I've repeatedly been shocked by what VW owners will accept. People will live
with dead glow plugs (and attendant CEL) for months or years as long as the car
starts relatively well. Their cars belch smoke, start hard, slurp fuel and they

The shopping area down the road has a Cars and Coffee every few

I suspect that most lower end cars are not maintained the same as the
higher end cars. VW is lower (despite their attempts at up-scaling their
advertising) and Mercedes are upper end cars. There are VWs that have been

better than others so they can sell as family cars but they are still

The speedy lube place we use has a system where they unhook the trans at the
trans cooler and hook that to a tank which then pushes new fluid into the
system as the transmission pumps the old out. Seems to work pretty well, we had
it done a few times on the Dakota which went 222,000 on the

Just my personal opinion, but nobody hooks up a 'transmission flush' machine to
any car I own. I have no trust in those machines and less trust in the people
wielding them.
If I want to change the fluid without a TC drain plug, I do something I saw in a
factory Ford manual in the 1990s: Drain
