Give these steps a try to reset the start menu to factory defaults.
1. go to your desktop.
2. now tab until you hear Start button.
3. press the applications key
to create something using "note-pad" just nothing works as good as Excel (JMO)

when you dl something from IE, what I have to do is, press "alt N" then "alt
s" to get it started dl, it will automatically be placed in the "download"
folder that is the default unless you changed it.
