[Audyssey] Aurifi

2011-01-02 Thread Lori Duncan
Hi I just listened to Liam's recording of Aurifi and am having the same trouble
with the tilt feature and bringing that sound into the middle and keeping it
there. There seems to be a certain ammount of lag or delay on the sound
moving, no matter how fast or slow I tilt, or sometimes the sound won't move in
the time I get, then the calming but anoying message Lets run through that
again comes at me and I'm ready to chuck my ipod out the window, or I would if
I didn't have such amazing stuff on it. It's the same with evading sounds, the
tilt thing seems to do it's own thing and not move in the same direction as I
do. I don't know what Liam did to sort it, but would very much like to know.

Re: [Audyssey] OT: changing file system on an external hard drive?

2011-01-02 Thread Trouble
Just so you know when you change a file system. The drive has to be
formatted in that system. So any files on the drive will be deleted.
The fat32 can be used on big drives but not recommended, because from
32gig past that you can do what is called ghosting the drive.
You can put all the files you want and they will be see able. Then if
drive goes down or unplugged. you may never see past the 32gig. The
file names will be there and folders, but will be errors when trying
to access those files.
You might want to google PSP and large drives. i think they do have a
way to support them.

At 06:39 PM 12/30/2010, you wrote:
I know I shouldn't ask here, but I need to put isos somewhere. I

the process. Putting it into fat-32 also doubles as a device for
storing stuff on my ps3... how does one do this? Again, sorry for
being off-topic. But I couldn't find another place to ask.

Re: [Audyssey] Happy New Years day sound from PCS

2011-01-02 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Thomas,
I would have had the Sarah game finished in November if everything had
worked out.
It all started out with the reducto spell. This spell breaks through walls
and bushes and mazes.
Well I couldn't allow you to break through the walls of the castle as the
walls are actually the edge of the level, but there should be a way to get
out of the castle with this spell.

So that got me creating a new level, the Hogwarts grounds.
Which has lots of creatures and objects to add as the sneek previews show.
What I didn't anticipate is that it would take me a few months to create
this level as I had to re-think the ending of the game and re-do the
Quidditch level extensively.

Then came problems with our back up drive.
I had been saving all the sounds and changes on this drive keeping the
latest version on my C drive.
So I had to get a second back up drive to make sure the first one didn't
quit on me.
This took lots of copying files and putting into folders as I wanted the new
back up to be more organized than the original one.
For example, on the first backup I have a games folder where all the game
downloads are kept.

The folder has hundreds of games as I like to keep different versions.
But for the new drive I have a games folder that has only the most recent
version of each game placed in folders named after the game company, such as
PCS and GMA and USA etc.
Then our furnace broke and we were without heat for a week at a time when
the temperature got very low.
We had repair men here four times to replace parts and finally fix the
thing. Meanwhile we had to run out and buy electric heaters to heat the
house. This disrupted game development for at least two weeks as I couldn't
be in the computer room while they were working on the furnace.
Next one of my close relatives was getting married near us so the buying of
cards presents, parties and eventually wedding ceremony took away valuable
game development time.
The same could be said for Christmas with relatives visiting and and the
buying of Christmas cards and gifts and so forth.
The last delay was when both my back up drives went down which was a week
ago and we are still waiting for our computer expert to stop by.
And just this past week David told me that he had a new version of the GMA
engine that would fix some Vista and Windows 7 problems.
It now does the panning of sounds similar to the way it did with Windows XP
which is the way I wanted them to pan, but he is still checking it out so
does not want me to release the new engine until he is done testing.

So as you can tell it has been a very frustrating few months.
Phil

[Audyssey] Very frustrated, please help!

