Last Thursday, 1st October, 2020, one of our favourite German lacemakers,
Marianne Stang, passed away. I am sure that there are many lacemakers who
will have known her longer than the 15 years that I have, but I will miss

Some arachneans will remember a CD called Lost in TIme
which had a Flanders edging on the CD Cover a Honiton
leaf motif on the back cover, there was lace printed on the
CD itself.
Janice asked if there was any lacemaking in the book on
which the movie is based.
I read the book last year, thought it very well written.
I remember reading that Vermeer's older daughters were
sent outside, to sit on a bench make lace.
I'm looking forward to an opportunity of seeing it soon.

One thing I have to get somehow, is the 2005 Calendar. The theme is

As Helen Bell has already mentioned, there is the recipe in the Jones Deer
book which I prefer to use. Last year I made cookies instead of cakes.
So I'll post my cookie recipe as a variant to their recipe.
CATTERN COOKIES
Combine in a large bowl 1.25 cups of plain flour with 1/4 teaspoon of

Well, we have finally reached the shortest day or the longest night of the year
in the northern hemisphere. It seems strange that street-lights get turned off
around 8:30am the sun rises at 9am but doesn't climb over the hill near
our house until after 11am. We did get a snowfall on Sunday

what we call bobbins. pitsipulk is the Estonian word for a lace stick.

For those that want a light to pin to their pillow, get
a Itty Bitty Booklight. I asked for one for Christmas
several years ago, explained that I could use it to
read in bed, but also as a light for my lacemaking.
It can be plugged into an outlet (or power point) but

I was just wondering if other OIDFA members have received
the 2nd issue for 2005? I received the first one in February,
but I haven't seen #2 yet.
So I am asking myself: Is it late? Although the contents is listed
on the OIDFA web-page. Or did I just miss out because my
membership renewal didn't
I just received a reply from Sophie Robert saying that my renewal
had been paid after the general mailing of the Bulletin, but they had
run out of copies had to order a reprint. So I should be getting my

I signed onto Arachne in June '96, so I was among the 2nd wave.
I thought about Archduchess/duke as a title but that is too royal.
I looked in the dictionary found the word archangel which isn't
sexist either. It is also close to the word arachne. Made me think
of all those spiders who get sent

Here in Estonia, children look forward to St. Martin's Day (Nov. 10th)
St. Catherine's Day (Nov. 25th), when they go around to homes in the
neighbourhood, sing songs get small tokens of candy or fruit. Boys
girls dress up as men on St. Martin's Day as women on St. Catherine's

Has anyone had success in printing the patterns from the UK Lace Guild
Advent Calender?
If you have, what browser are you using?
I'm using Mozilla Firefox, and I'm just getting chicken scratchings. The
photo diagrams are not very clear but the instructions are illegible.

I just bought a copy of the newest Anna magazine at a local supermarket,
because it had some tatting patterns in it. The lesson is for needle
tatting also. And there are some filet crochet patterns.
I'm just so glad that Spring is finally here.
The lilacs are budding, but we need rain.
