Re: How to get rid of the message avid server has no windows?

2023-12-06 Thread Rui Vilarinho
Hello, it could be as follows:

1. Navigate to System Preferences by pressing VO + M.
2. Go down and press return on it.
3. Once inside System Preferences, move to the extreme right/down by pressing
VO + right arrow.
4. Interact with the preferences panel by pressing VO + Shift + down arrow.
5. Once inside, navigate and find 'Users & Groups,' then get inside by pressing
VO + Space bar.

Once there, go to the far right/end, and you'll find the option to 'click the
lock to make changes.' Click it, and you may need to enter your Mac password
afterward.

I hope this helps. Best regards."

2023-12-05 Thread Rui Vilarinho
Hey there! To fix the Avid Server message on your Mac, go to "System
Preferences," choose "Users & Groups," and then click on "Login Items." Look
for anything related to Avid Server and remove it from the list. This should
stop the message from popping up when you start your Mac. Let me know if that
helps!

Avid Application Manager is a small background app that Avid created to alert
users of their software of updates and other news. You'll find once installed
it launches each time you start up your computer. However many users do not
want background apps running and there is no need for the Avid Application
Manager to run for Pro Tools to work.

However there is currently no 'disable at startup' option, or a simple way to
stop it from launching each time to turn your computer on, however follow these
simple steps and you can control Avid Application Manager behaviour in both Mac
and Windows PC.

How To Stop The Avid Application Manager From Launching At Startup - Mac

Follow these simple steps.

* Go to Mac HD/Library/LaunchAgents

* Then right click on the file called com.avid.ApplicationManager.plist
file and open it with Text Edit

* Change the RunAtLoad key to false

* Then use Save As and place it on your Desktop, it may add the word
'copy' to the end of the name.

* Click on the name to edit it and change the name so that the entry is
called com.avid.ApplicationManager.plist file it may prompt you and ask you if
you wish to add the plist extension, if it does then say yes.

* Now drag the updated file back into Mac HD/Library/LaunchAgents where
it came from, it will ask if you want to replace or keep both, say replace then
you will be prompted for your password.

* Enter you password to complete the copy process,

That's it - now Avid Application Manager will not launch on you Mac unless you
want it to. You'll find it in the Applications folder and if you wish you can
make another shortcut to the dock.

No, you have to focus the mouse at the actual fader, which VoiceOver does
not show, and double-left-click here.

Hi,

TBProAudio has updated all of their accessible meter plugins to enable
number entry for all controls.

However, VoiceOver does not support this in plugins, and you will need to
use a combination of VoiceOver and MouseKeys to navigate and
double-right-click on the correct parameter before entering an exact value.
Flo Tools plugin views might also work if created.

You will need sighted assistance for this, but there is nothing the
developer can do to make VoiceOver handle this issue better.

The updates can be downloaded here:

  Hi John,
When issuing the Load Instrument command, a standard file browser comes up
and at that point you're navigating as you would in the Finder so it's very
straight-forward. Currently, those macros will work with Kontakt 5.6 and
higher. I'll get the version 6 macros together within the next couple of weeks.
Cheers,
  Slau

before loading and reading name of currently loaded instrument?

Hi John,

I created a series of macros that help in the process of loading, batch

Kontakt version 6 is out, the macros from version 5 need to be adapted. I
haven't done the update to Komplete 12 yet but will certainly do that shortly
and will provide a new set of macros.

That said, since each library hosted in Kontakt can be quite different,
none of the macros are meant for the manipulation of the instruments. One can
load Kontakt into Komplete Kontrol, load in NKI files and save out NKS files to
be able to browse within Komplete Kontrol. Further, with sighted assistance,
one can bind parameters to host automation within Kontakt to make those
parameters show up in Komplete Kontrol. It's a bunch of work but worth it when
trying to get certain instruments to be accessible.

Re: Finally; An accessible RMS/LUFS/VU/peak meter and accessible spectrum analyser is here are of charge

2018-10-26 Thread Rui Vilarinho
Hi, I'm also testing this great tools in other DAW and their very handy
indeed. Thanks to the developers and John for sharing it with us. I'm still
getting use to this technique of course.

