Dear Nina
Those signs that they're feeling a little better are so precious. (I know
how often I've longed for them and they never came again.) Praying that dear
little Gracie is able to give you many more of them--and it does sound like
that's perfectly possible.
love and hugs to you both, Kerry

Sending lots of healing vibes for Sebastian. I pray the
acupuncture--or the tests if you go that route--helps him. I think the fact he's
enjoying eating is a great sign---so often I've been desperate (in

Re: My ANGEL Sebastian

2005-09-19 Thread maimaipg

Before you decide to do anything, and if it is right for
you, find an animal communicator to talk to Sebastian.  I decided against
serious/surgical testing for Kitty.  Like you, I desperately want to know
what is wrong with her but chose to have her consulted.  I knew what I
would want done if it were me but that is not what I wanted to do with
her. She told a group of communicators that she did not want the tests and
did not want chemo (she put it much more bluntly--I'm not sure where she learned
some of the words but she was feral once).  The thought of losing her sent
me into a panic and still does but she explained that we fear death while cats
do not.  They know so much more than we do and accept so much more.  I
am NOT urging you to forgo the testing but I am urging you to push the
panic you feel aside long enough to ask him what he wants.  It is so very
hard to make the decision to ignore a vet's advise.  I was lucky.  My
personal vets and my alternative vet agreed with Kitty and not the
specialists.  I am confident that I made the right decision for her but I
do not know that is the right one for you and Sebastian.  And the right
decision for Sebastian may be the wrong decision for you.

May all of your angels and Sebastian's angels guide
you.

I have not written for so long because I feel that I have given up
hope.  Sebastian has not been doing very well.  He can no longer
walk and he relies on me to take him to the litter box and to feed him.
He still has a good appetite.  He seems so depressed now.  I am so
heart broken that I cry almost daily.  I am not strong enough to let him
go.  I feel that it isn't up to me to play god and that he will go when
he is ready.  He just keeps fighting.  He is so much braver than
me.  I took him to the Virginia Tech Veterinary hospital on August
1st.  They were wanting to run alot of tests.  The tests were very
risky, so I decided against them.  Now I feel that I have no choice and I
have to find out what is wrong with him and see if there is something that can
be done.  I don't know what I will do without him.  I am so scared
  of losing him.

Kerry,

Thanks for writing. Keep me posted on how things go
with the ones you are taking in. How many do you have
now? I'd love to hear about them.

I know with me I always try to find the leuk positive
kitties homes. Since I've been helping them, I
haven't had to give up and let the people euthanize
yet. I don't know if I could take knowing I failed
the kitty. So far I've always been able to find them
homes. I'm sure the time will come where I've
exhausted all my resources but for now I just keep on
praying I can save them. Luckily, my vet and some
people who have gotten
my name are the only ones that call me right now. The
shelters have been calling too lately as they have
heard I help the leuk positive ones. I fear that
eventually I'll get calls for more than I can help but
right now I've been able to keep up. Transport has
never been an issue. I don't think that is the case
for everybody though. I know lots of animals die
every day in shelters and stuff because people can't
get transports arranged. So sad I wish we could
save them all.

i've certainly never heard such a thing--i wonder if the theory is to
get their immune system, somehow, to mobilize against it?

i DO know of a number of positives who were regularly
vaccinated--because they'd never been TESTED in the first place.
the one i remember most clearly was diagnosed at 4, when she got
sick. so she'd had 4 doses of the vaccine by that point--i don't
really think it's fair to believe that the vaccination "gave" her
FeLV. she was a singleton kitten found out in the snow, so WAS an
outdoor baby

Dear
Hideyo, I am so so sorry on all counts -- that the two little ones are feeling
poorly and that you are having this awful hassle.
I'm
wondering---would it help if you had/be possible for your vets write
letters stating what a good and responsible pet guardian you are--(ie you are
not one of those out-of-control collector types which this guy may, in his
ignorance, have unilaterally decided). Your vets could also write that they
do not endorse the euthanization of FeLV and FIV cats that enjoy quality of
life. You can send the officer copies.

Could
you download supporting articles and attach them. Also, so you have anyone else
that can support you in standing up to this guy? Contacts at any local shelter
that could call you and say what a wonderful advocate you are and how
counter-productive it wd be for him to carry out his threat?

