You are not wrong.
The System 7.5.3 download from Apple consists of 19 parts of ONE big disk
image.
The idea is that you download and unstuff the parts, then mount the image
and install from there.

Actually, Claris changed its name to Filemaker and stopped development of
all their products except Filemaker and HomePage. ClarisWorks was "bought"
by Apple (along with its developers), and Emailer, as you've indicated, w

I know that. The issue was, IIRC, whether or not certain Ethernet cards
interfere with the installation of a (Sonnet) CPU upgrade.

Nope. SCSI Target Mode does internal IDE drive only, nothing else.

ach, actually) on a 1400, once
you get it installed, doesn't support networking or SCSI devices, leaving

Whoa! Did that price just shoot up in the last couple of days? Damn, last
time I actually looked at that page (a week or so ago), instead of just
copying the URL, it was $99...
,
s it that
late PowerBook 500 series models were shipped with IDE drives and SCSI-IDE
converters. That would be the 500 MB models, then; I have a rather late 320
MB model that came with a native SCSI HD.

0, though. Get yourself
a nice used PB520 or 540, rip out the old 68LC040 and replace it with a
68040 from your friendly neighbourhood electronics parts shop. Bump it up to
80 or 90 MHz while you're at it, and you're in business.
