Re: [JAWS-Users] Internet Explorer or Jaws?

2017-12-14 Thread David Moore
Hi!
I have the same results. If you really need to use IE 11, you can use an
earlier version of JAWS. I use Google Chrome with JAWS 2018, and Windows 10,
and it works like a charm as well.
However, when I get my old computer out that has Windows 7 and JAWS 15, IE does
work like a charm.
If any of you would like my Google Chrome Browser tutorial, I can paste it into
a message and put it on here.
Even Edge works better with JAWS 2018 better than IE 11.
As we know, to use Firefox, version 57 does not work with JAWS hardly at all.
Take care, guys!

If memory serves, Jaws 14 was fine, and was using Windows 7 at the time.
Everything running smoothly, as I recall.

Turning off images in the Internet Explorer settings helps to a very small

I dont like the way things are going for us. firefox has decided blind

What can IE users do? Probably switch to a browser that is still being
fully
supported such as Edge, Chrome or Firefox. There are several web
components

that IT no longer even works with, or is very limited with when using such
as, silver light, direct ex, some flash content, not to mention the
security

gaps that are within IE.
IT is like holding on to windows 7 at this point. The longer one uses it,
the more issues they will experience. It takes companies such as JAWS,
sometimes more effort to update these programs than stay up to date with
the

latest changes that are much more relevant.

If you did that in the start menu search box you'd get nothing as you said.
You need to open the run box with windows key plus R. then type %appdata%
that would open the roaming folder for you.

Yo Brother from another Mother,

Once you unhide files & folders, highlight the AppData folder, press, Alt +
Enter, to open its properties, tab to, Hidden, & uncheck this box. Now, you
need to tab to Okay, press spacebar, & I believe tab to, Okay, again & press
enter to save your changes. Now this folder will always be accessible.
Remember to go back into folder options & hide your files & folders again.

Hi Kimsan,

Here's another way you can try:
1. Press the, Windows key + R, to open the Run dialogue.
2. Type a single period, ., , & press enter. This puts you in your Name
folder of the Users folder.
3. Press enter on, App Data, navigate to the, Roaming, folder, & press
enter.
4. Navigate to the, Freedom Scientific, folder press enter, press enter on
the, Jaws, option, & select the version of Jaws you want to access the ENU
folder of.
5. Select, Settings, press enter, spacebar / select, ENU, press enter, &
there you are right smak dab in the ENU folder... LOL
Note: The above steps are predicated upon the fact that the Windows 10
folder structure is the same as Windows 7.

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

To get into the ENU Folder where you would place third party scripts or
settings, do the following:

In Windows 10, go to the JAWS Utilities Menu.
Up arrow twice and you land on "Explore Utilities Folder".
Press enter and you will land in Windows Explore.
Here, you can press the letter "E" and move through various items. What you
want to get to is:
"Explore My Settings"
Press enter and you are in the location where you would add third party
scripts or settings.

In Windows 7, you can go through the start menu to the JAWS 2018 Program
Folder and in that folder, look for "Explore My Settings".

Eric

[JAWS-Users] Continuing Problem With navigating list of contacts in an e-mail group

2017-12-14 Thread Tom Behler
Hello, everyone.

I am continuing to have problems navigating the list of contacts within
several e-mail groups I have created.

This problem has emerged within the past few months, and I keep hoping that
the issue will be fixed with a new Jaws update.

Basically, as I try to navigate the list of contacts in an e-mail group, I
get stuck on the first entry, and cannot arrow down through the rest of the
list in the usual way.

If anyone has found a work-around for this issue, please let me know.

I'm using the latest build of Jaws 2018, Windows 7, and Outlook 2016 with
Office 365 here.

What can IE users do? Probably switch to a browser that is still being fully
supported such as Edge, Chrome or Firefox. There are several web components
that IT no longer even works with, or is very limited with when using such
as, silver light, direct ex, some flash content, not to mention the security
gaps that are within IE.
IT is like holding on to windows 7 at this point. The longer one uses it,
the more issues they will experience. It takes companies such as JAWS,
sometimes more effort to update these programs than stay up to date with the
latest changes that are much more relevant.

