I just found this list after doing a little on line reading. I joined this
list to learn more about the issues surrounding caring for a Feline Leukemia
positive cat. Here's our story:

In your case, if the
pancreatitis is still going, the trick is to feed something that won't
irritate the pancreas. Slippery slope, but doable.
Do you have any suggestions as to what that might
When I first took General to the vet I use now, the vet started him on
interferon, liquid, 7 days on and 7 days off. I did that for a long time but
he's been having all these tummy problems, it seems that when I give it to him
now he vomits that day.
Are you folks on interferon?
Do I need to be worried? He seemed fine this morning, but he didn't eat.
He's spent the day in the living room, but not curled on the heat vent like he
has done in the past. When he's been feeling bad before he curls up on the
heat vent. He's not been very social today but he isn't doing
He is eating, he just doesn't seem to want his canned food.? I swear he's like
my son was when he was little.? He got sick after eating a grilled cheese
sandwich once and to this day he won't eat grilled cheese.? General was eating
canned food and loving it when he had an attack of what we
he hasn't eaten again today. he was eating fine the last few days, but today
he didn't eat and he's staying in his bed and really isn't communicating with
anyone, and this is a social cat. His little nose and his ears are warm. No
jaundice of his eyes or gums that I can see. He was sneezing
he has only failed to eat today. He was eating fine yesterday.
He perked up a little just in the last 10 minutes, came over and made
biscuits on my tummy and nowhe's taking a bath in the recliner :-)

Well, he ate the broth of the canned chicken I had (regular people Tyson
white meat canned chicken) and then he ate 3 or 4 bites of the actual meat.
morning he's done the same thing. No cat food but he'll drink that broth and
eat some of the meat. He's much perkier today and as far as
This is just canned chicken, not broth, and the can says 100% canned chicken.
It doesn't say anything about any spices.

I just won't give it to him any more. It's Tyson canned chicken breast.

It's ok, I'm not going to give it to him anymore. Sorry guys, I didn't mean
to create a fuss or this much discussion! I know I've done wrong now. I won't
do it again.

He's eating but now he seems to be throwing up what he eats. he has no fever
and he acts normal. Has been fever free and acting normal for the last couple
of days. The not eating and the fever was just one day. But I gave him Meow
mix wet the last few days and he threw it up twice. I just

AT WHAT AGE DID YOUR CAT BECOME FeLV POSITIVE? WHAT TREATMENTS DID YOU

he General sounds like a fabulous cat. It is great that he persisted.
Are you using l-lycine as a supplement?
Thanks, he is a really special guy. He's won all of us non-cat people
in the family over (except the dog, and she still hate him). I know of

The one I use is a powder, bought from my vet, that I sprinkle on food.

Mine also like Viralys which is a flavored powder and about 3 times as
expensive as the pills.
That's the one I'm using. From the vet.

I never had a cat until the General came to live with me. I named him for a
cat in the John Wayne movie True Grit. Mattie Ross says to Rooster Cogburn
where are you located? I volunteer at a humane shelter in Tennessee and
unfortunately their current policy is to euthanize any cats that come in and
positive. I am trying to change their thinking :-)

The shelter where I volunteer is a no kill shelter unless the cat tests
positive for Feline Leukemia or Feline Aids. If they do, they are immediately
euthanized. That day. ?? What I'd like to do is to convince them to give me a
few days to see if I can find anyone who will adopt these cats

I agree 100% with Anita, we live in a world where more and more
people become less responsible, less humane and less caring about
anything *but* themselves. Until that changes nothing else will.
Do they hold and re-test? Cats with FIV can live a normal lifespan.
nope. Cats with FeLV+ can live a normal lifespan altho' I realize it isn't
common. But they don't retest. They test once and that's it.
From: Stray Cat Alliance
The cats in the shelter where I volunteer are not feral.? They are/were
someone's pets, at least they appear to have been around humans during the time
as kittens when they adapt to human interaction.? Some were dropped, and some
are brought in.? But if the cat is FeLV+ the shelter won't
My guy is a very big (15.5 lb) FeLV+. he's supposed to be taking interferon
on a week and off a week. It has gotten to the point that now after about 3
days on, he seems to feel bad, he curls up and won't leave the bed all day and
won't eat. I stop the interferon and he's good to go again
My Miniature Schnauzer has a host of things wrong with her.? She's on Vetricine
to boost her immune system.? Since General won't eat his food with the immune
support stuff in it I've been sprinkling Vetricine on it along with his lysine
and he loves it.? Apparently vetricine tastes better than
can you guys tell me that there is a chance finley could still fight this
I can tell you that my guy came in as a stray 2 years ago weighing 10 lbs and
being tested as positive.? he's in the house, he weighs 15.5 lbs and he's doing
great.? He gets some runny eyes and sneezes
1 cc a day for 7 days and then off for 7 days.? he weighs 15.5 lbs.? After
about 3 days he'd get punky and just not feel well, stay in the bedroom and not
eat and/or throw up.
Just wondering - How much of a daily dose of interferon did you give him??
all I know is that my vet gave me a little vial with an eye dropper. From
that I draw out 1 cc and squirt it in his mouth. The vial is small, and is
only marked interferon on the label.

If it were making one
of my cats sick, I'd probably just lower the dose, but that's just a
gut reaction. Might discuss it with the vet, of course, or research
it a bit.

HAS anyone done a CBC? I'm wondering if his red blood cell count is down,
which might account for the shortness of breath since they carry oxygen.
Pale gums can be a sign of low red blood cells.
I'm not a vet, I've just got a dog with low red and white cells from a tick
I'm certainly not a vet, so maybe this is overkill, but I'm very cautious
about carrying disease/germs etc. when I come back from the shelter (I
volunteer there) I am afraid, not that I'll infect anyone there, but that my
FeLV+ boy will pick up some germ from there. So I don't take him there
I can't tell you much about the seperation part as I only have the one cat,
and have never had one before this one. I just want to put in my 2 cents
for the idea that FeLv+ cats can live very happy lives. I have one that I've
had for 2 years. he may get sick tomorrow, and he has been sick
It's time for the General's yearly checkup. I've had him for 2 years. He's
had a rabies shot and a calici virus shot and FVRCP booster when I got him
and then the next year as well. I'm not a big vaccination person, I no
longer allow my dog to be vaccinated. This cat was a stray, and he is
