Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing
I finally got the mp3plugin working on Windows. I added it to the system ext folder: Code: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_91\lib\ext Then created a batch file for the player jar: Code: start javaw -jar SoftSqueeze.jar Then created a shortcut to that, with the exe's icon, and set window mode to minimized. I could not get the .vmoptions file to work with the any -Djava.library.path variant I tried. cosmotic's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32735 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62060 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

This is great! :) I was so bummed out until I saw both of your responses. So, potentially we can have 3rd party plugins for SiriusXM , Slacker and Pandora. I vaguely remember there's already a 3rd party plugin for SiriusXM. As long as the 3rd party plugins are offered for SiriusXM; and, at least one or two more 3rd party radio provider plugins, I'll be set for for a while (until I can ultimately find a technology that can completely replace everything I have currently). Do any of you have a list of working 3rd party radio plugins? PS: Would I still be able to keep my local FM radio stations I listen to via Squeezebox clients? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing
I have done no testing of Softsqueeze with 7.7. 7.7 is mainly about DLNA server support for the Logitech Revue product. In relation to SB players there are a few bug fixes and other small change such as MOG plugin but for SB players it is essentially the same as 7.6.2 As part of image and video support - users can specify multiple directories for the libraries which might be useful. Already there have been a few more bug fixes so 7.7.1 will be latest. If you don't want image or picture support (e.g. to speed up scans) - they can be disabled from command line. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62060 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Many years ago, well a few years ago when the Transporter was designed, the circle's 4th quadrant hadn't yet been discovered, I guess. So if a Back function could be added to the Softsqueeze Transporter Large-Center-Navigation-Knob to the existing up/down/forward, that would be very nice, the existing Back button wouldn't have to change. Well, if anyone's interested, the experiment was a success. After grabbing the source from CVS, I added mp3plugin.jar into the lib/ directory with the other third-party jars, and added it to the various places those libs are mentioned in the build.xml file (the two items where they are listed in the classpath for building, which may or may not be essential, and a signjar/ tag below the others which I'm pretty sure is). Then I built it with ant dist, edited the dist/common/softsqueeze.jnlp to identify the host my SBS is on, and uploaded the dist/common/ folder to my webserver. On running the jnlp from the server and viewing the Settings dialog, the selected mp3 decoder is preset to Java MP3 Plugin, so it appears to have worked as hoped. Hi, I don't know how alive this thread or BPA's work are at this stage, but I have a point to add and a question to raise, if I may. Both are related to the Java MP3 Plugin. Point: The most recently-posted link above for the plugin now goes to an Oracle page for a larger bundle of multimedia-stuff. I found a link for the MP3 plugin alone, at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javasebusiness/downloads/java-archive-downloads-java-client-419417.html#javamp3-1_0-oth-JPR Question: Is there any way the MP3 plugin can be included into the Softsqueeze applet/jnlp when deployed from one's own server, instead of the client having to download and add it to their Java install? Note I appreciate the licensing issues, but I'm only talking about individuals being able to include it by themselves for their own use. (As long as only I use the applet, I believe I'm still honouring the license for the plugin, no?) I realise the plugin is only available compiled, but can it somehow be supplied along with the main Softsqueeze applet, or does it have to be properly installed in the client's JRE? -- Havin_it Havin_it's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12661 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62060 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Yeah, I just recently downloaded and installed the mp3 plugin from that same URL. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing
Hi mkanet, Yes I understand that's why it cannot be distributed with Softsqueeze, but what I'm trying to suggest (perhaps poorly) is that if it were technically possible for me, as an end-user, to re-pack the softsqueeze .jar with the mp3plugin .jar inside (so that Softsqueeze would use it if present), then as long as I don't re-distribute the resulting .jar to anyone else, then I am not violating the license for either component. I have come across this at least once before, where the source of an application came with a simple instruction to place the required library in a given subfolder and make a small edit to another source file in order to make use of that library in the resulting app when built. That was also a Java app, but the lib in question was available as source, so I don't know if the same trick will work with the MP3 plugin as it's precompiled and source is unavailable. That's really what I'm asking: is it possible techically, and if so could I get any pointers on how to set it up? -- Havin_it Havin_it's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12661 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62060 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Hi bpa, thanks for the info on current situation. I should reiterate, though, that