Hi again, I got a good deal on the last edition of the G5 quadcore and it seems solid. The only thing I'm puzzled about is lately it won't react to the Alt command when starting up. Normally you get the choice of startup disks available but now the G5 just ignores the Alt key and starts from

Thank you Jason for your comment. I avoided the liquid cooled G5s and found a great deal, about 200 bucks (155 €) for 3 G5s and 3 Cinema displays plus 1 Cinema display power supply. One of them is a humble 1.8 G5 so I will have a scanning station because that one still can use normal PCI cards

The boot drive definitely has issues. I was able to get the few files I actively use off, and at this point I am running off the original (!) 120gb internal drive and a thumb drive for my data. I was still having boot issues though when I had both 500gb drives plugged in. I had bought an SATA

Well, it turns out that the replacement internal FW module does work after all...unfortunately I only discovered this *after* I had ordered a TI-chipset FW 400 card and thought that wasn't working either. It turns out that my testing was at fault. (Note to self: test FW devices with something

If the OP wants to confirm this, disconnect the HDD, power and data and boot. It SHOULD come up with the “I want a disk” screen. If it shuts down, it certainly isn’t the HDD. A lot of simple debugging can be done by disconnecting things. Minimum for a test is video, power and one bank of

It actually took awhile to reboot it, as my Panther drive fell off the machine too. I had to run out and buy a mouse to make things easier to work with. I had forgotten that in 2013 I added an SATA card to the machine along with 2 new drives. I unplugged and reseated everything this morning. I
