When I sold on Amazon a few years ago, they took 17-22% of my sales. So, I moved to my own freestanding websites. I've never been happier. And I'm getting ready to dump my bank cc processing and move it to PayPal which I already use for both some domestic and all international sales. On first review, it should save me several hundred dollars a year. Nothing is perfect, but some things are just bad. Best Wishes, Roger Roger Hale Dinnerware Classics, Inc. Careful with Paypal, they're commonly regarded as not nice people. There are lots of reports where somebody complains and they tie up ALL your money (not just the amount of the order) for some long period of time during which you have zero recourse. You need to ask yourself if those hassles are worth a couple hundred bucks a year. They are commonly referred to as an illegal bank. I have also been suggesting my customers use Paypal rather than CC service. I changed CC processors a couple of years ago to Authorize.net which charges a $160. fee/year for something called PCI compliance. It's basically me competing a questionaire telling them how I keep my customers' CC info secure. In my case the website has a secure shopping cart - if they use that i never see any CC numbers. My 3 year service agreement expires in March and I have made arrangement to use a different service. My provider also refuses to work with companies which sell firearms and related merchandise - which I disagree with on principle. I had not considered going 100% Paypal -- have your customers given any push-back for you wanting to use PayPal for everything? Seems like a good direction to me... Curt, My wife has dealt with PayPal for several years now with no ill affects. I understand the tie up money issue which is why you should transfer funds out of that account often. Actually I've had worse problems with Chase. I once had a special CC rate and they just removed it for a higher rate with no recourse on my part. There was an article somewhere I read about this, apparently a big part of today's scams is to find the absolute dumbest people around. As a scammer you don't want to waste a bunch of time setting up the scam only to have somebody back out at the last minute. Your mistake is acting like you have a brain. If you KNOW the numbers you're clearly screwing with them. People who are in trouble with credit card debt don't know how much trouble they're in. You need to keep some paper by the phone, crumple it and say geez I saw a credit card bill at some point, lemmie look. -Curt Date: Thu, 20 Feb 2014 17:01:52 -0600 From: Mountain Man maontin@gmail.com To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Subject: Re: [MBZ] slow day Message-ID: CALk3cy4gzDJnR7+U0L9DM6K1_CERjWK=_akxrq8qezflu6w...@mail.gmail.com Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Curt wrote: I only give them my credit card, they wanna screw with me its got to be through Chase... Larry, My customers could still use a credit card even if I switch to PayPal completely. It's just that the CC processing would point to PayPal and they would process the charges through to MC, VISA, Discover, etc. As far as the customer sees, they are just paying with a CC. Now if they select PayPal, then they know they will have to use their PayPal account. I only use PayPal for international because it's safer and removes the CC fees for international which can get high sometimes. PayPal also does not charge the PCI fee which BOA charged me last month. I don't handle my customer CCs either, but I still had to pay the fee and do the online certification. It's just another bank ripoff to me. I also use Authorize.net for the processing, but it's front ended by BOA in my case. I originally had ChasePaymentech and they sold me to First Data who in turn sold me to BOA...and none of them ever asked my permission, they just said they could do it. Re: [MBZ] slow day
Larry, As someone who works closely with PCI due to our organization accepting online CC payments I can assure you that the PCI fees were coming from the bank and are difficult to avoid. With all the CC fraud and theft that's going on, especially from things like the Target breach, the processors are circling the wagons big time to cover their butts. We're looking closely at a third party vendor for processing as it takes all that away from us. Costs more, but in the long run it's cheaper. I spend probably one day a week doing PCI related work on our internal system. And it's just one server that doesn't even do any processing - the data flows through it, which puts it in scope according to PCI standards. Many years ago mutual insurance companies, which are owned by the insured, were formed in order to avoid gouging by stock insurance companies. Since some of the premiums being quoted currently by health insurance companies are obvious gouging, mutual health insurance companies may be a well established model that would bring premiums down. Sometimes you just have to celebrate the checks and balances form of government. We can see it in action now. It allows no one part of the government to over power the other, and run rough shod over the governed. As long as they keep at each others necks, it is all good. When it implodes, then it can be built up clean and sparkly. Better fit and able to meet the real needs of the populace. Local liberal coverage is trying to place blame, but in reading the reporting of statement made by out states congress critters, they are far more entrenched in their positions than the right. Less willing to sacrifice their own pay to help their staffers, and