I'm not concerned with any issues of licensing: I assert (though you may disagree) that license incompatibility is irrelevant if I build a combined package myself for my own use, because no distribution occurs. By supplied in the sentence you quote, I mean supplied by me from my own HTTP server to my own browser, that's all. Should have phrased that better. If I can get hold of newer source (there's no source with the sourceforge release and the slimdevices svn is, as you say, 3.7 only) then I'll try to make some sense of it myself. Yes, after seeing those I hoped I could perhaps just add the mp3plugin.jar to the /lib folder with those others, and name it in the META_INF/MANIFEST.MF file in the SoftSqueeze.jar and in the jnlp file, but alas not so simple :( The jar is unsigned, which makes the webstart fail. Self-signing it would be the next step, but I'll have to work out how that's done as that's new to me. Not strictly for technical reasons but for legal ones, the provider has contracts with logitech to make it available on hardware only. These providers are probably interested in making sure that clients use thier own bespoke PC client apps etc . Well there is a technical side too and the hardware players, propriotary drm schemes could be hidden out of sight, that would comfort the service providers. -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Okay BPA, you can't say you dont have access to music services anymore because of your geographical location :) You have access to the best music service in the world! I just signed up for Spotify premium and added the plugin to Squeezebox Server. However, when I try to play anything on Spotify, I get the below error message. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing
Hi, I like Softsqueeze, too. After using earlier versions in the past, without connection problems as far as I recall, today I installed v3.9b2 on a computer running Windows XPPSP3 and Java 6 Update 21. I never got past the initial configuration because the Squeezebox Server Hostname field was greyed out. Apparently Softsqueeze did an initial broadcast but couldn't find a server although I tried without firewall and the server is on the same subnet. After a lot of searching I found a solution: Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\org\titmuss\softsqueeze set the value slimserver=hostname . Now it's playing fine, but the server selection is still greyed out in the preferences screen. Just wanted to report this, maybe the DIY solution can help someone in the future? Personally, I would much prefer a plain text configuration file over settings stored in the Windows registry. -- sheppy sheppy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=46116 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62060 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Hi everyone, I just wanted to come on here and say that I am loving Softsqueeze. bpa, the deadlock fix, moving flushSamples() out of the synch block. I think there is the situation here that rather than deadlock, toState == FLUSH, line is re-started in flushsamples() so the next time play() is called (when advancing a track) it will return (without changing toState) as the code checks to see if line.isRunning(). As toState is still FLUSH, the run() method will forever loop on the wait() toState != PLAY. -- JackOfAll JackOfAll's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3069 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62060 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

You could be right. It is 2 yrs since I did the testing and I cannot remember details. I did a lot of testing of various scenarios on single and multi core system both Windows and Linux and ffwd a track is an obvious scenario that I think I ought to have tested it but I cannot be sure. However without redoing all the testing I cannot give a definitive answer. I do remember getting a number of deadlock in the run procedure (it was easy to make it deadlock and then located with Java console) and spent some time on the routine. I have an vague idea that one of the deadlock causes might be flush related possibly that it doesn't return until the flush has completed but I'm not certain. Trying to get around the deadlocks made me feel a rewrite was desirable but I wasn't sure of the causes and felt a rewrite could bring more problems. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62060 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Thanks for info bpa/Ralphy. It would be good if there was a single, current official version. There seem to be a few versions floating around in several different locations. ;) I'd be happy to supply patches back once I know which version to generate patches against. As I said, I went off at a bit of a tangent with re-writing the audio package, mostly due to frustration at trying to debug. bpa's patch fixes the deadlock issue while keeping with the spirit of the original code. That aside, I have several other changes, silly things in the overall scheme of things, eg. like making sure the app doesn't crash when using a PulseAudio mixer - the gainControl is FloatControl.Type.VOLUME, rather than FloatControl.Type.MASTER_GAIN, which I'll generate individual patches for. I don't think I've ever used SoftSqueeze as part of a sync group. But if you can give me a little more of a pointer/info towards the audio sync issues, I'll take a look. Likewise, it would be good to know about any other outstanding issues (there are 3)? Not that I wish to become maintainer, but I still use Softsqueeze in preference to SqueezePlay so would like to see it still being kept up to date and in sync with the server side of things. -- JackOfAll JackOfAll's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3069 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62060 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing
