Hello,
I would like to know what are spoilers for and why they are written in its own
line. Could someone tell me the difference between a spoiler and a cheat?

A spoiler, written with one letter per line, is the answer to someone's
problem while playing a game that they cannot solve or get past, such as how
to defeat a particular monster or how to get through a certain area of a
game. A cheat is, in my mind, illegal, but is something along the lines
Could you send me an example of how a spoiler works? I still do not get how it
can answer a question. Like,

Does that mean you have to press space or what.

Hi Castaneda,
The tradition of spelling out spoiler space is from the sighted who can read
a whole screen of text at a glance.
The reason to put one letter per line is so that they would have to use the
scroll button to see the answer to a puzzle rather than reading it by
mistake.
For example
On the entombed list where there does need to be a spoiler policy for
obvious reasons, the guidelines only say that people write something to do
with spoilers at the top of each message, in fact some spoiler warnings
we've had have been deeply creative ;D.
beware the grue!
Dark.

Oh I get it! It is lik something to cover up visual reading? You hide the
answer beneath the vertical letters? Ok. Could you make the spoiler longer, like
what are the coordinates to the red door to get to the elevator in story 4 of
TechnoShock?

There really is litle or no point using vertical letters like that on a list
where most people use screen readers, in fact I find reading s p o i l
etc quite annoying.
for myself, just a one line warning to give people chance to stop their
reading seems sufficient, for instance:

Hi Alfredo,
Spoilers are solutions to puzzles or game elements that someone can't
figure out on his/her own. Giving them an exact solution to the puzzle
is what is known as a spoiler because it spoils the surprise of
solving the puzzle yourself.
The reason it is written with each letter on one
Hi Dark,
I agree. On a listlike this where people use screen readers more often
than not doing it the triditional way is kind of pointless. However, I
guess it comes down to the fact it is simply tridition more than
anything else.

Hi Alfredo,
Basicly, yes. It just hides the answer from the sighted gamer forcing
them to scroll down to view the answer. However, after the spoiler
space there is no need to spell anything else out. In fact, doing so
will probibly have people screaming at you for making it too difficult
to read.
Hi Hayden,
I believe Ben is talking about one of the very first previews/trailers
of the game where I had hired another musician to do the music. The
music was awesome, but he was also to expensive to use for the entire
game. As a result I found someone cheaper and equally skilled for the
game
Hi Ben,
Hmmm...That depends on which trailer/preview you mean. I have made so
many changes to the game it is hard to keep things straight. However,
I am going to assume here that you are talking about the game's first
preview where I was considering hiring Pierre Langer, an independant
musician,
Some people have their screen readers set to read at such a fast pace that
they may not be able to silence the reading before the spoiler is given
after a very short warning. I like to put a bit more of a warning there to
give them time to silence speech if they don't want the spoiler to spoil
Hi Charles,
Um...Good point. I hadn't thought about that, but I do know of several
V.I. computer users that have Jaws or Window--Eyes cranked up to 450
to 500 words a minute. Double the average sighted reading rate, and I
admit when going through lots of mail I also usually crank speech rate
up to
I keep JAWS set at 45 percent, and at times have received an unwanted
spoilage.

Hi Charles,
I have hal set to 180, which serves me well enough. I'm told by some people
it'ws slightly fast, and in fact slowed it down a litle when i did one of my
podcasts involving extensive hal reading.
i could go faster, but I'm usually more concerned with the general sense of

Hi,
I forget who posts like this, but you do not! Need to put [Audyssey] in
your subjects. All this does is creates extraneous text for us to read. I am
sorry if I'm sounding picky here, but

Hi All,
As I have just recently beat SOD for the first time (aaa, sweet success) I
have two questions. Firstly, I'm confused on how the floors are layed out. I
would expect you to ascend through the mountain base, but then there are
openings in the floor in two levels. The other is concerning
Hi Dark,
Yes, pointing at Allen Thompson who is not on this list.

Hi Lori,
Cool idea, but Dr. Who isn't quite as popular over hear in the states
as it is over in the U.K. Besides that Dr. Who normally doesn't use
weapons, and gets out of a pinch by using his head and coming up with
something, well, sneeky and clever.
You will be exterminated.

Hi Hayden,
Actually, according to the game's official story you are descending
and not ascending through the mountain base. As I recall during the
mp3 Kelly reads you land your ship on top of the mountain, the landing
pad, and then descend into area 1 where you get locked in. You then
have to
Hi,
Thanks. We'll see when things get nearer to a final release date.

Hi Lori,
Very interesting. Unfortunately, hiring actors of any kind can get
expensive at times. Although, if I ever need someone like that I could
always look into it.
