The Bolt, like the Spark EV before it, always resets to 8 amps for charging
whenever you turn the car on or put it in gear. You have to manually reset
it to the 12 amp setting every time you charge. The EVSE which comes with
the Bolt will operate on 120 or 240 volts, but there are no changeable
I got my used 2017 Bolt EV in March from a niece in Boston who was getting
a Tesla Y. Her husband had limited the charge to ~90% to keep it from fully
charging, but I still had more than 4 times the range of any of the home
made EVs I had previously had. Today I had an appointment to see if it has

I am interested in this Mark, because of the last portion regarding DC
quick charging. I have not been able to get my 2016 Spark LT2 to charge on
EVGO CCS chargers. I have tried them at 5 different locations and either
get no response or when it seems to have started, get an error message from

Well, it's not a dying wish, but I just had an offer which was really
tempting. A young friend who has been asking me EV questions for a while
called and asked if I would like to drive him and his two children to the
San Francisco airport tonight in his brand new Tesla X 100D. I have not

Very impressive Cor, you are a very skilled and incredibly willing giver to

Thanks for your help for so many of us through the EV years

I do not remember ever seeing any mention of this technology proposal on
the EVDL. A much younger millennial friend who does robotics sent it to me,
so I am sending it to the much wiser and experienced members of the list
for comments.
Thank you EV Brothers (and special thanks to Jim Wall who helped me with my
1st conversion!) for making what is already a GREAT EV season for me even
better. One more time this wonderful group of gifted & generous innovators

That was the *GOOD* DCP controller; I had an early one in my first real
conversion (http://www.evalbum.com/238) which had a 192v lead acid pack. I
made the mistake of "upgrading" to the 1200. And, as Cor said, the
capacitors are definitely the common failure point.
Adding to the flea market here,
I had only had one previous lease experience before leasing the Spark EV I
drove home at the end of October; I leased a Saturn for my wife in 1999
because I was waiting for the Honda Civic Hybrid. She will not give up her
clutch, does not like automatic transmissions, and Honda was the only one
There have been many times in my journey through the seasons of life when
the learning curve seemed like a vertical wall at times. Learning to use
real regenerative braking is one of the factors I have had no previous
experience of in driving EV's, since until the last 30 days, I had only

I think you all know the rest of that experiential wisdom; I was inspired

have never done before-->lease a NEW EV for myself. I have bought 3 &

I spent some time looking through the archive, but couldn't find what I'm
looking for--> I think I have one weak cell in my 40 cell 100 Ah pack; I'm
getting a low battery signal (mini BMS) under load when there is more than
sufficient range left on the charge. These are CALB batteries which I
It was an already re-converted Jet 750P which introduced me to EV's and
brought me to this discussion list in 1999. They definitely have well put

have seen were all the 9 inch GE motors which I found to be an excellent EV

Well stated, both of you! I definitely am ready for that 100 mile range,

Thank you all, generous EVDL, for giving me enough information to pass on

My '87 Escort EV (http://www.evalbum.com/4181) has the white sticker. It

Thank you all for the suggestions and guidance, based on your experience.
Tom W got it, I had 8 out of 40 cells ahead of the pack yesterday when I
last worked on it, (between going back up to the house and checking the
replies), and I can do what he did, using the same set up.
And, as always, I
I have been trying to re-balance my 4 year old 100Ah CALB pack with
mini-BMS, identifying the highest SOC cells by watching for the red LED's

using a 12 volt, 50 watt "A" lamp, leaving it on the cells one at time for

I have a 30 amp 120 volt outlet under my house which is used for "shore
power" for my 5th wheel RV. That is the only application I have ever seen
it used in. I run a 10 gauge 3 wire "extension cord" out to the RV.

I say Enthusiastic Yes! to the proposal. I came to the EVDL in 1999 for
help to get a driveable electric pick up on stage for a show. While doing
that (successfully thanks to EVDL folks) I decided that I wanted to build a
daily driver for my commute. I'm still driving electric conversions now,