[JAWS-Users] Downloading in Google Chrome.

2017-12-14 Thread Judy Jones
Hello, Listers,

Again, I need another reminder. When wanting to download in Google Chrome.
With IE, you can press alt-N and have the choice of open or save. This
option is not available in Google Chrom per sae, but there must be another
way to get to any information bar like you would with alt-N in internet
explorer.

Thanks for the how-to reminder.

Hello again,

Revisiting an old question. Wit, it seems, most everyone noticing the
hangup of Internet Explorer at inopportune moments, is this due to the way
it is now interacting with Jaws? Is there a fix that the developers need to
buckle down and work on, or is this an uncooperative Microsoft issue? I

Re: [JAWS-Users] Internet Explorer or Jaws?

2017-12-14 Thread Nathaniel Kile
What can IE users do? Probably switch to a browser that is still being fully
supported such as Edge, Chrome or Firefox. There are several web components
that IT no longer even works with, or is very limited with when using such
as, silver light, direct ex, some flash content, not to mention the security
gaps that are within IE.
IT is like holding on to windows 7 at this point. The longer one uses it,
the more issues they will experience. It takes companies such as JAWS,
sometimes more effort to update these programs than stay up to date with the
latest changes that are much more relevant.

In Outlook 2010, hold down the alt key and press f to open the file manager.
Tab to add account and press enter. On the next screen, fill in your name,

If you did that in the start menu search box you'd get nothing as you said.
You need to open the run box with windows key plus R. then type %appdata%
that would open the roaming folder for you.

I did a jaws update yester both on 18 and 2018 and found that works if you give

Initially I have 3 issues two of them are in windows 10 mail app and one of

1.
It has the same bugg which was already addressed in JAWS 18 but with little bit
difference.
In JAWS 18 it was keep reading the same mail no matter what to do unless you
start JAWS or restart windows 10 mail app.
In this version if I press control+end key and then control+home key, it reads
the next email.
2.
If I reply or type with a new email, no matter what to do it doesn’t read
anything!
3.
If I check for update, it doesn’t do anything after asking permission of
changing app.

Hi

The appdata folder is hidden. To see it, you need to change your folder
options to show hidden files.

Eric

You might want to contact vfo on this one. It has been broke for some time

they are still working on a fix. Eric, any idea on when It will be fixed.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 2018 latest version and lowering audio Windows10
fall creator's update

Hello,
I am using the latest version of JAWS2018 on a Windows10 machine running the
fall creator's update (1709). Upon listening to a few YouTube videos
yesterday in Internet Explorer, I notice that the YouTube audio was not
lowered when JAWS was speaking despite the fact that this is checked in the
Settings Center under the default JAWS settings file. Is anyone else
experiencing this issue and have a solution? Is there something else that
should also be enabled for this to occur? I am using Eloquence as my voice.
Thank you in advance for any responses

Re: [JAWS-Users] Using Windows7 Pro, which version of jaws?

2017-12-14 Thread Andy Baracco
I am running Win 7 Pro and am using the latest version of JAWS with no
difficulties. As for JAWS Home vs. Pro, the software is identicle. The
difference has to do with whether or not you are using the software at home
or at work, and whether or not you have it installed on multiple machines.

When I retired I was able to convert my JAWS Pro license to JAWS home, thus
saving money on the cost of SMA updates.

Gera again; I have another question of I'm using Windows7 Pro currently,
thus i'm kind of worried that maybe the Jaws when I get the license, won't
be compatible because of the deal of Jaws Home, Jaws pro. How does this
work nowadays? Thanks for info.