Allow me to point this out: I don’t have SoundForge install in my MacPro
but on a Windows system, within SoundForge Tools Statistics when copy to
clipboard offers the following as the example below:

Cursor position (Time) 00:00:02,373

Sample value at cursor (dB) -17,951

Minimum sample position (Time) 00:00:11,942

Minimum sample value (dB) -0,901

Maximum sample position (Time) 00:00:08,476

Maximum sample value (dB)-0,175

RMS level (dB) -19,963

Average value (dB) -95,530

Zero crossings (Hz) 1.589,88

The End.

If I remember well Audacity offers a handy Statistics chart as well.

It would be great if Pro Tools offer this kind of accessible inscribe
Statistics. I believe Logic Pro X don’t offer that also.

Who knows if one day Peak 2 offer a copy or export Statistics to a text
document! Grin.

I see your point…. Not sure if there is such a tool available, but for
shorter audio, I would reset the peak meter for the master inside of PT and
play the whole file. If the meter is set correctly in the preferences, it
will show the highest level obtained when finished.

Hi,

I’ve got a couple of questions related to the use of the accessible peak
meter and spectrum analyser, and in case this is useful to someone else, I’ll

plugins are found in the users/shared/documentation folder on your startup
drive.

Hi,

Yes, all the meters will alert you when the threshold you set are touched.
So that’s also the case when the meter is set to show peak values. So, if
you aim to have the meters at a maximum level of -14 dB LUFS or -16 dB
RMS, or -0,5 dB peak level, you simply set the threshold to the value you
aim for and raise the volume until you hear the threshold is touched by
the music. For some music genres, it might also be a good idea to make
sure the dynamic range of your song, that is the difference between the
loudest and the most silent parts of your song, is not more than for
example 8 dB. You can check this by setting the threshold to a value 8 dB
lower than what you aim for as the highest loudness, and then play the
most silent parts of your song. If the threshold is not touched here, you
might consider fixing that issue by using automation or compression to
even out the dynamics in the song.

I’m working on a set of presets for the plugins in Pro Tools, to simplify
this, since you then can have separate presets for different meter types
and different situations. but you might of course create such presets
yourself in Logic Pro or Pro Tools.

If you would like to know the specific value of the meter at different
parts in a song, you should adjust the threshold up and down until you
hear the threshold value is touched by the music.

If you would like to work with the K system (K14,K20 etc.), you set the
threshold to the K value, but use the RMS+3dB mode.

The spectrum analyser works the same way, but here you should first set a
freq value and a range, and then set the threshold until you hear the
music is touching the threshold for that frequency range. So, if you set
the freq to 1k (1000Hz), the range to 500Hz, and the threshold is touched
at a certain value, you know that this is the volume between 1000 and 1500
Hz. By moving the freq value up and down, and change the threshold until
it is touched by the music, you’ll get a picture of how loud the music is
in different freq ranges for this song.

Does this make sense? ;)

Best,
John André

I really appreciate the efforts they have put into this, only based on my
request for some accessible meters. There are currently no other accessible
meters that does all this. The products can be downloaded free of charge
from TBProAudio here:

https://www.tb-software.com/TBProAudio/download.html

Look for the AccessiblePeakMeter2, and the accessible spectrum analyser. The
products are calibrated for 0 dB FS, so no further calibration is needed. I’m

Hope this will help others as well!

A friend asked me to make some changes to one of his rock music, that he
recorded on a earlier ProTools version. But, when I open his PTX session it
doesnt open ffollowed my ProTools configuration, not even the tracks appear,
it plays wellthough!
Well, exist any specific shortcut that refreshes my custom PT
configuration?
(for the record, not using yet FlowTools).

Regards,
Rui Vilarinho

Thanks for the tips. I tried it on sends and
it works. I knew about the arming of tracks, but not selecting. I’m surprised
they wouldn’t have just used shift alone with the encoders. II It would be
nice to be able to move through locate points. It would be great to be able to
control plugins, especially with that flotools implementation.

Not tested yet, but it goes anyway some stuff I found about the BCF2000
controller functions.

We can adjust track pan values; the "Store" button toggles the encoders
between L/R for stereo track panning, while the 4 "Encoder Group" buttons under
the screen determine the track send levels. It's possible to adjust with the
encoders (Send A, B, C or D).

