As an afterthought: You will hear a lot of folks
on this list talking about the manual focus feel
of autofocus lenses.
That's simply because sometimes AF isn't the
answer, your example is one of those times.
Manual focus would be the best solution.

Some have aspherical elements, etc.
However, thinking 11yr old and camera I instantly think
of the 90WR or 105WR.
Tough as nails, almost water/pop/mud/dirt/dust proof and

They are also rubber coated and easy to hold on
For a 11 years old a DC might make more sense since she won't have to worry
about processing fee (assuming she has PC at home), something like Powershot
A400. For film PS, Olympus Stylus Epic 35mm seems to be the logical choice.

all AF systems will have problems focussing on an even, bright, white
surface. Simply because it lacks contrast. If you're doing prefocus,
you can do it manually. If you need to use AF on the fly, then I don't

Why film? I took a small Sony U60 digital with me to Peru recently. It was
small, compact, and quick to use. Your 11 year old grand daughter is
probably proficient in the use of computers. This little Sony is great.

The CF-door:
The CF-card door is only a very small problem, althoug daily annoying. One
problem is that the card is turned the wrong way, so it's a little tricky to
get out. The card has no rim at the frint side, but at the back sidet. Other
manufacturers
For Manual Focus the viewfinder screen sucks. You can't really see if it's
sharp - you just wait for the red square to appear ar the green lamp and the
beep. So you might as weel just use AF. Better screens for the camera are
available, though - AFAIK.

time with my *istDs and never use the focus confirmation. I find the
