I have an instance where a user keys in a name in the to: box and the name
resolves. But once the message goes out it is returned because of a bad
address. The person swears they are using the global address list. I have
no problems with the list.
Try running the Knowledge Consistency Checker on the mailbox servers after
replicating the removal of the Dir Rep connector.
When I had to do this in the past, I made sure that all servers in each site
had replicated and all other sites removed before recreating the Dir Rep
connector.

One problem, the dir rep has already been added back. The funny thing is
the other admin added one of the users back on the bridgehead. It
replicated successfully to the users servers and then all of the other users
disappeared from the list. This is weird.

You probably only need the SP4_550I.EXE, which is the core files
that updates the 5.5 server. The SP4_55SS1.EXE includes the files you
find in the \SUPPORT directory.
There a number of hotfixes for Exchange 5.5 SP4 (you need SP4
first!) that you can download from
Ed come to think of it I used to know someone in the company and they did
mention that. What they want is someone to do the day to day admin. stuff
(what ever they think that is), while they migrate from 5.5 to 2000. Would
love to involved with that project. Nice to put on the old resume.

I am trying to do domainprep and forestprep on a w2k server, however the
exchange 2000 CD I am using does not have these options. Did some digging on
the Microsoft site and it says something about a Release Candidate 2 (RC2)
or RTM version of E2K. Is this different than standard edition
