I gave up subscribing in digest mode for all my mailing lists for the reason you cited. Instead I opt to receive the messages in real time and use the "message rules" of my mail program to move all list messages to their own Inbox-subfolder. It performs the same function because list messages

Unless you are using a nobody alias you could use one of the log analyzers to see what types of delivery failures you have. One thing I have been attempting to work on this last week was a better way to generate statistics for the server. Not having much luck though. Or is that not enough
