[FairfieldLife] Rage -- A Positive Emotion? A Second Ode to

2005-12-17 Thread a_non_moose_ff
Dylan Thomas' "Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night"

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

[FairfieldLife] Ode to Dr. Pete

2005-12-17 Thread a_non_moose_ff
Tears of Rage, by Bob Dylan and Richard Manuel

We carried you in our arms
On Independence Day,
And now you'd throw us all aside
And put us on our way.
Oh what dear daughter 'neath the sun
Would treat a father so,
To wait upon him hand and foot
And always tell him, "No"?
Tears of rage, tears of grief,
Why must I always be the thief?
Come to me now, you know
We're so alone
And life is brief.

We pointed out the way to go
And scratched your name in sand,
Though you just thought it was nothing more
Than a place for you to stand.
Now, I want you to know that while we watched,
You discover there was no one true.
Most ev'rybody really thought
It was a childish thing to do.
Tears of rage, tears of grief,
Must I always be the thief?
Come to me now, you know
We're so low
And life is brief.

It was all very painless
When you went out to receive
All that false instruction
Which we never could believe.
And now the heart is filled with gold
As if it was a purse.
But, oh, what kind of love is this
Which goes from bad to worse?
Tears of rage, tears of grief,
Must I always be the thief?
Come to me now, you know
We're so low
And life is brief.

[FairfieldLife] Re: Seeing Rage

2005-12-17 Thread braaahmaan
Oh, yes. Sorry. I forgot to state the obvious prediction: you see rage
and anger in my post. hahaha. What else is new?

Can you cite one post that pokes fun at you, or criticizes you, in
which you don't, in YOUR EYES, see rage and anger in the poster?

Lets list the posts explicitly.

Its such a great defense mechanism. Especially when you can cloak it
with a phd and professional practice.

Again, waiting for you to cantact me about that paper.

[FairfieldLife] Seeing Rage

2005-12-17 Thread braaahmaan
Peter, your recent comments on rage are intriguing.

You see rage in my satire. I'm just curious. Do you see rage in other
satires? Swift, Bruce, Sahl, Kaufman, Gorafalo, Silverman ?

Not that my satire is of their caliber. Mine is only amateur -- yet it
is topical. Being amateur, I should think it may induce greater rage
in you than professional satirists. Is that the case?

Or maybe its the ineptitude of my satire that enrages you, as if you
are shouting inside "damn it, if you are going to be satirical, at
least do a good job at it !." (Or as Barry would say "Do a flying fuck
good job at it.".) I agree. Bad comics are bad news. But sick?

But, yeah. I agree. There is nothing lamer than someone who professes
to be something and doesn't come near the standards of his or her
profession.

Well, maybe you don't like the "satire campfire". Maybe you are more
comfortable in your own backyard, making smores. Near Mom. Not in the
wilderness that satire entails. No harm, no foul.

Maybe you don't like campfires. Where high yarns are told and tall
tales are spun. And you need to sort out stuff for yourself. Beyond
the sacred literal. No harm, no foul.

Well rage is an intersting phenomenon. Good luck in treating yours.
Its odd isn't it, people with maladies migrate towards becoming
treatment professionalsin to those same maladies.

I tended towards satire. yes all acknowledgements of lameness fully
owned. Guess I tended towards curing my damn funny bone. Inept an
attempt as that has been. But I can't stop laughing. Is that a
sickness? In your book? Giggling? Braeking out in a roaring laugh like
a bear? Vapid sickness? What kind of therapy shouldI seek for a warped
funny bone? A warped therapist?

No thats not the same bone you were keen on when apologizing to Tom.
Now THAT, I have to hand it to you, was like the best INEPT move I
have seen ever. Totally breaking boundaries. Kaufmanesque. All plauds
to you on that one. The scales of ackwardness and bad taste were
raised to such heights, I was in awe. Maladjust on brother.

[FairfieldLife] Re: The Brahaman Tom psyche unfolding

2005-12-17 Thread braaahmaan
I have a great idea Peter. It will surely boost your career and the
esteem of your therapist collegues for you. Lets use me and my post as
a case study that you can present at the American Pyschologist
Association national conference.

Part I: A survey of Tom's comments

Part II: My recent post

Part III: Your professional analysis of why it is "replete with
rage and hostility"

Part IV: Proposed Therapies to Migigate the Rage. TM, AOL, Prayer,
Yagyas, Therapy.

