This is one of the largest financial disasters ever. Brought to us by the
elected fools who approved a law ages ago to allow the utilities to bill ahead
of and during construction to protect their revenue stream and basically take
no risk. Our electricity rates have gone up several times and we ratepayers
will continue to pay for this abandoned project for years to come. They are
all corrupt and criminals.

Re: [MBZ] The cath is done

2017-11-15 Thread Bob Rentfro via Mercedes
My little ordeal was a little different with similar results.
On July 25th, I️ woke up at 0100 with a ridiculous pain under my left shoulder
blade that was making my left arm numb and tingling and the numbness was
radiating up my neck. It hurt like hell. I️ wasn’t too worried since the source
of the pain, I️ felt, was back under my shoulder blade not in my chest. So I️
messed around all night trying to get comfortable and finally at 0400, I️ went
to the ER.
When I️ got to the ER and described my situation to the nurse, they started
fetchin’ and gettin’ and whisked me off thinking I️ was having a heart attack.
I️ assured them I️ was pretty sure it was not but they were unwavering say,””
“with a man your age, we have to make sure it’s not.
Long story short, I️ was admitted and spent all day getting every imaginable
test and scan while resting with an IV dripping something in that made the hurt
go away. The result was that my heart is in perfect condition. The cardiologist
was amazed. This, coupled with my nice BP and low resting heart rate she
wondered what I️ did. When I️ told her CrossFit, she told me a man my age
shouldn’t do CrossFit.
So, they 86ed me and within 15 minutes of the IV needle being pulled out, the
pai came charging back. Turns out it was a wicked pinched nerve somewhere in
the knitted muscles in my shoulder. A constricted nerve glide. Still recovering
from it. PT gal says it was not CF related.
And, in case anyone wonders, dry needling is awesome and it works.

I think taping the bolt in a gearwrench is the winner.

I did stick the bolt in a socket. I could get it in, but there was not
enough room to turn it. If there was enough room behind the bolt head,
the hose might work.

Greg Fiorentino via Mercedes

I wonder if a tight-fitting rubber hose would have enough grip on the
bolt head to get the thread started. I have used a piece of synthetic
rubber hose to start a nut on the inside firewall of my W123 to attach
a new brake booster. Worked well.

Best of luck, Kaleb. There are 2.7 MILLION! heart caths done each year in the
U.S. and problems are rare. They are the most common procedures done in
American hospitals. Statistically the biggest risk you will be taking is
driving to and from the hospital.
Just be sure and follow the doctors orders exactly after you go home as well as
in the hospital. If you don't you can have serious problems.

I just replaced the seal in the PS pump for the 81 240D. The kit had
the seal and 2 orings. I took off the pulley, pulled the old seal out
with a small screwdriver and a pick, and pushed in the new seal. Done.
Next time I'd do it on the vehicle, and not even take it off of the car.

The old seal had the rubber cracked radially around the shaft. Should
replaced it long ago but didn't think it could be so easy!

I didn't need to pull the shaft, so I didn't need the orings. The big
one is for the back plate.

Re: [MBZ] OT - Next Pistol Purchase

2017-11-15 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
Yup! When I was in HS, one of my friends knew a pair of brothers who
had a construction company and had 2 houses with a shared driveway.
Between the houses was what looked like a 2 car garage, but it was their
private trap club. They let us go there whenever we wanted to shoot
trap. We went so often that I had to start reloading 12 ga. It was a
blast.

Find a range that will rent the hardware to you.

I started when I was maybe 8 or 10 at the county fair. They had a
sideshow booth with winchester 98 or 06 pump 22 short only rifles. I
think they used cb caps. Then came marksmanship merit badge at the
Boy Scout camp using single shot bolt gummit rifles at 11. The skills
learned then still hold.