have a giant sense of entitlement to suckle at the public teat, while those across the aisle are putting pay in escrow for their staff, or making a cut equivalent to the one taken by the rest of the federal employees. The thing that has me confused (and I am saying this from a totally neutral point of view) is how the Republicans can try to change something that has been voted into law? After all, the ACA passed both houses and was signed into law by the President. The only way to change or rescind the law would be through the legislative process. With this in mind, there is no way to short circuit a piece of legislation based on our current process. I realize that there have been numerous attempts to vote on repealing the ACA, but they have all failed to-date. Short of there being success in this manner, I see the current approach as being fundamentally flawed and totally inappropriate. The president has changed the law that Congress passed (barely, but that is another story) by postponing the employer mandate by 1 year. Congress said, Do this and the president decided to do something else. Not sure what consequences there are to that unilateral action (which is not really allowed) but there you go. Seems like the whole thing is just one giant mess. --R On 10/4/13 3:28 PM, Dan Penoff wrote: The thing that has me confused (and I am saying this from a totally neutral point of view) is how the Republicans can try to change something that has been voted into law? I actually read a version of the law before the one that had to be passed to find out what was in it. It was like 1200 pages long pdf, but it was widely spaced and not much on each page, so it went pretty fast. the thing that struck me about it was how much of it had very little to do with provision of health/medical care, and how much asserted that various commissions, boards, panels, etc. were to go off and figure it out, without a lot of guidance on what it actually was. A lot of it also related to other laws that needed to be changed, superseded, deleted, etc. to read differently in various provisions of those. So there was actually not much of anything in there that one could divine what was actually meant or intended. Most curious, but then I thought about it, and it became clearer. I questioned a local candidate for the state legislature, who was waxing enthusiastic about the PPACA, if he had actually read the law and understood it sufficiently to 1) be enthusiastic and 2) vote on things in the legislature regarding the law and whatever requirements it would impose on the state. His response was that no, he had not actually read it, and did not know anyone who had, at which point I said I did and he then said, Well, it is Obama's law, so I am all for it! This guy is a black democrat, which reflects most of our population in this district, so I sorta expected that, but was also disappointed he could not think for himself. He is a nice guy though, and seems to actually do stuff if you ask him, so I guess you can't get the whole package. --R On 10/4/13 4:22 PM, clay wrote: Something passed that nobody read. Not sure what consequences there are to that unilateral action (which is not really allowed) but there you go. Only one, that I know of: Impeachment, followed by replacement by the next guy in line, who's presumably more willing to execute the law as passed. Wash, rinse, repeat. That _is_ the feedback mechanism. The check, or balance. Whatever you want to call it. Congress needs no more justification than we want to to eject a president. But a lot of 'em have to want it bad, enough to risk their own later reprisals at the polls. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

No chance that this senate will impeach this president! Once they figure out they don't actually have to do what they're told, I predict a rather steep decline. 'Course, were _I_ Obama being called on the carpet on account of not implementing ACA (?) correctly, I'd just fix 'em with a gaze and say: Fine! Then _you_ explain it to me. I've tried reading it, but I got lost and then I fell asleep. I'm here, I'll even take notes. And next time give me something that is not pure crap to begin with. Sir. That, _also_, is never going to happen. Re: [MBZ] slow day
'Zackly what's so frustrating about what I have experienced personally, especially in B-52's, being reported erroneously and in a misleading and sensational manner by too many journalists or wannabe journalists who embellish the facts with what they imagine or may have seen in some fictitious movie such as Dr. Strangelove, Fail Safe and others. I've seen this happen not only with subjects relating to B-52's and the Air Force but other matters, as well, of which I have personal knowledge. Therefore, I've learned to take a lot of the stuff I read, see and hear in the news with a bag of salt, as Greg already said, and as I've been telling my friends at lunch for years. Another time, I read a personal interest story which included an interview of somebody I knew. I became pretty good at identifying the smell of horseshit. It is the taste that I'm particularly averse to. Wish I could say that about my niece's little dog. One night I let her out one last time before going to bed, and when I let her back in the room filled with the stench of horse feces. We gave her a bath, but the smell seemed undiminished. The stench which was filling my house was coming from the mouth of a 10lb Rat Terrier. Amazingly enough, holding her down and attacking her with a tooth brush and mint flavored toothpaste totally solved the problem.