Part IV: Q and A from the peer audience of therapists.

Lets do it Peter. I am more than willing to be the fool and show my
apparent maladies, even if I have to publically humiliate myself to
further the field of mental health aand to help you out in your career.

Contact me for details. I think this is an important paper. Its
imperative you move on it now. For the sake of the world.

[FairfieldLife] Re: The Brahaman Tom psyche unfolding

2005-12-17 Thread braaahmaan
Thanks Peter ro your on-line diagnosis. I will look into it.

In re-reading the post, it makes me laugh and seems witty to me. Am I
alone? Tom's proclamations appear to me Monty Pythonic. But then,
maybe my sense of humor is "special".

Could you cite specific currently acknowledge psychoanalytic theory as
to why the post is "replete with rage and hostility"? Or is this not a
professional opinion, but rather a personal one?

Does your profession, profressional organizations and peer recognize
on-line diagnoses?

Peter, you seem to see anger and rage in anyone who disagrees with
you. Have you noticed that?

By the way, where did you obtain your doctoral degree. An accredited
university? I can't find it anywhere on the internet. I hope it wasn't
correspondence school that Johny Gray got his " PHD"" from.

Do you publish papers? Or have any recognition from peers for your
credibility? Speeches at conferences?

Your online diagnoses seems so out of touch with anything I have seen
in the legitimate therapy field, it makes me wonder as to your
training and qualifications to make such on-line assessments.

As I recall, there is another phd therapist on this list. I forget his
name. Kevin? Works at VA hostpital. He has always seemed so balanced
and measured in his comments, particularly compared to the sometimes
pitta-outpourings of Dr Sutphen. If he is around, perhaps he can
comment on:

1) is the post in question definitively "replete with rage and
hostility" -- from a professional psychologist perspective. Or is it
perhaps only one therapists view? Is it a view many other therapiss
would hold?

2) Have you noticed a tendency for Peter to find rage and anger in any
many posts that he disagrees with?

But thanks Peter. I will show these posts to a therapist acquatintance
of mine and see if she

1) thinks my coments are "replete with rage and hostility"?

2) thinks you are a quack

3) laughs her head off at Tom's assertions

4) looks sternly at me for getting involved with such people

If you can't laugh at someone proclaiming to be channeling Brahman
saying "from my side they can take a long walk off a short
dock or suck eggs whichever seems most appropriate" you may have a
stick up your ass.

You know the joke. Benson's technique is repeating,
"one, one, one". His advanced technique is, "Two,
two,two."

Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: The Brahaman Tom psyche unfolding

2005-12-17 Thread gullible fool

To be more precise, Rick unsubscribed anonymousff from
FFL. The anonymous ID/email account is still alive.
Only yahoo can delete an email account. Whoever
changed the password can apply to rejoin FFL.
Hopefully, the comment box he has to fill out upon
applying to join will have a very sound reason for why
he changed the password.

I don't beleive in UNITY actually. I believe in the MOMENT. Not
daydreams and speculations.

But hey. why not make the "anonyff" user name's password public?

Then we will have more anon log ons. Blue Meanines won't be able to
shut down communications. Infinite routings. Open source postings.
Live Now. While the Cultists and Indoctrinarists eat cake. Or suck eggs.

I created anonyff last night as a replacement to
anonymousff and ran into the same problem trying to
use anonyff for the password. It's a recent change.
Every time yahoo makes a change, the interface becomes
more difficult to use.

Since you could not use the same ID and password, I
guess you are not in Unity, either.

So it wasn't deleted due to abuse of an anon user. Interesting.

Brahaman Tom says that was how it came down.

Damn, I am so confused.

I guess Brahman is just setting up another (sigh) paradox for us so we

Way back when, in Beacon Light of the Himalayas Maharishi said you can
choose any word at all to transcend on. That being the case, any word
at all, such as with Benson's technique, will allow you to transcend.
In BL of the H Maharishi then goes on to say that we choose the names
of Hindu gods for their pleasing influence. But this does not negate
what he said immediately prior to that (which I said immediately prior
to that in this post).

I am inspired by your recent posts Tom. To know that it is BRAHMAN --
the totality of wholenss of all creation, non-creation and ALL That
which is neither -- seeing through Tom's eyes, and that BRAHAMAN who
is typing these "*your*" posts on FFL is so mystically exalting, all
the hairs on my body are standing on end.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FairfieldLife/message/81908
The writer looking out through these eyes is that Brahman.