TRY IT! You'll LOVE IT! Shoulder, hand, or trap, skeet, or "sporting

So here is a thought to our anti-gun colleague:

Whether you would want to carry or own or use a gun, going to the
range and shooting can be very relaxing in an interesting way. When
you are shooting you need to clear your head of extraneous thoughts
and focus totally on what you are doing -- loading the weapon,
handling the weapon, aiming, holding, shooting, and adjusting as
necessary to hit your target. It becomes very "zen"-like as you
really do clear out all the nagging thoughts that stay with you as you
go about your business during the day. I find that I leave the range
with this very calm sense of things having focused for an hour or so
on that activity to the exclusion of everything else. If you go with
a friend you can compare your performance and guns and have some
comradery in that way too.

It is not particularly intimidating, though you might feel
"uncomfortable" around men and women who have some skills around use
of guns. You might also find out they are nice people and would do
anything for you, even if you wore your H-> or Feel the Bern shirt.

But YMMV though you might want to give it a try sometime, you might be
surprised that you actually have some fun and could (horrors!) enjoy it!

There is maybe 2" front to back. The bolt is 8 x 16, so most of an inch

6" up to the bolt hole.

I think Gerry is onto something here.
Can you stick it in a stubby GearWrench and wiggle the wrench while
pushing the bolt into the hole with your thumb?
Or can some sort of 1/4" drive power tool reach the hole and you only
have to hit the go button?

Hmmm, a 13 mm gear wrench might work. I might have to find one.

archer75--- via Mercedes
November 15, 2017 at 7:11 AM

I've used both an open and closed end wrench. I washed both the bolt
and the wrench with a strong solvent such as brake cleaner so there
would be no oil or grease, cut a piece of masking or similar sticky
tape to fit one side of the wrench, wrapping it down over the sides of
the wrench if possible, then stuck the bolt head in the open side and
stuck it firmly to the tape.
I hoped to get one thread caught, but if not, I would change the
position of the bolt head in the wrench and try again.
Nowadays I'd buy a "rachet end wrench" (I think I saw them at Lowes)
and try using them with the tape like above. I've had to grind end
wrenches down pretty thin to get into some tight places when I was
repairing hospital and lab equipment.

 I did a major upgrade/addition to my 1854 (with 1906 addition) house.
The contractor wanted to pull down all the plaster/lath so his electrician
could rewire existing rooms. Hell NO! As a compromise, he wired all the new
stuff and I replaced the existing knob and tube (plus a lot of old or
undersize Romex) with new Romex. Adding outlets, etc. in plaster/lath was a
pain so I only added two outlets to each upstairs bedroom; those rooms are
seldom used. If you haven't done it, there is a huge pile of cement chunks
inside those old walls from the initial scratch coat over the lath. My
builder/electrician installed a new breaker panel so I just left long Romex
ends for him to connect to the new CB box when he got to that point in the
job.
There have been numerous recent changes (like AFCI breakers) in the new
code so best review a recent book before any DIY work.
I also added a standby generator; while rewiring was the best time to
do that. My generator transfer switch feeds a 100 amp subpanel for
important loads.

Keep in mind that if you’re seriously stressed or have other medical issues it

Good report, except for the enlarged heart -- sounds a great deal like my
experience a couple years ago.

The echo cardiogram will tell all -- including thickened walls from chronic
high BP, viral damage (which was my problem), and any valve issues.

If you get a chance to watch (sometimes you do, sometimes you don't get to see
the screen), look for how the ventricles contract. Normal "ejection fraction"
-- the fraction of the blood actually pumped out each beat -- is 55% to 60%.
You should see the left ventricle "collapse in" on itself and squeeze the blood
out nicely, with the walls becoming convex toward the cavity. When I was
really sick, my left ventricle looked like a water balloon and wasn't
contracting very well at all, and was well above normal size. Everything else
was fine, and I had good turbulence, so no blood thinners.

Last time I was in, just about two years ago, all was back to near normal.

