One possible view on this would be to attempt to provide a chord symbol that
starts to approach a specific voicing, which a polychord attempts to achieve.
Kind of like writing Bb/G instead of Gm7. This tries to have a triad over an
alternate bass note instead of some hooved-animal player
The selections you’re looking for is in the Chord Definition dialog. Select
Alternate Bass in the middle of the dialog and underneath that a popup menu
will then be available. Select Under Root. Don’t worry that Finale calls it
an alternate bass; it’s semantics.

You could do it a couple of ways Martin. Set up numbers as articulations or
expressions and then program the metatools for the appropriate number. I do
this all the time for fingering in students’ pieces. If horizontal alignment
is important, I would use expressions over articulations.

I installed the demo version of Finale, since MM said it’s fully functional for
30 days.
I opened an opera file that has been causing distress lately. A big file,
7.5mb for Finale, nearly 1400 measures, orchestra and about 24 vocal

This may answer your question and help. I go back in forth between the two
view frequently when adding cue notes to a score. What I do in either view is
simply hilight the measure stack by Cmd-Clicking on a measure. Then I hit
Cmd-E to switch views. It goes right to the higlighted measures.
You could use the Move Rests plugin, which is especially helpful if you have a
large range of measure to move rests in. I use it all the time.