2011-01-02 Thread Ryan Conroy
Hi,

This is like the third time I've written on this issue, but I'm not sure if my
messages are getting through or not. With that said, I figured I'd try one more
time.
I just downloaded all of the accessible games from Robert Betz, and I actually
bought two of them. I can not get them to run no matter what I do. When I click
on the icon in my start menu/desktop, nothing happens. Nothing at all. No
errors, nothing on the screen, and it just won't start. I've been at the
computer for two days trying to figure out why these won't start, and I'm
getting really annoyed. I'm running Windows 7 32 bit.
Another thing that is very frustrating is that I actually got them working for
a second. If I had just left things alone, they'd probably still be working,
but I had to go and mess with things. I learned my lesson. lol I think I
downloaded a runtime library that I needed for the games to work, but then they
stopped working.
Does anyone have any idea on what I can do? I really want to play these games,
and while I know there are other versions of Battleship for example, I really
would like the ones from Robert Betz.
Lastly, he has a new website. The address is below:
http://www.gamesforblind.com/default.htm
If anyone can get back to me with some help, anything, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Ryan

Re: [Audyssey] Very frustrated, please help!

2011-01-02 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Ryan,

First, I don't know if you are aware of this but Microsoft completely
dropped support for Visual Basic 6 and earlier in Windows 7. As a
result if you want to play the games like Robert's games, which were
written in Visual Basic 6, you have to install the full Visual Basic 6
runtime. You also need the Visual Basic 6 components for DirectX 8
which also do not ship with DirectX 9 and do not ship with the Visual
Basic runtime. The easiest way to get these components installed is to
install Jim Kitchen's Winkit setup program that givews you most of the
Windows 9x and XP backward compatibility libraries for Visual Basic.

Re: [Audyssey] Happy New Years day sound from PCS

2011-01-02 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Phil,

Smile. I was just teasing you, but thanks for the update anyway. That
sounds like my kind of bad luck. I too have had my share of bad luck
coming up when trying to get Mysteries of the Ancients out the door.
Believe it or not my projections was to release Mysteries of the
Ancients 1.0 this week, but that really got derailed with the
Christmas holidays, two weddings, and several other things that
reduced my free time to practically zilch left over for game
programming. Then, losing two months on trying to figure out why SFML
wasn't working didn't help things either. So I'm at least a month or
two behind schedule now. We are now looking at a March or April
release window.

Cheers!

 Hi Thomas,
I would have had the Sarah game finished in November if everything had
 Phil

 Hi,

This is like the third time I've written on this issue, but I'm not sure if
my messages are getting through or not. With that said, I figured I'd try
 one more time.
I just downloaded all of the accessible games from Robert Betz, and I
actually bought two of them. I can not get them to run no matter what I do.
When I click on the icon in my start menu/desktop, nothing happens. Nothing
at all. No errors, nothing on the screen, and it just won't start. I've been
at the computer for two days trying to figure out why these won't start, and
I'm getting really annoyed. I'm running Windows 7 32 bit.
Another thing that is very frustrating is that I actually got them working
for a second. If I had just left things alone, they'd probably still be
working, but I had to go and mess with things. I learned my lesson. lol I
think I downloaded a runtime library that I needed for the games to work,
 but then they stopped working.
Does anyone have any idea on what I can do? I really want to play these
games, and while I know there are other versions of Battleship for example,
I really would like the ones from Robert Betz.
Lastly, he has a new website. The address is below:
 http://www.gamesforblind.com/default.htm
If anyone can get back to me with some help, anything, I'd really appreciate
 it.
 Thanks,
 Ryan

[Audyssey] BGT Key_down and Key_Pressed Incompitability

2011-01-02 Thread Kai

greetings Philip et al.

For some reason, the Key_down and Key_pressed functions won't seem to work
together on my system. For example, many of the tutorials terminate the
example with left alt+f4, but whenever I hit that key combination, nothing
happens. I can change the function to just a key pressed event and it'll
work fine, but the key down event plus the key pressed event refuses to
cooperate. anyone else having this issue or a solution thereof?

Greetings Liam.

I actually just edited the function to look for a key pressed event with
escape. Was simpler than having a two-step check. I have JAWS set to sleep
with BGT.exe, so that shouldn't be an issue, but it persists with JAWS
completely unloaded. This is definitely a workable workaround, but I'm
curious if there's a solution to make this line actually work:

if((key_down(KEY_LMENU))(key_pressed(KEY_F4)))

Well. Personally I would not have jaws sleep in case you get errors. I
just did some testing. With jaws loaded. You can hold down the windows key
along with alt and it will work. Again. This is how jaws acts with direct
input. This is why in my games I am now adding I k j and l as alternate
navigational keys. It does not seem to effect letters.