That's because you do your shooting at a "range". Bubba shoots in his (or
someone else's) backyard. He doesn't pay to go somewhere to shoot, just
steps out the back door. I don't consider myself "Bubba", but that's how I
shoot - step out the back door and shoot at the pile of 12" and larger logs
stacked three deep, with no one living on the other side.
I hear gunfire almost every day around here, once recently was most likely
a bump-stock. I haven't heard it this week, probably because he is saving
up for another case of ammo . . .

I’ve always had a fairly low resting pulse and blood pressure. Just had an
insurance company workup this morning and my resting pulse was 52 and my BP was

When I was younger I did a lot of biofeedback to keep my pulse rate down. It’s
worked well for me ever since. If I feel myself getting stressed I can get my

2017-11-15 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes
Question for the medically inclined members of the list:

Would a nuclear stress test have given similar information to what Kaleb
learned today, or is that for a different set of symptoms?

I'm thinking my stress test was probably less stressful than Kaleb's roto
rooter job, but if something was wrong, they could have fixed Kaleb during the
testing.

One odd thing about my nuclear stress test:
I took daily half hour walks in the four months between my first stress test
and the nuclear test. My pulse hit 176 in the initial test. At the start of the
treadmill session where they injected the dye, they told me that they'd take me
to the same stress level as in my original test. When we got to where they
halted my first test, my pulse was about 150, and I could talk at a
conversational level. "Hey, what are you shutting me down now for, I'm not even
beginning to feel stressed". Cardiologist swore that a pulse of 150 was plenty
stressful, and that the test conclusively showed no cardiac damage.
I'm still alive 2 years later, so I must be OK.

Just got home from the hospital. The dr said I have nice clear arteries with no
blockage at all. The stress test was a false positive. At least we know for
sure now. The symptoms were most likely from the high blood pressure. She did
say it appears my heart is enlarged but it could have been the dye making it
appear that way. I have a sonogram or whatever it is week after next to check

[MBZ] The cath is done

2017-11-15 Thread ROGER HALE via Mercedes
Kaleb,

I went through all of this last year only to be given a beta blocker to
use only when needed and some low dose blood pressure medicine. Some doctors
love tests. Stress causes all of us more problems than anything else. It
would seem that with your house issues, job move decisions, wife's wrecks, etc,
you've probably been under a lot of stress. Find a way to "hide" somewhere,
breath deep, close your eyes, and just relax. It will be cheaper and you'll
feel much better.

Glad your news was good,

Best Wishes,

Roger

Craig,

I was helping Larry with just this issue, and the FSM has a "survey"
section that describes all the engines and pumps. The section is 46-0002.
Between that and the model chart here (under MB Workshop Resources):

https://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/doclist.jsp

One can suss out which pumps from which cars are interchangeable.

Re: [MBZ] W124 Power Steering Pumps

We just went through this with Larry, who has a broken mounting ear on his
2.5's steering pump.

I found some used pumps on Car-Part.com for $25-100.

On 11/07/2017 3:12 PM, Meade Dillon via Mercedes wrote:

Larry, in the FSM procedure 46-0002 is the survey of power steering pumps
for 124 cars.

Your turbo OM602 should have either Vickers or ZF pump with a red label for
opening pressure of 110 +/- 5 bar (green label on a used pump will not be
the same spec, so I'd avoid those).

Other MB cars with the same pump / same pressure:
124 cars with M103, M104, OM603 turbo [so 1987 300D models], OM606
non-turbo [1995 E300 model], M119 LH(? left hand drive?)
129 cars with M103, M104 up to 06/93, M119 up to 09/92
202 cars with M104

I'm pretty sure some of the gasser engine pumps will have a remote
reservoir, so you may have to swap some parts from your pump onto those
pumps to make them work? If you can pick one up cheap, might be worth
experimenting. I would have tried that in a pinch, but I ended up finding
a good used pump from a gasser wagon that had the dual circuit feature.

