year. I had trapped her again to relocate her to my back yard since the area
the colony was living is being developed. She was living in my garage/cat
enclosure while acclimating to my yard and seemed to be doing

I'm so sorry you lost Mae. It's terribly hard to keep losing our
FelV kitties... Thank you for giving this dumpster kitty such love
and kindness during her short life.

you could try angel's gate, they have a place in long island, but also one in
upstate near delhi (they were willing to take a feluk cat I was trying to find
a home for, but in the end I kept him due to medical issues and anxiety) that
was about two years ago so I dont know if they are still

i find it really scary how many sanctuaries keep appearing, with no history
in the FIV/FeLV community.

Never heard of them.
According to their website they've only been around since 2005. Lots-of-cats
in a rural setting always makes me nervous. And, whoa! They want a $5000
surrender fee for a healthy cat and $7500 to take in an FIV or FeLV cat. I
guess that's one way to make sure you
Hmmm. Only 10 cats listed for adoption on their petfinder site. And only one
of those, an FIV+ boy, is listed as special needs.
This also makes me suspicious about the long term viability of the place. You
have to be committed to finding homes for the cats. They need human families,
Hello everyone,
I really hope this email works. I have been a part of this community for
awhile but don't often respond. I did, however, want to share this with
you.
I have had two cats die from severe anemia and bone marrow suppression
associated from felv+. It is a common cause of death for
Never heard of them, but the place sure looks spiffy. And the price they
get to take a cat should more than cover its care and the upkeep on the
property. Now if I could get a few donations like that.
Heck, if I got any donations Ah, I would probably just spend it
foolishly on stuff
I wouldn't say having only 10 cats listed for adoption is necessarily
suspicious. It is - at least partly - a sanctuary and not an adoption
center. If I paid from five to ten thousand to get a cat in there, I would
probably expect he is going to stay for life, why else would I pay that kind

most sanctuaries are just that: they are sanctuaries, for unwanted cats, and
do NOT have active adoption programs. if the cats were easily adoptable,
well..
it's too easy to forget that sanctuaries are NOT shelter where the public is

That's really the bottom line. Someone has to visit the place in person.
If I paid that kind of money to surrender one of my cats, I would expect
whoever took the money would move heaven and earth to find the cat a real
home. I really expect that any remotely adoptable cat will at least be
As I recall, Angel Wings and Tiger Ranch looked pretty spiffy online too.
Gotta visit the place to really know for sure.

actually, almost NO ONE ever saw angel wings: people bringing cats there
were met off-property. i know many folks who brought cats there, and only
know of one person who was actually allowed to see the main property (of two

Hello Everyone!
Fellow FELV+ owner and advocate hoping to get some help for some

I heard about this group of kitties from The Cat Shack, a non-profit

Perhaps, it is just a different way of looking at a situation. If I paid
that kind of money to place my cat there I would expect them to move heaven
and earth to care for that cat for the rest of its life. That is, in fact,
just what people are doing and I think it would be a breach of contract
Jenny, thanks for this info. I am sorry to hear about your kitty.

Do you mind me asking the price of a shot? I'm thinking of trying this for my

The way I read it is they take in cats that are in dire straights and have made
provisions for FeLV's and FIV's. It looks to me like they ask for the large
donations if you have a pet for which you want them to take
over responsibility. I agree with Gary, that if people pay that amount for