On my alter, both internal and external, with all gratitude and
offerings to Saraswati -- Goddess of Knowledge, to Laksmi -- Godess of
structure that brings Wholenss, to Tara, Swami Brahmananda Saraswati,
to the sweet Jesus the Christ, to Yogananda, to Ananda Moya Ma, the
River of Compassion, to Ramakrishna, to many if not all Aghoris,
Naths, Saivaite, Sufi, Vaisnava, Tibetian Buddhist saints, scholars,
lamas, ripoches, shamans -- I have added Brahaman as reflected
through Tom. One of your greatest quotes is embedded in Pure Gold
above my alter:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FairfieldLife/message/82153
>From my side they can take a long walk off a short dock or suck eggs
whichever seems most appropriate.

The depth of wisdom and compassion flowing from Brahaman, who is YOU,
through your fingers, thrill my very being.

All gratitidue.

Just curious as to reasoning? Since it was a FFL feature, it seems
resonable to provide an announcement of a change of FFL policy

And was there some abuse observed? If so please share what that was so

Barry-Margaret. It kind of fits.

So astutely sure of herself, and extensively verbose, about why
everyone else is wrong and improper.

And so vocal about being why she is immune to Dennis's and others'
teasing and boyish harangues -- only to run home crying and
extensively recounting in detail how the neighborhood is so mean and
fuck-up -- chalking it all up to them being so warped (angry,
resentful, not recognizing her great vision of life) -- her odd quirks
and abrupt discordance between her words and actions having nothing to
do with the -- in reality -- gentle teasing.

Barry in a nutshell. (Nutshell is not implying anything about nut case.)

So, you mean Herbie Benson's relaxation response does no good, or
perhaps may produce relaxation but no spiritual growth. And that the
mantras have an enlivening quality other than as a vehicle to the
transcendent. Personally, I like my mantra. Would not want to trade.
I am just curious if the two approaches have any measureable
difference, or if the difference is just on the meta level.

Its good enough for me -- but its a subjective thing. It has good
specs, but you would need to hear. Plus, most mp3 players have "super"
bass options -- which may give you enuf of a subwoofer sound to
satisfy you.

[FairfieldLife] Re: Satya Yug in India.??

2005-12-17 Thread Premanand Paul Mason
Indian newspapers all too frequently carry news of man's inhumanity
to man. The reports of murder bring a kneejerk reaction of revulsion,
but the hidden unspoken news is that good healthcare for many is
beyond their pockets.

Having spent about five weeks recently visiting a Delhi hospital, I
am very impressed by the close co-operation of Hindu, Muslim, Sikh,
and Christian peoples in working together in harmony for the common
good, utilising up-to-date technology and methods. For me this is
cause to feel a measure of optimism for India's future. But they need
help in reaching out to the disadvantaged poor. They need money. They
need it to treat the very poor, the sweepers and the skivvies. I am
no Bob Geldorf but anyway please give them your bloody money!

I must take exception with your generalizations about TM. I started
TM at the age of 21. I also worked for the TMO. The technique has
always worked flawlessly for me, just as advertised, just as I was
told it would. Some conclusions:

1. Beyond wanting to explore the knowledge beyond the door that my
practice of TM opened for me, I was not into TM like a groupie,
waiting for the next 'greatest hit' to emerge from the Movement, so
much of the silliness passed me by, while I continued to meditate
habitually 2x a day.

2. I've never experienced strain during the practice, or
alternatively looked to it for flashy experiences, because that
wasn't the way it was taught or marketed to me. I have always
experienced it as a way to clear out and untangle my nervous system,
one shovelful of muck at a time. Over 30 years, it has worked as
advertised.

3. What I have learned is that TM is a useful tool. Period. When the
TMO began proclaiming how I should live my life, that isn't why I
learned, or do, the technique.

I have always appreciated the nearly transparent grafting of the
technique onto my highly individualistic way of being, without
feeling that somehow the experience isn't complete if I wasn't
hanging around with a bunch of TMers and supporting our experiences
with a cult-like groupthink.

I stopped working for the Movement because my experience led me to
believe that those with the power in the organization were less
interested in pursuing enlightenment, than they were in
consolidating their power base, and mood-making. That was when I
came up with the phrase that I've mentioned before, to characterize
their thinking, "Unbounded awareness is great, but enough's
enough...".