[MBZ] W124 Power Steering Pumps

2017-11-15 Thread Craig via Mercedes
In looking for a replacement for the leaking pump on our '90 300D, I ran
across some information on the Internet that a '90 300E uses the same
power steering pump as a '90 300D.

Would someone who has access to the EPC please check this out?

Thank you,

Craig

Re: [MBZ] OT - Next Pistol Purchase

2017-11-15 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
While I firmly believe it’s up to every individual’s choice as to whether they
want to have guns or not, I will say…

I have really been impressed with the camaraderie and willingness to offer
assistance and guidance by everyone I’ve shot with or around. The outdoor
range I shoot at weekly has four RSOs (Range Security Officers), all of whom
know my name, know what I shoot, and either stand in back out of the way or
gladly step up if I have questions about what I’m doing. All are highly
trained instructors and several are former military. They’re all very
gracious, have never been critical (except for constructive purposes) and seem
just as happy to stay in the wings or step up and offer assistance when
requested.

Many of the sporting clays folks I’ve shot with or around are much the same way.

I was working on my sight weld by myself on the sporting clays range the other
day. My range has automated controllers that will throw clays for you with a
delay so you can shoot alone - you set the delays and just push the button. On
three different occasions I had shooters who were walking by my stand, two of
which were leaving for the day, who offered to pull the clays for me if I
needed. I never once asked for assistance or even saw a couple of them as they
walked by.

The stereotype of the crazed AK carrying redneck with his Budweiser and
trucker’s hat is really a joke. Of all the shooting folks I’ve been around, I
have never encountered any “bubbas”, and the few that might be close to that
were just as safety minded and gracious as the others….

Have you done any "ball and dummy" drills? Load a mag with some live rounds and
some snap caps. See what happens when the snap cap is in the chamber when you
pull the trigger. This reveals a lot of technique errors.

Also, not having your wrist joint in a direct line along the axis of the barrel
will flip your shots to the side.

Good point. I need to do the same with my shotguns, too.

I’m not aware of the front sight moving when I pull the trigger, but I’m
figuring it must as when I shoot from the bench I’m hitting my aiming points.
That’s why I’m thinking it’s a trigger issue. And BTW, I’ve got a package of

2017-11-15 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes

So here is a thought to our anti-gun colleague:

Whether you would want to carry or own or use a gun, going to the range
and shooting can be very relaxing in an interesting way. When you are
shooting you need to clear your head of extraneous thoughts and focus
totally on what you are doing -- loading the weapon, handling the
weapon, aiming, holding, shooting, and adjusting as necessary to hit
your target.  It becomes very "zen"-like as you really do clear out all
the nagging thoughts that stay with you as you go about your business
during the day. I find that I leave the range with this very calm sense
of things having focused for an hour or so on that activity to the
exclusion of everything else.  If you go with a friend you can compare
your performance and guns and have some comradery in that way too.

It is not particularly intimidating, though you might feel
"uncomfortable" around men and women who have some skills around use of
guns.  You might also find out they are nice people and would do
anything for you, even if you wore your H-> or Feel the Bern shirt.

But YMMV though you might want to give it a try sometime, you might be
surprised that you actually have some fun and could (horrors!) enjoy it!

I remember a while back, Kaleb posted a link to an old house for a possible
flip.  I am moving 60 miles to a new town and have decided to purchase an old
home that needs rehab.  A client of mine is a developer and one his employees
purchased a house a few months ago for a flip.  They had some personal
relationship problems and now have to get rid of the house.  The style is
called an American FourSquare.  They bought the house and replaced some
windows, did some minor repairs, redid a bathroom, and did paint work.  They
also demoed the kitchen down to the studs.   I am getting it for less than they
bought it.   But, it will need to have the entire house re-wired as it still
has knob and tube throughout.  We will need to add a bathroom (in a laundry
room where there is already plumbing), drywall the kitchen, add cabinets,
countertops, etc, and replace two exterior doors.   They were living in the
house (the bathroom is functional and just needs finish work.  They were
cooking in a microwave.  It should be a very interesting project!

