Newest problem... I restarted from scratch and after I see a message
stating "Switching to i586-pc-linux-gnu-3.2.2 compiler" it failed... saying
"!!! Couldn't download patch-2.5.4.tar.gz. Aborting."

I did checke out the control center under system notifications, it
doesn't say anything about "minimize window, maximize window, open
program, or close programs" these are the most annoying sounds. I'm
using KDE 3.1 if that makes a difference.

After searching the forums with the keyword 'qtopia', I came upon some information
to which I applied in the following steps:
1) Downloaded the rpm (qtopia-desktop-1.6.0-1.i386.rpm) from the trolltech website
2) Ran rpm2targz on it
3) untar'd it to /opt
4) ran test from command-line: /opt/Qtopia/b
As well as kmailrc you need to copy across the files from
.kde/share/apps/kmail
This will give you all of your folders, network settings, accounts an so on.

things (such as gnome) it will compile with it anyway -
despite what the USE variable says. The USE variable
comes into play when you're building things that don't
necessarily need something but you want to have it enabled
