One potential source of problems under Fink is if one is using a
non-default build directory without the .build in its name to hide it
from Spotlight (that's why the the default option is
/sw/src/fink.build), though fink configure will warn you if you try to

include a revision number in the filename--maybe the first package

few months ago, a bootstrap on a fresh 10.8.5 install had me go to
Oracle's website instead.
