TIP OF THE DAY (Legacy Staff) - Sources
The most frequent type of genealogy questions we get are questions about
sources and source citations (DNA is a close second). I wanted to give you
some resources that will help you understand this topic better.

I suspect that MicroSoft designed it for internal files relating to

I found the link below which provides a comprehensive discussion of the Excel
issues with dates and work arounds.
http://www.exceluser.com/formulas/earlydates.htm
I am sure there are other discussions and work arounds. This was just one of
the more comprehensive discussions that I found.
There is(or used to be) an Excel Add-on you can install for pre 1900
dates but in its raw form versions of Excel up to 2007 did not
understand dates before 1 Jan 1900. Dates were stored internally as the
number of days since 1 Jan 1900. If your Excel is working for dates
before 1 Jan 1900
Michele, your current tip contains the following: "Excel can't handle pre-1901
dates so you will have a problem sorting by columns."
Excel Does not have a problem with dates prior 1901. It can handle all formats
of dates. I have several spreadsheets with some having thousands of records

Background information - My uncle took a yDNA test at 111 markers. He has
two matches and they both match him at 110 markers and they match each other