pack a loaded pistol). I won the party prize for "most compelling" .Ka

Re: [MBZ] OT - Next Pistol Purchase

2017-11-15 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
I would always put the trigger in the middle of my trigger finger pad
(midway between finger tip and first joint). What I was taught was that a
group to the left of the bulls-eye probably means you're trigger finger is
too deep, and the trigger is either at or on the crease at the first
joint. However, there could be other variables (hand positions, trigger
pull smooth vs. jerking, anticipating the recoil and trying to compensate
with a muscle movement, breathing wrong, etc), and in the end (if the
sights are adjustable) you could simply adjust the sites to bring the group
back to the bulls-eye. It is more important to do exactly the same thing
every time you shoot, so your groups are as tight as possible, and then you
adjust the sites so that the group is hitting where you want it to hit.

Stop comparing how the pistol shoots when "benched" because that's not how
you're going to shoot all the time. Benching it and shooting has no value
because that's not how you will shoot the pistol "in real life". Learn
proper stance, hand positions, site alignment, trigger pull, and breathing,
get those all consistent with every shoot, and then adjust the sites and
you're done.

That is pretty pessimistic.
I do think that if one plans to do much of the work, then one needs to
enjoy doing that sort of thing.
We moved into a new house in 1981 and have been remodelling it ever
since. We wanted a house that looked old but were concerned about the
troubles that might be encountered in an old house.
In retrospect, an old house would have been fine - maybe even better
than a new house.

3. If you like the design of the house, take careful drawings of the
footprint of the house, then call in a demo company that has big equipment

Also, the new buyer will get qualified more quickly because the house will

Wiring the gutted rooms before finishing them is the easy part, as long as you
remember to get it done.
Wiring the lath and plaster rooms will take some planning. Consult a few pros,
and maybe find a pro forum, like an electricians' version of HVAC-Talk.com, and
consult the forum's collective knowledge for ideas on how best to proceed.
You might end up with external wiring under decorative conduit, but I hope
there is some reasonable way to run the wires inside the walls.

I'd just have them run new service from scratch. Keep using the existing wiring
until it's done, then move the utility feed over to the new breaker box. Don't
even waste time/money tearing the old wiring out.

Mitch.

I think it was considering the model. If it had been a “regular” R129 that
would have been too much. The Silver Arrow thing seems to be pretty desirable,
and there weren’t many of them made. That and it’s pretty much the last one of
that chassis that came off the line, so any kinks were ironed out a long, long

It is not speed that kills, it is differences in speed. Kind of like when
they say the fall won't kill you, it's the sudden stop at the end.

I think there used to be a statistic that said something like 90% of all
the road collisions happen to vehicles that are either in the top 10% of
the "normal" speed or in the bottom 10%. The lesson was don't be the
fastest car on the road, but don't be the slowest car either. Perhaps the
Pious drivers aren't in either group most of the time? Regardless, driving
slower than most drivers is making you a "hazard to navigation" which is
not a good place to be.

Add extra, properly breakered outlets and switches BEFORE you drywall the

sellers did make some immediate repairs when they bought it such as replacing

some of the lath and plaster in the dining room will have to be repaired. But,
the problems that HAD to be addressed immediately were done. They were living

through the process. I still have my house in Wichita so we don't have to move

2017-11-15 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Good point. I need to do the same with my shotguns, too.

I’m not aware of the front sight moving when I pull the trigger, but I’m
figuring it must as when I shoot from the bench I’m hitting my aiming points.
That’s why I’m thinking it’s a trigger issue. And BTW, I’ve got a package of
the diagnostic targets. Had them for a while, just didn’t need them (until
now.)

Thanks!

Dan

$15k is actually cheap for a 50kkm odometer and body panels you can't see

Dry fire practice. Maybe even take a video and observe your hand placement from
the sides. Does the front sight move when you pull the trigger?
