have to get used with the extra menusand the artifacts it
Ciao John, I quote 100% what you wrote ! My dream should be to use the
fantastic P3 also at tx time having there all info it's useful to have in
order to be sure that tx is optimized.
I intend P3 as a powerful measurement instrument not only a panoramic useful
device .Right now you have to buy
Apologies for posting OT but I know there are other Elecraft users of

would like to compare notes off-list with other users.

The USB and LSB BFO for each filter was almost identical to each other. I
used the BFO numbers in the K2 SSB manual as a starting point and used
spectrogram to fine tune the filters. I am now able to receive readable SSB
on all bands. I knew it was something I overlooked. Thank you for your help.
I have downloaded the new Beta for the K3 and P3, all seems to be working OK
on the HF bands, but I seem to have a problem with the P3 when using my 23cm
transverter on Xvtr Band 4 (converting to 28MHz). On all the other bands I
can get the usual panadaptor and waterfall displays, but on 23cm
John,
That's a strange one. The transverter gain is supposed to default to 25
dB. If you can't adjust it with MENU:XV Gain, then you might try the
Parameter Initialization procedure on page 24 of the manual.

I have checked the calibration on both of my K3s with my XG-1, and the K3 S
meter is miles apart from the P3 readings in S units. If this is going to be
the case especially in SSB, just please say thats the way it going to be.
There are a lot of us apparently who are perplexed by these
Thanks Alan, a Parameter Initialization seems to have sorted it out OK. By
the way its on P26 of the current manual on the website. The new fixed tune
mode is exactly what I was waiting for, thanks to all at Elecraft for the
continuing evolution.

Roy,
Did you calibrate the P3?
Tap the P3 MENU Button
Turn the knob until you see Lvl Cal
With the XG1 on the antenna connector of the K3 and turned on, adjust the level
to S-9.
Tap the knob.

I have calibrated both my K3 (using ABS) and P3 by the manual with an XG2
the P3 Transfer gain (db): -12.1
In SSB or AM, if I want the P3's S meter reading to match the K3's S meter
I have to change the P3's Transfer gain (db) to -32.5 db
actually if I'm running 200khz span is should be about

The most likely problem is that you failed to solder pin 1 of either the
display itself or the resistor pack directly bellow it. Pin 1 of both

Before assuming that you have a problem, you should
1) Calibrate the K3 RF gain using the procedure built into the K3 Utility.
2) Calibrate the K3 s-meter using the procedure explained in the K3 manual.
3) Adjust the P3 calibration using the Amplitude Calibration procedure in the
latest P3
With averaging, P3 reads some 10db below in SSB than without averaging. Seems
logical as average SSB signal is 10db below the peak. Pressing PEAK show the
real peak, and it agrees with my K3 after calibration.
So one question is what to do with P3 that shows less with averaging?

Hello all,
New K3 build 5068 on the bench, trying to get it working with my Macbook Air.
I spent the bulk of the afternoon trying to get this working before asking for
help on the list, couldn't find anything
on the Elecraft reflector or on the Internet which was directly helpful.
Could someone
I have found that -8.9 LVL CAL (transfer gain) is the setting for an S9 reading
on my P3 using my XG-1. The readings track right well as long as they are not
stronger than S9+20. Signals over this on the K3 S meter are just not correct
on my P3. If I change the LVL CAL (transfer gain) to
Weal (S1-S7 or so) signals don't show up at all on the K3 S meter when
using the internal 2mtr xvtr. This was true both before and after the
latest beta firmware change. Same signals generate a reasonable s meter
reading on the P3. The receiver is sensitive enough (compared to other

Within 10 minutes of my post Bill K1GQ nailed it, the drivers from the Elecraft
site
are NOT correct for the newer chip set used on the KUSB cable.
I downloaded the correct driver from the site Bill suggested, and things
just worked! Just 100% delighted how quickly and well the K3 Utility works.

yes mine does, as it has always done. i wish there was a line out r=lineout
l menu setting. You can get it on left and right by setting Line out =
speaker but this is a pain on rtty as one has to endure the sound out of
the speaker or else no line out signal

mine does exactly the same when setup as you did. I went back to the
previous revision
It also did the same when converting 902MHz to 28MHz on xverter band 3

The issue of the erroneous S meter readings has been an issue (for me at least)
since I updated from firmware 3.97.
I like all the new features in the later firmwares but I would appreciate
getting our real S meter readings back on 2M.
(Case in point, the local FM repeater here shows as 60db
An SSB signal that is S9 on the K3's S-meter is not going to measure S9 on the
P3.
The reason is that an SSB signal has bandwidth, and the sum of all of the
signal
within that bandwidth is what the K3's S-meter reads.
You would have to add up all of the power of the SSB signal on the P3's

John,
To answer your question, I suggest getting the transverters out of the
equation - there are too many variables right now. Let's try to take it
one step at a time.
Do you have an oscilloscope? If so, try 40 meters into a dummy load -
note the amplitude of a CW signal on the 'scope.
Bruce - I have been with this issue for close to a year. Parallel with
your post I believe I have I finally have the solution. Hard to
believe the Elecraft website does not reflect the fix.

I was using Ham Radio Deluxe with the older KUSB cable running XP.
Everything worked fine for several years. My old PC died and I bought a
new laptop with the 64 bit I3 processor running Windows 7 Home Addition
Premium. I loaded HRD and also updated the Prolific Drivers from their
web site.
I am finding the same here, Jeff, and it has been reported. But for me a
more important problem with the K144XV is the amount of frequency drift.
It would see there are several issues that need resolving.