I'll
keep thinking and sending out zillions of positive thoughts that this is just a
temporary and short-lived problem, Hideyo---remember we're all here for you,
dear Hideyo--hugs, Kerry

I know it is horrible and I would be freaked out too, but I truly believe that if he purrs when you are near, eats, and even plays with string, he is not as bad of as many.  That is a lot of quality of life. Humans who lose the ability to walk also get depressed, but their life continues and they can get joy and satisfaction in the other things they are still able to do. It sounds like the same is true for Sebastian.  Is it just his hind legs? Have you looked into getting him a cart? Just thank god that Sebastian is a cat and not a horse, because he can still live, play, eat, and interact without getting up and walking around.

Jennifer,  only you can decide what is best for Sebastian.  If
there is any way you can at least get blood work done, I would encourage you to
do that.  You can learn a lot from that.

Sebastian will tell you what he wants.  Just sit with him, and let him
tell you.  Sometimes they want us to help them cross over and sometimes
they don't.  I had one who never told me he wanted help, and he crossed
over on his own.  The rest asked for help.  It was never easy to
realize that they were ready to leave, but if it's what they want, then I will
help them.

I am so scared
  of losing him.

  needed

  Dear friends, I need some
  advice!

One of the NJ FeLV cats will be coming
soon--possibly this Wed--to join my 2 remaining feral kitties (Mickie who's
got FeLV, and Momcat who has tested neg twice).
Mickey and Momcat live in my 2nd
  bedroom.

  I have 2 Qs--

  1.    d'you think
I need to introduce the new little guy slowly--I'd have to
keep him in my bedroom while I'm at work, which could mean he'll be on
his own for long stretches. :>( (It's such a long
time since I've had to introduce anyone---my brood all came as an existing
colony.)  Little new guy, by the way, is supposed to be people-friendly.
I'm hoping it will help bring my two round.
  Cherie, who does rescue---she's the
angel that took all the NJ cats-- said she didn't think I needed to
keep little new guy separate (like in a crate, the other option I
mentioned to her). But everything I read in the past says I should
  introduce them s-l-o-w-l-y.

  2.    D'you think I should
remove the negative cat, Momcat, from the room because otherwise she could
contract FeLV from the new cat if it were a different strain of FeLV. (I'm
very hazy on this stuff but I think I recall Sally in San Jose talking about
different strains.) Momcat's never been vaccinated for FeLV.  She's
still scared, and I really don't want to upset her further at this point. I
dream of integrating her woth my bunch one day. It will be awful trying to
catch her--much worse than the kittens and they were difficult
  enough.

All opinions much appreciated!! Thanks in

there are some needles much easier to use on kitties than others - so I

Ah, Kerry, what would I do without you and this group? Your caring and
encouraging message brought a smile to my face, thank you. I gave Grace

some subq fluids earlier, not as much as I wanted to, but the damn
needle kept slipping, so I stopped. I just didn't want to stick her a
third time. I know she knows I'm doing my best to help her, but she's
starting to act like my entering the room isn't a pleasure to her
anymore. I can take a lot of things, but that's really tough on me.
After the fluids, she did lap a tiny bit of goat's milk, (the first time

she's attempted to eat today), so that's a small blessing. I just
cooked up some salmon for her, but no go. The rest of the cats are
pretty thrilled with all the yummy left overs at least.
Doing my best to keep my chin up,
N

My two dear Kerrys,
Thank you for letting me know you're thinking of us. I've been assist
feeding the "chicken tonic" every hour, hour and a half. I'm also
following a holistic remedies plan set up by Darla that's keeping me
tapping little amber bottles all day long. Gracie still isn't eating on

her own, but she is showing more interest today. She even took a lap or

two when I put some ProPlan sardines and crab meat down in front of her
a little while ago. I can tell her stomach is bothering her, (not
surprising since she hasn't eaten on her own for a few days now), I'm
hoping it isn't something more than that. I did try using Cypro
transdermal for appetite stimulation, it didn't help. I also gave her a

dose of Reglan for her cramps, it didn't seem to help her discomfort.
Maybe I'll up the Slippery Elm I'm mixing in the chicken tonic.

