I tried to initialise slimnas in the last stable version of freenas (on HD) without succes. Everything was ok, but SqueezeCenter is not available. Please note that it might take a minute or more for the service to be available after a restart. Please refresh this page to check the status again. Did you try to connect a minute later again? As the message says (I will remove it - too much confusion...): startup might take a while. Try again. The logs are : Nothing serious in here. I seems that upnp is not configured on my winxp. Don't do it if you don't need it. I only asked because some UPnP servers have a port conflict with SC. Thanks Michael, I will try a fresh install and use default acounts. One question, while I created a new userid/group, I did not change any file permissions. Do you think the issue is the the files were created by a different user than the slimNAS uses to install the service and start the service? I can't say for sure. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] FreeNAS + SqueezeCenter 7.0
I've been trying to get SqueezeCenter working with slimnas, and this is what I've worked out so far... The slimnas functions.in refers to {$config['slimserver']['rootfolder']}/squeezecenter/slimserver.pl but there is nothing in the squeezecenter directory, so i removed the directory and made a symlink to the current squeezecenter install dir. Then I tried running the command via the console: /usr/local/bin/perl /mnt/CF2/slimnas/squeezecenter/slimserver.pl --user=www --prefsdir=/mnt/CF2/slimnas/etc/squeezecenter --logfile=/mnt/CF2/slimnas/var/squeezecenter/Logs/server.log --logdir=/mnt/CF2/slimnas/var/squeezecenter/Logs --cachedir=/mnt/CF2/slimnas/var/squeezecenter --daemon --pidfile=/mnt/CF2/slimnas/var/squeezecenter.pid The outcome was the following: Can't locate Slim/bootstrap.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /mnt/CF2/slimnas/squeezecenter-7.0-17793-noCPAN /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.8.8/BSDPAN /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/mach /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8 /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.8.8/mach /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.8.8 .) at /mnt/CF2/slimnas/squeezecenter/slimserver.pl line 105. Hi Michael, yes parrotnet is the group name. This userid/group (sfraser/parrotnet) was created locally (with local authentication) on the SlimNAS to allow for the SMB mounts to the freeNAS in order to move the TGZ's and FLAC files over. This is my default user/workgroup for all file shares on all hosts on my home network. You definitely should not need to fiddle with permissions on the file system level to get shares working. Leave this to FreeNAS' admin tools. I don't understand why this would interfere with SlimNAS? If SC is run as a user which can't even read its own files, you'll be in trouble. The problem with simplified systems is that you have to follow their way of doing things. As soon as you start to fiddle with it, you risk to break things. FreeNAS (and SlimNAS) tries to create a file server easily. But if you change stuff it expects in its own way, you're likely to break it. I'd recommend you try to create as clean and default install as possible, only using FreeNAS tools to manage permissions etc. -- Michael ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] FreeNAS + SqueezeCenter 7.0
Yeah, as I said, disable enable solved the problem, connection works. Then I tried to somehow reproduce the problem and here is what I found out: To get the server running in the first place, I had to copy the data from the automatically created folder squeezecenter-70-blabla into the plain squeezecenter folder. Then, I wanted to try an update so I downloaded 7.0.1 and upgraded via the freenas webinterface. After that, squeezecenter was accessible without problems. I checked the version in the squeezecenter webgui, and it was the new 7.0.1 WITHOUT having to copy the new folder squeezecenter-70-blabla to squeezecenter. Deleting the folder squeezecenter still made the squeezecenter collapse. Then, recopying squeezecenter-70-blabla to squeezecenter again fixed the problem, server was again online. What surprises me now is that the webgui showed 7.0.1 without having to manually copy the folder. I know this sounds a bit confusing, but maybe it can help you understand that problem. gn8 -- Default Default's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16316 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44039 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

Ok, I did a fresh install of FreeNAS (686.3) and downloaded the official release of squeezecenter (squeezecenter-7.0-noCPAN.tgz) and downloaded Michaels latest SLIMNAS (99) earlier today. It installs fine but will not run or start. I see no perl process in the process list. I have tried changing the squeezecenter directory folder to a simple sqeezecenter without the CPAN extention etc., but when I do that the FreeNAS squeezecenter page states that it is not installed. The only thing that i have done which might be out of the ordinary is when i created the FreeNAS share I use a local sfraser userid and parrotnet group name? I am not that familier with Unix (yet!), and have been trying to follow this thread, but got lost in the process. I would appreciate it if anyone had any suggestions and or explanations! P.S I have had earlier versions working including a beta version of 7.0, but had to expand the files on my Ubuntu workstation and then move them over to the freeNAS directory. This does not seem to be required, because the files seem to be there in expanded form after the freeNAS install. Thanks and Happy Easter ..if your so inclined. Scott -- sfraser 2 Chan. SlimNAS/SC7.0 on FreeNAS 0.686.3 seems to be bulletproof. Just a couple of minor quirks: 1. Still have to rename slimnas-0.92.tgz to slimnas.tgz 2. The SlimNAS installer installed SC7 into a folder named squeezecenter-7.0-noCPAN that I needed to rename to squeezecenter 3. SC7 is incorrectly reporting that there is a new version of SC available. 4. I even tried setting up a test account that were part of wheel and www, but no luck. Tried all above, nothing got SlimNAS 0.92 and SqueezeCenter 7.0 to work. I did some more testing, focusing on ownership. I have a users group on FreeNAS. The slimnas share I created had group wheel - I checked this with putty. Michael, I posted in the big thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40159page=6 and included a log, as you requested. My issue is not as severe since SC7 does work on FreeNAS, just not reliably. When it comes up as failed, sometimes a reboot gets it working, other times I have to de-enable SlimNAS save then re-enable - save. Ultimately, what would be best is an appliance like SlimNAS solution that works as designed every-time. Thx Michael, I'm in the USA and have no issue building my own FreeNAS systems. This particular box is a Asus VIA C3 terminator barebones $79 USD and it works great irt FreeNAS, other than not supporting USB booting. My issue is only with FreeNAS sometimes not starting. This particular box is at a friend/client's home and is not yet externally accessible. Next time I pay him a visit, I'll set the FreeNAS router for external HTTPS access, so I'll be able to check on it's health remotely. Once this is done, I'd be willing to also give you access. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] FreeNAS + SqueezeCenter 7.0
whatwho, I should explain further about my FreeNAS setup. When I first installed FreeNAS (2006?) I created a single group called users. I assign all users to this group - my FreeNAS is only used by 3 people, including myself (c0utta). I did notice on the latest FreeNAS release that there are many other groups now (including wheel) but I'm ignoring those at the moment. I logon as c0utta (not as admin) to administer FreeNAS. I created the slimnas folder using a Windows XP PC, which created the slimnas folder with me (c0utta) as the owner and wheel as the group. There were then many efforts to get SC7 running but to no avail. Then I changed the group to users, followed Michael's instructions and SC7 was up and running within a minute. This could be coincidental, but maybe there's something happening because c0utta administers FreeNAS, is a member of group users and the slimnas folder (through XP) has group wheel. Clutching at straws, but you never know. c0utta, thanks for your eplain. In your case it can be reasonable, but when I installed FreeNAS (just to run slimserver) 2 months ago, I haven't changed anything at the usermanagement.
