Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] 1985 cb650sc runs poorly at high rpm
Ok, heres what I have on my 700S. There are two hoses going into the cannister. One from the valve cover and the other from the top of the crankcase. A third hose goes from the cannister to the airbox. Pretty simple. By the way have you checked the air filter? If it is real dirty or oiled up it will starve the carbs of air and the engine will fade at higher RPMs. If the plugs are black and or sooty that could mean its starved for air and/or carb issues. Kiwi does that change anything you stated before about the hoses being run to and from the charcoal canister from everything I can tell it seems to be a California model but I can't see any designation of that nor can I find the Pcv valve I have the Haynes manual and it says the two hoses running out of the canister one goes to the Pcv valve which I can't seem to locate and one goes to the fuel tank for fuel vapor emissions etc. So the two going into the canister is one the crankcase breather and the other the valve cover ? Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] 1985 cb650sc runs poorly at high rpm
The color of the plugs will tell you alot. 16k miles is not much. If you can give the bike a compression test that would be good. The loop, for sake of a better word is just a metal ring through which the hose from the air box and the clear battery breather tube are channeled to the bottom outside of the bike. I cant think of an outlet/vent from the crankcase. Any vent would blow oil out. You cant have that. Gases are vented out the valve cover and the air box. It sounds like you have the CA canister which is between the valve cover tand the air box. , Feb 19, 2018 at 9:35 PMwrote: > I will check the plugs asap and get back to you I never took them out to > check yet > > Sean > > On Monday, February 19, 2018 at 5:31:21 PM UTC-8, kiwinPA wrote: > >> Easier to work with you but you're too far away. I had a vaguely similar problem and it turned out to be some vent openings in the top of the carb bowls. If you take apart to clean, check those, to. Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] 1985 cb650sc runs poorly at high rpm
The bike has 16k miles on it. I had the carbs complete apart and cleaned them up so I'm thinking it might be like you said the fuel levels are off because of how much jb weld I had to put in there to stop the leak. I will start by taking the hoses off and cleaning them etc. What do you mean when you said by a loop for it to run though? Does one of those hoses connect to the air box from the crankcase loop? I just found stuff out about that tonight. I think one of the hoses from the crankcase got in advertently bent or kinked because I have the classic case of oil leaking out of the shifter from blowing out the seal due to excess crankcase pressure. If you have another set of carbs I would love to buy them off of you. Thanks a lot for you knowledge I must have spend hours and hours tinkering with the bike all last summer trying to get it to be roadworthy overall not a bad bike and even in the state of disrepair it always starts up pretty much all original. Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] 1985 cb650sc runs poorly at high rpm
Easier to work with you but you're too far away. So a few questions. How many miles on the bike? Are the spark plugs sooted up, black, grey, white or what? Check them The carbs need taken apart and cleaned at least. As with the hoses. One from the cannister goes to the valve cover. The two overflow hoses are open ended, they hang down behind the carbs in front of the air box. There should be one running from the bottom of the crankcase down. It has a plug in it. Theres a loop for it to run through? That one is for junk, oil, moisture that accumulates in of the air-box. It needs to be drained now and then by removing the plug. Without it however, it shouldnt affect performance. Your poor performance is at least due to the carbs needing cleaning and if youve done some JB Welding in the bowls it sounds like the fuel levels are off. If you are interested in another set of carbs, let me know. I think i may have a set around here, Graham Mon, Feb 19, 2018 at 7:55 PMwrote: > new hampshire > > > On Monday, February 19, 2018 at 3:59:51 PM UTC-8, kiwinPA wrote: > >> >> Where are you? >> > >> On Mon, Feb 19, 2018 at 6:52 PM wrote: >> > Hello guys hope someone on here can help me. [Nighthawk Lovers] 1985 cb650sc runs poorly at high rpm
Hello guys hope someone on here can help me. I bought a 1985 honda cb650sc for 300 dollars last year that had been sitting on someone's lawn for three years. Bike started no problem when i got it home but leaked fuel profusely out of the bottom of the carb bowls. I took the bowls apart and fixed the leak but like a true amateur I forgot how the hoses were run. When i say hoses I mean all the hoses. Can anyone tell me beyond a reasonable doubt how they are all supposed to be run. Currently the hose that comes off the crankcase is run to the charcoal canister and that is about it. There is another spot of on the canister for another tube that is missing. Also there is a nipple on the bottom of the air box that doesn't have a hose run to it. As well as the overflow t's between the 1 and 2 carb and 3 and 4 are not run to anything. Ive looked up lots of information and seen pictures but nothing that definitively tells how they are run. I know these old bikes can be finicky and best left stock and that is how I would like to keep mine. Running the bike without touching anything and leaking carbs I could easily cruise at 80-100 mph now the bike gets up to about 60 mph and bogs out. Other than that I have no other issues starts easily warms up idles etc. Im thinking either I messed with important hoses or the large amount of jb weld I put in the float bowl housing to keep it from leaking disrupted the tune and it won't run right until I buy ones in better condition. Any help would be greatly appreciated I want to get the most out of the bike this upcoming riding season -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group.