We can record-enable tracks by pressing the corresponding track encoders,
and/or select them by holding Shift (the "Edit" button) and pressing the
encoders. The Encoder Groups control the send levels of a track. E.g. We set up
the reverb sends on Send A of every track, press the first Encoder Group button
and the encoders now control the level of Send A, and the LED rings will show
the level. If there is no send on a track, the LED's wont light up. We can do
this for the first four sends (A-D) of each track by using the 4 Encoder Group
buttons. So, yeah, we can push down on the rotary dials, lol! The record
enabled is a huge help.

Concerning plugin's; Curious that if we open up plugins in pro tools now
there is a red box around some of the switches and dials that was not there
before started using the controller. That looks like pro tools showing which
dials, faders and switches can be controlled by the bcf2000.

Well, it goes a diagram that shows the control mapping for the BCF2000 in
Baby HUI emulation mode:
  http://www.behringerdownload.de/BCF2...tion_modes.pdf

We can pretty much just use the template above to see the button layout and
look at the manual below, for the baby hui controller to see what every single
function does in the bcf2000 and how to do it. There is no mention of plugin
control in the manual though, too bad...
  http://www.mackie.com/pdf/BabyHUI_UG.pdf

Didnt find stuff concerning moving to locate points.

I’m pretty much quoting, bringing the experience of guys with good vision,
anyway hope this helps. Let us know how you go,

  Rui Vilarinho

The inability to work with plugins is due
to a limitation in the baby hui protycol. I want to know how to access aux
sends and arm tracks for recording. I would think there would be some sort of
channel strip moe that would let you control a number of parameters on a single
track or bus. It should also be possible to move to locate points.

Here’s an important new development for our community. A new free product
specifically designed for blind users of Pro Tools has been released today and
it’s called Flo Tools. Point your browsers at
  http://flotools.github.io
and get these free scripts for Pro Tools and, yes, we said, “scripts for Pro
Tools.” You’ll need Keyboard Maestro to trigger them. These are scripts that
perform and automate certain tasks and provide feedback through VoiceOver.
Everything you need to know can be found at the web site. There’s a detailed
Read Me file plus an “Intro to Flo Tools” mp3. This open source project will
transform the way blind users use Pro Tools. Since it’s open source, other
programmers can get involved and who knows what this might eventually lead to
but, right now, it’s the most exciting development in Pro Tools accessibility
this community has seen in years. Flo Tools is brought to you by Chi Kim, Rocco
Fiorentino and Slau Halatyn.

I’ve attached a plain text version of the keyboard shortcuts for Pro Tools
version 12.6. I’ve stripped out the Windows commands so this is Mac only. I’ve
left in the right-click shortcuts as they appear in the pdf. They’re not
keyboard shortcuts, per se, but I left them in just in case someone wants to

If you’ve never updated the Applications Manager since it became accessible,
launch the Applications Manager and, with sighted assistance, log in to your
Avid account in the application then click on the Apps tab and update the
Applications Manager. Follow the prompts. I would then restart the machine. At
that point, you’ll be able to navigate the Applications Manager. The Apps tab
is where you’ll find a list of updates. Use VO-Shift-click to click on items
when working in the Applications Manager.
  Hope that helps,

Of course, dont forget the basic stuff as selecting and arming the track within

Elastic audio quantization

2016-09-21 Thread Rui Vilarinho
Hi, Concerning Elastic audio quantization again. Do you think the folowing
could make any sense?

1. Change the desired track for editing  from sample to ticks;

2.  set elastic audio to polyphonic or accordingly;

3.  under track view change the view to warp;

4.  go to the transport cluster, under  midi change the tempo;

5. And, Make sure the conductor track isn’t selected.

This is where thinks turned wicky , because if I disable conductor track
and insert a new tempo, it seems to do nothing. Although, in the end some
tracks were crazy out of rithym, as if it was quantized.

For what I check on youtube tutorials, I understood that it's possible to
auto quantize with Elastic audio, however I'm having issues understanding
what I'm doing wrong, I mean , I'm changing audio but not the right way
until now.

Anybody already manage to auto quantize audio? Or like was more or less
already mentioned, it's only possible to speed it up or slow it down?!

Thanks in advance, Rui Vilarinho

Hi Rui,
It’s right under the Edit menu. If you don’t have a range selected in the
timeline, arrowing down the menu will skip over dimmed options. You can see
the dimmed option if you navigate down the Edit menu with the VoiceOver
cursor. If you make a selection in the timeline, the option will become
available and the arrow keys will navigate to the option as normal.

