It will be a while before I have a spare $249. :( Have wondered about this. Windows offers a defrag tool which I used in versions prior to 7. So macOS has no such facility? I reckon I can do it someday and use Carbon Copy Cloner. From E.T.'s Keyboard... Without H2O there is no life!

I have replaced a standard with an SSD and it makes a huge difference in performance as well as voiceover. One important thing as well, remember as time passes on the mechanical hard drives the data becomes less and less contiguous. This is why reformatting and restoring once in a while makes

If there is a menu item that you use frequently that does not have a keyboard shortcut you can easily assign one in system preferences, in the shortcuts area. You do need to spell the shortcut exactly like it is in the menu in order for it to work, but this should be fairly easy with VoiceOVer.