I was gripped by the Self during my last days with them, and ran
through the lot of them like a knife through butter. It was quite a
sight to see, and brings a chuckle to me even twenty years later.

PS In all fairness there were also a few Governors I met, like Paul
Moreland and Mark Piper, who were true to themselves.

4. Seeing as how TM is just one very useful tool in life's toolbox,
the thing I learned after meditating for years, was that I had to
own my own shit.

TM was not a magic wand. This imo is where a LOT of practitioners of
sapritual practice get stuck- that crucial piece after gaining some
clarity and perspective on our lives, to work on our relative
nature; our bodies, our personalities, our interpersonal
relationships, the residue of our past challenges. All of it. Just
by doing TM, that stuff doesn't magically fix itself. However, I was
never told that it would either.

5. TM was always meant as a technique for the masses. Does everyone
have a good experience with it? No, but the same could be said of
any technique. However, for people like me with a very
individualistic streak, it works great!

Regarding the generalizations made about the technique itself, it
depends where you look for your conclusions. I recall many years ago
being exposed outside Japan to Buddhis

[FairfieldLife] Deepak's Next Effort....

2005-12-17 Thread bostonbob53
 Deepak Chopra's Kama Sutra
According to Publishers Weekly, Deepak Chopra has received a
six-figure advance from Virgin Books to rewrite Vatsyayana's Kama
Sutra. An article in yesterday's HindustanTimes has a bit more detail:

The deal has been described as bringing together two of India's
well-known and established brands. The book might be called Deepak
Chopra's Kama Sutra: Timeless Erotica for the Virgin Mind...

Originally the (Kama Sutra) served purely as erotic literature for
kings and queens, said Chopra. But he believes that there is a great
connection between sexuality and spirituality. He wants to explore
that and take the carnal experience to new heights of spiritual
ecstasy. Link

And here's Guruphiliac's take on it:

As much as we find Chopra a pabulum factory for Hollywood's seeker
set, he's sidled right on up to the next hottness in spirituality:
freedom from sexual guilt and Victorian-era moral repression.

While we're sure Chopra will palpify it in no time, it's still a
signficant development in the alternative spiritual scene. But just
because Chopra is Indian doesn't mean he's a master of doing it. It's
too bad Virgin didn't have the vision to hire someone with more
affinity for the subject matter. We imagine rock star Tommy Lee and a
bevy of beautiful Sanskrit scholars locked in a hotel room for a week
could take the centuries-old text to a whole new level of the erotic. Link

Why don't you give us some examples of the original
Sanskrit technical terms in yoga that are translated
as "transcendental," Vaj, and explain how this shows
that TM gives only a momentary glimpse?

It's a good intro. What they sell people on

And you make this distinction on what basis, exactly?

I believe a couple of alternate translations of this were
suggested that said something quite different, but I don't
recall your having commented on them.

[FairfieldLife] Google Music Search

2005-12-17 Thread Rick Archer
It's new. Try it:

http://www.google.com/musicsearch

Google Can Name That Tune

By: John Stith

The newest aspect of Google's massive searching entity has launched
and it's a music search. Basically, the jist is they've added more
details for music-oriented searches. While the search right now is
somewhat limited, they do plan on expanding the listings.

The search lists artists, their albums and songs. It provides routes
to pick up music, albums and individual songs through various sites.
At this point, it's not hard to find popular music or something
that's been around for a while like Elvis, but other things are
little more difficult. Google said on their blog they plan to offer
classical music, worldwide artists and lesser-known artists.

Right now the music search feature mostly works for artists popular
in the U.S. and a more limited number of artists from other
countries, but we plan to expand it to classical music, worldwide
artists, and lesser-known performers.

Google's not the first search entity to try music search though.
Companies like GoFish Technologies have been doing this search
since September. They've got a music/video content search and they
say it's workable with any search engine. They also put together a
"Search-by-Lyrics" feature back in June and a play list publication
enterprise as well.

This new move by Google will surely be followed by other search
engines. The question comes from whether or not they will create
their own or will they be willing to work with a company like GoFish
and just integrate and existing product?