Hi Dave,
Yes, that is correct. Look at it this way. Jaws 18 is last years Jaws and
Jaws 2018 it the newest Jaws. Jaws has changed the way they name Jaws
version this year. Next year Jaws will be Jaws 2019 when it comes out next
fall.

Re: [JAWS-Users] A Disturbing Issue

2017-12-14 Thread Inam Uddin
Initially I have 3 issues two of them are in windows 10 mail app and one of
them in checking for update.

Hah...you can still get copies of anything. Of course, some old DOS
programmes won't work anymore without some kind of emulation, but hey ...
people should use what they want to.

That said, Outlook Express might be vulnerable compared with newer
programmes. I used it until I retired my XP machine last March, myself, but
there's nothing wrong with Outlook, or Thunderbird, which are likely more
secure -- and with an e-mail programme, that is something to consider. I'm
also not sure Outlook Express will work with the IMAP type of e-mail

Eric

I just put focus in the "From" line and maximized the window. Same result.
But I should elaborate. I can get JAWS to go character by character through
parts of the "From" line in your message, such as "on behalf of," but as
soon as your name appears, this capability ceases. I can have your name
spelled out by pressing JAWS key+numpad 5, but I can't go character by

Again, I'm not overly worried about this. I only wanted to give Maria a

systems and that perhaps when I one day upgrade to Outlook 2016 I'll have
this function.

Hi,
I presume that you mean that the menu bar is hidden. To show the menu bar:
1. Press alt + M to press a menu button on the toolbar. A menu opens.
2. On the menu find "show menu bar" and press Enter. Note that if you find
"hide menu bar" rather than "show menu bar", then the menu bar is in fact
being shown, and there must be another problem.
I got my info from this

I don't have this version of windows live mail installed, so I can't do any
testing myself.

I've been researching since last Saturday on how to upload an audio to

the audio in order for it to be accepted. So, currently, I'm using
powerpoint to put the podcast and photo and save it as a video file in order
to upload it. What I don't like is after I save it as a WMV, the exporting
to video takes several hours. I have about 16 podcasts I need to upload to

So, with movie maker, I know this can be done as it relates to putting a

I presume that you mean that the menu bar is hidden. To show the menu bar:
1. Press alt + M to press a menu button on the toolbar. A menu opens.
2. On the menu find "show menu bar" and press Enter. Note that if you find

Let me add, that the dongle needs to be inserted into the USB port prior to
booting up the computer. Inserting it after will not allow JAWS to find the
authorization, resulting in JAWS running in 40-minute mode.

Welcome my good man to our little corner of the world.

Now I will try to answer both of your questions. First a dongle contains
your authorization for JAWS. The idea is that it stays connected to your
machine the entire time you are using it. Then if it is removed JAWS will
not be activated on that system and only run in 40 minute mode. Think of a
dongle as a portable license for JAWS that you can take with you. For
example to another computer to work on for a friend who is sited but has
JAWS on his or her system for when you need to use it.

JAWS pro or home will work on any version of windows, but if you own all of
your computers and do not work on any of them for another person and get
paid for your services then you most likely are qualified for JAWS home
which is far less expensive.

With luck I have helped you, if not just let me know what is not clear
enough for you.

Hi,
Ah, I think this is the first real-life example of secondary protection. In
other words, when a third-party antivirus program is installed and is
protecting your computer, Windows Defender will be turned off. Once the
subscription expires, Windows Defender will kick in until you renew your
third-party antivirus subscription. And yes, Windows Defender is free and is
a built-in antivirus program for Windows (starting from Windows 8.x).
Cheers,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Activating Jaws dongle?