Im so glad to see other talented people interested in updating Softsqueeze. Is it possible to get an installable executable and patch with all the latest changes from everyone into a 3.9b2 or 4.0b version? I'm no expert, but it seems to makes sense to have some kind of version control where each change gets a respective high version number. Although, for my purposes, I only need the latest softsqueeze.jar file. I'm also curious to know if any of these changes may fix the Sirius Radio plugin error. There seems to be something different in softsqueeze client which may contribute to this error: You are not authorized Sirius plugin error message. http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71255 Thanks for all your support guys! -- mkanet mkanet's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7965 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62060 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Ralph, Unfortunately PM does not allow me to add attachments. First patch attached for SoftSqueeze. The Linux PulseAudio Mixer does not provide a MASTER_GAIN (log) control, only a (linear) VOLUME control. This is against the 3.9b1 version. My other changes are going to take a little more time to decouple from the code I effectively re-wrote. +---+ |Filename: softsqueeze_vol.diff | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11404| +---+ -- JackOfAll JackOfAll's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3069 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62060 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Likewise, it would be good to know about any other outstanding issues (there are 3)? I think there were problem when softsqueeze was part of a sync group - it would take a long time to start playing and then it would lose sync. I think this was more prevalent when the streams had to be transcoded (e.g. WMA, AAC) into Flac. This sync problem wasn't present on my system before the 7.3.x sync code changes. I think the sync problem was less of an issue when the audio had to be transcoded into MP3 which made me think getting jFlac 1.3 (and then add later fixes) might be helpful. Another problem was mkanet's Sirius issue which I couldn't test as I couldn't use Sirius due to geo restrictions. I think the 3rd problem was something related to starting a stream playing and sometime stream didn't start. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62060 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Which is the current version of Softsqueeze, the trunk in slim svn? I tried to keep the softsqueeze sources inline with bpa's changes but it is currently out of date. v3.8 is available from sourceforge see post '209' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=527186postcount=209) for details. Sounds like you've made significant changes from bpa's release. I'd like to merge bpa's changes into the repository so we can capture the 3.9b1 changes. Once that's done, perhaps you'd be interested in merging any of bpa's changes into your code and I can create a branch for your version as well. I can use install4j to create new installer packages for both versions if there's any interest. -- ralphy Ralphy *4*-Classics, *2*-Booms, *12*-Squeezeslaves 'Squeezeslave' (http://code.google.com/p/squeezeslave/) 'donations' (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donationsbusiness=LL5P6365KQEXNlc=CAitem_name=Squeezeslavecurrency_code=USDbn=PP%2dDonationsBF%3abtn_donate_SM%2egif%3aNonHosted) always appreciated. ralphy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3484 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62060 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing
As he noted, ralphy has taken on keeping the source repository. The slimdevices svn effectively has version 3.7 of Softsqueeze except for some cosmetic changes such changing the name of SqueezeCenter to SqueezeboxServer. 3.7 broke/became v. unreliable when SC/SBS 7.3.x was released with the updated audio sync code. 3.8 is a crude hack I did to get Softsqueeze working again quickly. The 3.9b1 changes were a more considered fix to the problem and ignored any of the 3.8 changes. When testing 3.9 changes I found the issues about threads. I put 3.9b1 out for testing but I think there were 3 outstanding issues - once of which was audio sync. In 2009, at short notice I was no longer able to give time to do more Softsqueeze testing/development and I had to change my own development systems. It was only last Dec was I was finally able to find the 3.9b1 changes in my backups. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62060 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing
I never completed that changes after 3.9b1. It was supposed to be a stopgap until Squeezeplay was completed and then Softsqueeze was supposed to fade away. Attached is a patch file for the changes made to the audio subdirectory. These are all the changes that mattered. Some were due to a small change in slimproto message behaviour which stopped non MP3 streams playing reliably. Most of the other changes relating to thread synchronisation (not to be mixed up with audio stream sync) were due to race problem when Softsqueeze was run on multicore-processors. There was still an issue with SBS audio sync. I think upgrading to latest JFlac might help but JFlac 1.3 ? had a bug which I started looking at but never completed. +---+ |Filename: softsqueeze391.patch.zip | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11386| +---+ -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62060 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Any chance the source could be made available? I would love to see the improvements to the underlying code.
