and see if that already helps.
In that cases it should be shown by commands like

If not, check "dmesg" output if there are USB troubles when the camera

Is there software that remote controls the device on Windows?
Can you post "lsusb" output in the capture mode (when it switches out of USB
Mass Storage mode)?
Basically the protocol would need to be implemented if the device supports it.

It is weird, the other commands do not seem to see the camera. Is it switched
on at that time?
Note that remote capture over USB is not supported in the current Powershot
firmware.