2017-12-14 Thread David Ferrin

Hi,
Could you let us know which version of windows live mail you are using? To
do this, with windows live mail open, press insert + ctrl + v (assuming
you're using desktop layout). The only important bit is the number before
the point, which will be something like 12, 14, or 15.

thanks,

Hi,
I presume that you mean that the menu bar is hidden. To show the menu bar:
1. Press alt + M to press a menu button on the toolbar. A menu opens.
2. On the menu find "show menu bar" and press Enter. Note that if you find

Re: [JAWS-Users] Checking spelling with JAWS cursor

2017-12-14 Thread Adrian Spratt
David,

I just put focus in the "From" line and maximized the window. Same result. But
I should elaborate. I can get JAWS to go character by character through parts
of the "From" line in your message, such as "on behalf of," but as soon as your
name appears, this capability ceases. I can have your name spelled out by
pressing JAWS key+numpad 5, but I can't go character by character.

Again, I'm not overly worried about this. I only wanted to give Maria a
workaround. But it is curious. I'm glad to know that it works on many systems
and that perhaps when I one day upgrade to Outlook 2016 I'll have this function.

Hi, David. Yes, this works the way you describe, but it doesn't solve the
problem that you can't arrow through a name to check spelling. That's a problem
when you have the long "From" lines that come with list messages.

FYI, you can get directly into the "From" field by holding down the alt key and
pressing 1 above the letters twice quickly.

In Outlook, JAWS won't read info in the "From" field letter by letter.
Instead, set up a reply to the message and arrow down to the "From" line.
Then you'll be able to go letter by letter. Just be sure not to hit "Reply"!

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 2018 latest version and lowering audio Windows10 fall creator's update

that this is checked in the Settings Center under the default JAWS

to occur? I am using Eloquence as my voice.

Hi Adrian;
well, I just entered on your message,
did a shift+tab until I got to the from line, now, route jaws to pc, and was
able to either ctrl+lef or right, or, able to read character by character.

Hi, David. Yes, this works the way you describe, but it doesn't solve the
problem that you can't arrow through a name to check spelling. That's a
problem when you have the long "From" lines that come with list messages.

FYI, you can get directly into the "From" field by holding down the alt key
and pressing 1 above the letters twice quickly.

hello;
in outlook;

1, enter on the message in which you wish to find out the sender's name to
spell,

2, shift+tab to the from line,
make sure the name/email is highlighted, now use the insert+numpad5 pressed
twice quickly.
works for me all the time.

In Outlook, JAWS won't read info in the "From" field letter by letter.
Instead, set up a reply to the message and arrow down to the "From" line.
Then you'll be able to go letter by letter. Just be sure not to hit "Reply"!

For sometime now I have not been able to use my JAWS cursor to check
spelling. Example, I'm trying to check the spelling of Eric Damery's last
name on the from field in a message. When I route JAWS cursor to pc cursor,
JAWS just says blank. What's up with that? I'm using Thunderbird and JAWS
2018.

Re: [JAWS-Users] unhide wlm toolbar

2017-12-14 Thread David Bailes
Hi,
I presume that you mean that the menu bar is hidden.
I got my info from this page:
http://www.freeemailtutorials.com/windowsLiveMail/optionsAndSettings/hideOrShowMenuBarClassicMenusInWindowsLiveMail.php

I don't have this version of windows live mail installed, so I can't do any
testing myself.

David.

I have a very old version of wlm on my desktop, with jaws 17, and when I tried

do I fix this problem

Hi,
Ah, I think this is the first real-life example of secondary protection. In
other words, when a third-party antivirus program is installed and is
protecting your computer, Windows Defender will be turned off. Once the
subscription expires, Windows Defender will kick in until you renew your
third-party antivirus subscription. And yes, Windows Defender is free and is
a built-in antivirus program for Windows (starting from Windows 8.x).
Cheers,
Joseph

So, windows defender is asking me to renew and wants me to pay for macafee.
Can anyone recommend an accessible anti virus spyware malware/protection?
Also, does windows 10 come with one naturally without having to renew?
Free is better, but this one which is asking me to renew is $59. So, is
there one cheaper?

Leo LePort has said many times on his radio show/podcast (The Tech Guy) that
he doesn't recommend any third party anti-virus programs because they are
rooted so deep in the OS and they have their own vulnerabilities.