[FairfieldLife] FW: from the pandits in India

2005-12-17 Thread Rick Archer
-- Forwarded Message
From: Blaine <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Date: Sat, 17 Dec 2005 07:46:25 -0500
To:
Subject: from the pandits in india

this i just received from a pandit friend of mine in india
regarding the kalasarpa dosha email which is being sent around. i
had asked for further clarification regarding yagyas as well as
some people had been coming across websites which were mentioning
how yagyas should be done. he clarifies which mantras are to be
used and how. he clarifies even the colour of the clothes that the
pandits should or should not be wearing. each of the planets is
having a particular colour and one website mentions that for
mercury (budha) the pandits should wear green colour since that is
the colour of mercury. i had never heard anything like that before
and had never seen it anywhere in india so i asked about that. i
have known this pandit for many many years and have lived with him
and studied jyotish and yagya for extended periods of time. as you
know i never recommend anything that i have not tried or done
myself or anyone whom i have not met or dealt with personally. i
also favour tradtional, authentic approaches and assiduously avoid
those who place their own spin or intellectual interpretation on
this knowledge. this pandit scores very high in my books on every
level.

December 17,2005

Dear Blaine
I did not see kalsarpa figure in the sky at this time. So,I am not
commenting anything about her that why she the saying this.

I am a Vedic astrologer and believed in vedic mantra only. I never
used tantrik manta, because sometime tantrik manta gave harmful
effect on pandit and person (for whom yagya is done). Vedic mantra
is much more powerful and it does not give any harmful effect on
anyone.

Veda is the knowledge of Brahma. Veda¹s mantra give the fulfillment
of desires.Every mantra has Rashi, Devata and Chhand.

It is not necessary that number of pandit should be 5 to 21 pandits
or upto 101Pandits. Its only depends upon Œhow large yagya is¹. If
yagya is small in size then number of pandit become less (less then
5 pandits also) and when yagya is large then number of pandit
become more (more then 101pandits also).

the Pandits are doing Trikal Sandhya and Gayatri Mantra Japa. They
also do pooja of every planet, Devata, Adhi Devata and Partyadi
Devata every day in morning time. Our¹s Pandit do yagya 8 hours in
a day. After yagya pandit do hawan .Pandit wear yellow colour and
red colour cloth (Pitamber) and sometime white also.
I read a website and come to know that for Bhudha
similar colour is green So, pandit should wear green dress for
doing Bhudha¹s yagya. I want to comment on it that If pandit will
wear green colour for Bhudha¹s yagya then for Sani,Rahu and ketu
(similar colour is black) pandit should wear black colour dress.
Which(black colour) is not suit for Veda. I never seen black or
green colour dress
of vedic pandits inVeda, Sashtra. According to me only tantrik
pandit used black colour for their yagya.

My tabla teacher (David Hurlin) can get a good set through his tabla teacher
in India for about $300. As Dr. Pete suggests, the same set would probably
cost $500 elsewhere. I haven't done that yet. I've only been playing a few
months and want to make sure I stick to it before investing in good ones. So
far I'm practicing regularly and progressing nicely.

What Acem say, is that they give out a sound. They do not do the
Puja because they do not want to be associated with Hindu and
Religion. The interesting thing is that it has been done some
research of the effect of their Meditation Technique,at a University
in Norway. And the effect is very good as a stress release
technique. Like the TM-Technique. They have Yoga Classes and a lot
of themes that they give courses in. The Leader for ACEM is a well-
known psychiatrist.

The TM movement or other "We've got the answers if you've got the cash"!

Sounds right on the money to me! ;-)

I play a drum set (which by the way is really, really,
really loud) with 29dB canceling headphones with
internal speakers. You can pick them up at any chain
music store for around $100.00. Now that I'm focusing
on hand drums my wife is so much happier! No more bass
thumping through the house. Just close my music room
door and the Doums and Teks barely carry.

I'm not sure about this specific case, but Hindu

They seem to have a real problem with untouchables leaving their religion and
finding some kind of social acceptance and equality among

Big 6-0! Lordy! I just passed the big 5-2. We're all
turning into ol' farts. In 1973 the average age of a

Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: Howard Sterns' Unboundedness

2005-12-17 Thread Peter
Good thing Howard is regular in his TM, otherwise we'd
really have to worry! But seriously, I love Howard,
not for the juvenile content of his show, but for his
absolute, self-effacing honesty. This is the only
reason he's so successful. Others have tried to copy
him but they always fail because they are not
authentic. You should see the interview of Howard with
Bill O'Rielly. Bill looks like a fool in the front of
the simple honesty of Howard.

