My last employer (EDS) and I had worked out a deal where I paid for the
conference and they paid for my time off as training days so I didn't have

The lack of a watering hole (without having to drive or walk) was a slight
inconvenience to me, even though I'm local. We managed to get sizable groups
to go to places nearby pretty easily, although the groups might have been a
bit larger if no driving was required
