Thanks John - tried that. I even found the email from when I last had this
problem - the solution then was what I've just tried and it doesn't seem to
work any more. I've given up.

Sorry, I neglected to say that I want to change the file that opens with
the setup wizard. I've changed the default file and that works with the
"new" from default but not with the wizard.

I've had this problem before when I last had to re-install Finale but I
can't remember how I did it, nor can I find the old emails telling me how
to do it.

Owner Henry Howey fixed the problem with my posts being delayed - I
had signed on with an ancient email address that just expired.

I would appreciate any suggestions regarding GPO, though.

===

I don't know why my message was rejected for a few days! Anyway,
installing 2012 fixed it. I had avoided 2012 after some initial problems
with GPO, but now GPO is not working with either version so it's a wash.
Any help with paths, etc to get GPO working would be appreciated. WinFin
2012 - I have full GPO, jazz and band, none show up anywhere.

Since 10.4 is a the first version of OS X that runs on Power PC, as long as the
Mac is running Intel it probably will work. If the Mac is not running an Intel
chip, like it is running a G5 or something, it won't run. I believe Finale 2012

often this clef disappears, and the notes appear correctly and awkwardly in the
treble clef. Has anyone else had this problem? Could it possibly have something

I think it is essentially the same on both Mac and Windows

To solve problem 2, in the Speedy Entry menu, uncheck the
Fill Measure With Rests option.

Problem 1 has always worked as it used to for you, in speedy

the note entry cursor is on the quarter note when you hit

You don't say what entry method you're using. And I no longer have 2004
around, but in 2007 and later this still works in Speedy Entry.

Depending on what entry method you're using, look at Simple | Options or
Speedy | Options. Uncheck 'Fill with rests at end of measure'.

Believe it or not - the Blue Triangle appears because you have Internet

Well, given that using EDUs works without having to define two time
sigs, I don't know why you'd spend the time on an unneeded
workaround. Secondly, my understanding was that display as 6/8+4/4
was a requirement (though I could be wrong on that).

You might need to get the drivers, uninstall it, then reinstall it. I've
had to do that sometimes with my M-Audio stuff.

They are appreciated.  One question, though:  How does a student learn

In Windows in Speedy, with caps lock on, to produce a rest: hit a three

Sounds like the settings for one of the brackets (I'm guessing the piano
brace) is messed up in document options. You could try loading a
document options library in a *copy* of the file (this will blow away
any customizations you've made to doc opts...) and see if it clears it
up...

I just got off of the phone with Finale Tech support. They were very
helpful, but had never seen this problem before in WinFin2006c
(http://gruversm.com/bluescreen.jpg) . By the way, this happens when I
open any multi-stave file from the Finale Showcase.

He had me take the 'selection tool' and try to click on the blue across
the screen. It was selectable as some sort of "Staff bracket/group".
With it selected, I was able to delete the Blue mess on the screen and
everything was fine.

Has anyone else experienced this bug?

It's been years since I posted last, my technical deficiencies have induced
me to revisit. I recently purchased a M-Audio Oxygen 8 to use as to enter
music into Finale. I seem to have a latency problem. Using hyperscribe I'm
trying to record a line of music in 6/8 time into a treble staff. Countoff
is two dotted-quarters per bar.I'm starting bang on the beat but it is
'realized' in finale as beginning on the second eight note of the measure.
I've tried adjusting human playback preferences 'anticipate continuous data'
with values from 0 to 200 but that doesn't seem make a difference. Human
playback style is set to none.

I'm at a loss, any help would be appreciated.

I almost always use page view to enter everything. I don't use multiple
page view, but I would if it were more functional. I can think of ways it
could be very useful.

Very simply, it would be great if in multiple page view one could mouse
click on any visible page and have that page become the active page.

Also, it would be great to be able to drag measures from one page to
another.

I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem that this functionality would be
difficult to acheive.

And I'm not wishing for Finale's failure. I want it to succeed.

And that's precisely why I think people should withhold their upgrade
dollars if they don't think they are going to get something that's
worth paying for.

As to Sibelius, I tried the demo. It's very difficult, given the
inability to save a file, to tell from the demo how usable Sibelius
is or not. One can't really tell what it's like to work on it on a
project of any length. What I did find was that in comparison to
Finale, the step time entry is very, very poor (it reacts much too
slowly to be fast), but that it wouldn't be disastrous.

I also didn't much like the UI, but part of it is that the demo
doesn't come with sufficient documentation to explain how to do much
of anything. If you like the default results, well, you'll be happy.
I *hated* the default layout, for the same reason I hate Finale's
default templates -- everything is much, much too large. I was never
able to figure out after entry was done how to reduce the size of
systems.

But I don't feel like I've gotten much of a feel for Sibelius. I
really don't think the Sibelius demo is very good at all in helping a
user understand what it does and doesn't do. It would be much better
if it would limit you to saving a single page, rather than allowing
you to save nothing at all.

So, I'm not jumping ship.

But it wasn't the horrid experience I was expecting. Aside from size,
I thought the default layout settings were just fine and dandy. And I
really think the idea of house styles is first-rate.

All that said, the Finale programmers' feet need to be held to the
fire. And the threat of not purchasing an upgrade is the only real
leverage any individual user has.

That's certainly true of my own objections -- I've seen Fin2004 running

MacFin2004 on comparable hardware. It's like the bad old days of

And as far as I know, many of the most egregious Fin2004 bugs (like
the new and improved Text Tool bug) don't affect the Windows version.
If I owned a Windows machine as well as a Mac, I'd probably do all my

At any rate, as for Hal's (tongue-in-cheek, I'm sure) "spies"