No puja = no parashakti. Slow, slow path. A dead

remove the puja? Who's name do they teach in? They're
own? Where do they say this practice came from, the

A couple of weeks ago a professional tabla player came

but the problem with the tabla is that it is
SOOO quiet compared to doumbeks and djembes
that it can not be heard unless it is amplified. E-bay
has some decent tablas for beginners. The range from
$100 for a cheapo pair to $500 for some real nice
ones. Although I would never by a tabla on ebay!

George Wilson goes by the name Yrjö [uer-yoe] Karjunen.
Beats me how on earth "george" can become "yrjö",
but also the George-kings are called here "Yrjö".
Furthermore, for some peculiar reason, "yrjö" is
a "nickname" for "vomit"! I guess it sounds a bit
like someone vomiting. It's also used as a verb:
"Yrjö-sin eilen" (I vomited [george-d] yesterday).

[FairfieldLife] Re: TMO as a valid employer

2005-12-17 Thread Ingegerd
Does anyone know if some TM-Teachers has been in court with the TMO?
In Norway we had one case in the 70ths, where some TM-Teachers were
kicked out of the TMO, and they started their own organisation,
teaching Transcendental Meditation. It was a Court-Case where the
TMO lost. Afterwards it came to an Agreement that the TMO paid a lot
of money to the New Organisation not to use the words Transcendental
meditation. The New Organisation named ACEM is very successfull in
Norway, they are holding courses everywhere regularly, they own
Hotels with great Standards and is very much respected. They have
changed the procedure, do not perform Puja, and has taken away
everything that reminds about MMY. Why they was banned, was that
they started to ask questions about the TMO, bookcounting, where
does the money go, the dogma and MMY.

BTW, the "techni-chord" feature of that organ is cool.
With TC on it occasionally sounds like I could really

I kinda like it, too. :-) Obviously, it pisses others off
and brings out their agressive, threatened sides. Go figure.
I think it's something associated with being in the cusp of
a big birthday; things have been fired up for me for the
last day or so, and the heat seems to keep increasing as
I approach the Big 6-0.

You, too. I can think of no more holy or enlightened thing
to do than share some champagne with the one you love and
gaze at a beautiful sunset. Bruce Cockburn (my favorite
songwriter/wordsmith) wrote a song about that once. His
commentary on how the song came to him, followed by one
of the verses:

BC: But the song actually came from, out of a conversation
with [fellow Canadian singer/songwriter] Sam Phillips, one
point we were walking along, and it might even have been
in Seattle and um, I was carrying this bag of stuff that
I always carry around, this knapsack with whatever, you
know, notebook, flashlight, toilet paper...

JF/MW: ...the essentials..

BC: ...rope, Power Bars, all that stuff [laughing] and uh,
we were walking up some hill somewhere and she is going:
What do you carry in that thing anyway? And I said: Oh,
it's everything I need for the Apocalypse! And, and, Sam
just stopped and looked at me and said: What do you need
for the Apocalypse besides champagne and a couple of
glasses? And I [thought] man, that's a song you know,
there's a song in there for sure! It took me a few years
to figure out what it was but that's what really triggered
the sentiment in Last Night of the World.

I've seen the flame of hope among the hopeless
And that was truly the biggest heartbreak of all
That was the straw that broke me open

If this were the last night of the world
What would I do?
What would I do that was different
Unless it was champagne with you?

It's just utterly fascinating to me how people who
have been involved in the TM movement or other "We've
got the answers if you've got the cash" spiritual
movements get warped by that over the years. They
tend to react to everything spiritual that they
encounter as if someone is trying to sell them some-
thing. And they tend to doubt the new thing as a
default because not much that's been sold to them
in the past has done much for them.

Add to that the focus that Maharishi and TM have put
on "scientific verification" of something (enlight-
enment) that defies even *subjective* verification,
and you've got a interesting mix -- people who
profess to be seekers, but who have been programmed
to automatically reject that which they seek.

I have a model that's now several years old, and
must have been replaced by the ones you mention.
I like 'em, but sound is subjective. If you've got
a store nearby where you can try the ones that are
getting good reviews and sound interesting to you,
that'd be the way to go. Bring a couple of your
favorite CDs with you and listen to them on several
pairs of 'phones.