I'm pleased to report she has started to perk up emotionally. She even
jumped from her chair onto the bed tonight while I was changing the
sheets. She wasn't able to 'help', (well, hinder, really), as much as
she usually does. All she could do was play 'lump 'o kitty' under the
sheet as I lifted it over her again and again. She couldn't pounce, and

didn't move, but I watched her face and she was attentive and engaged.
Tonight I'm hopeful again. Thank you for your well wishes and prayers,
Nina

I think you got all the

verrry s-l-o-w-l-y for both ends – for existing kitties and new kitties
–
We want to make sure

That’s said, I would
first put a new kitty in a separate room, and have her get used to you and the
smell of your house first - then, you might want to slowly introduce to your
kitties either through screen door between the rooms , and then, put a new kitty
in the crate in the rest of the rooms while you are home.. etc..… once the
damage is done, it’s very difficult to undo (speaking of my bitter experience)
--- as long as you take it slow, everything should go well –

I have not written for so long because I feel that I have given up hope.  Sebastian has not been doing very well.  He can no longer walk and he relies on me to take him to the litter box and to feed him.  He still has a good appetite.  He seems so depressed now.  I am so heart broken that I cry almost daily.  I am not strong enough to let him go.  I feel that it isn't up to me to play god and that he will go when he is ready.  He just keeps fighting.  He is so much braver than me.  I took him to the Virginia Tech Veterinary hospital on August 1st.  They were wanting to run alot of tests.  The tests were very risky, so I decided against them.  Now I feel that I have no choice and I have to find out what is wrong with him and see if there is something that can be done.  I don't know what I will do without him.  I am so scared of losing him.

I think that it is reasonable to feel like you should let him be, and let him live, especially since he still has a good appetite. Does he like attention?  I don't know if you were on the list in January, when my Simon, who ultimately died a month later, was so bad he was unable to walk, etc.  Everybody on the list, including me and the vets, thought he was dying.  Many people thought I should euthanize him. But even though he was not eating or anything, he purred when I pet him, so I just stayed with him.  Three days later, when I thought he would be dead within hours, steroids given days earlier kicked in and he improved to the point that he was running around the next day.  He had only one more month, but it was a good month.  I am glad that I did not euthanize him then.  You do not know what will happen.

However, I also think that you are right to rethink doing the tests now that he is in such bad shape.  I think it might be worth the risk.  But that is a tough call too.

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I have been there. There is nothing worse.

I have had great success with introductions..actually I am introducing
one right now.I keep the new one closed up for a day and take blanets out on
the new ones room for the others to smell...then day two I leave the door open
and let everyone meet (with me there of course) I do this 4 or five
timesthen day three, four I keep the door open ONLY when I am at home,
there is usually a lot of hissing but that is it by day five an I keep it open
at night when I can listen then by day six and seven they are pretty used to
each other, so the new one may hide but often enough one of the others has taken

Thanks, I am using the Feliway Spray, along w/ daily Rescue

I DO think it has helped, but this poor girl is so scared, after being
"tossed" out like garbage, w/ her babies, really, what can you expect??
And, she is still a baby herself, vet estimates her less than one year
old.
I'll just keep on trudging along. I guess "baby steps" are better than NO
progress, I need to remind myself to be thankful for the progress we have
made.
I just get a bit "overwhelmed", wishing I could do more.

With my distemper kittens, my holistic vet gave me basically the same
  recipe.
We started the kits out w/ colustrum w/ olive leaf extract, and now,
since the girls are doing so well, we have continued w/ the recipe, in
addition to sarting them on a "raw diet", basically lamb & brown
rice.We d/c'ed the colostrum, but continue w/ olive leaf.
My vet has me make the rice "wet", and collect the extra liquid, as a
brown rice water to be added to feedings.
Just thought I'd share also, since these 2 were literally on death's
door, and after losing 3 already, our hopes were not "high".
  Moonshade & Taylor are thriving
Taylor "doubling" her weight in the last month!!
Another 30 days isolation, spay after that & then the FUN begins.
  finding them GREAT homes!!!
It's been a hellish kitten season, SIGH.. It seems they NEVER get any
  better.
I still have the 2 little boys from the feral mom, looking for homes for
  them also...
Continuing my efforts w/ their mom, Charity, is a very slow progress. At
least she doesn't attack me anymore. I think I am gaining her trust, very
slowly. I don't know what to do with her
I see she looks "sad" being crated, but I am afraid to release her just
yet. (Still not comfortable w/ that idea...traffic in this town is HORRIBLE,

Have you tried Fast Track? Another thing to add to the food--but,
especially when she starts eating on her own--it adds various probiotics and
should help with the stomach problems. You might check into baby
simethicone too. When I try to add too much "stuff" to Kitty's food, she
flat refuses any of it.

Good luck and many blessings.

Nina