Re: Voice-Over recommended configurations to use with Pro Tools

2016-09-12 Thread Rui Vilarinho
Hi Slau, I asked someone with good vision that confirms that indeed the
Midi Event appears at a PT corner, is tiny and with dark colours, not even easy
for those with good vision! grin .

Although the solution was much more basic, the cursor tracking was off. To
resolve it, I just enable it pressing VO shift F3. Now selecting stuff within
Mac System Preferences table list’s and Pro Tools Midi Event list it’s acting
as expected.

This is a very positive achieving because I can also confirm that is
practicable to modify midi events within Pro Tools.

I manage to do it with your help, thanks a bunch.

  Hi Rui,

Perhaps if you’re moving around the MIDI Event List, you might actually be
looking at something that’s off screen so it’s not possible to route the mouse
pointer there. Command-h might help focus the selected item into the visible
portion of the screen. You can also zoom the window to help show as many items
as possible when that window is open.

Pressing Control-Option-Space on the checkboxes here will toggle them.

Apart from that, you definitely need to hook up a monitor. VoiceOver does

  Hi Rui,

The prices change all the time depending on what’s on sale, etc but it’s
roughly anywhere from $1,000 up to around $2,000 depending on which controller
you get. If you have a controller already, you can opt for the S-25 which is a
25-key controller you can use to access the presets and adjust parameters and
you can use your existing keyboard for performance.

In Pro Tools, you instantiate an instance of the Komplete Kontrol plug-in and
load the various instruments through it including Kontakt. I haven’t loaded
third-party libraries but I know others have had some success if the libraries
are NKS compliant. Native Instruments have a bunch more info on their site.

Since warp markers aren’t accessible, I don’t know of any way to reliably
create them and quantize them. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible but it’s not a
straight-forward process as far as I understand it. Some programmers tried to
look into it but it wasn’t a simple thing to implement. Perhaps it’ll happen in
the future.

  HTH,
  Slau

  Hi Rui,

One of the people on the list went through the painstaking process of
creating .preset files for many Kontakt Instruments. Here’s a link to a folder
with the presets:

  https://www.dropbox.com/sh/tuqp1uo7ikge89a/AADMzrxTDav0MDha2xASZaDQa?dl=1

If you don’t have a Kontakt folder in your Plug-In Settings folder,
simply paste this folder into your Plug-In Settings folder inside of the Pro
Tools folder inside your Documents folder. If you already have a Kontakt folder
in your Plug-in settings folder, then just copy and paste the contents of the
Kontakt folder you download into your Kontakt folder in the Plug-In Settings
folder. Again, you might not have some of the instruments featured in these
presets but, at the very least, the Factory Library should work.

  Hi Rui,

One of the people on the list went through the painstaking process of
creating .preset files for many Kontakt Instruments. Here’s a link to a folder
with the presets:

  https://www.dropbox.com/sh/tuqp1uo7ikge89a/AADMzrxTDav0MDha2xASZaDQa?dl=1

If you don’t have a Kontakt folder in your Plug-In Settings folder, simply
paste this folder into your Plug-In Settings folder inside of the Pro Tools
folder inside your Documents folder. If you already have a Kontakt folder in
your Plug-in settings folder, then just copy and paste the contents of the
Kontakt folder you download into your Kontakt folder in the Plug-In Settings
folder. Again, you might not have some of the instruments featured in these
presets but, at the very least, the Factory Library should work.

voiceOver

sometimes cutting out and being unresponsive to the point where I need to

To

be fair, I haven't seen that behavior in Pro Tools specifically but I'm

imminent release

FYI, Pace just informed us that the upcoming release of the iLok License
Manager, version 2.6, will have support for screen readers on both Mac and
windows. The migration from QT4 to QT5 was more work than they expected
(which has nothing to do with accessibility, per se) and they did run into a
few bugs to work around in the accessibility implementation built into QT5.
This week, they're adding a number of keyboard shortcuts. As a result of the
delays, the release of version 2.6 is going to be more like mid November
which is only a little later than originally projected. All in all, good
news.

One thing to remember is that this first release is likely to have some
issues and it won't be perfect out of the gate but, where there are
problems, they'll get resolved in subsequent releases. Looking forward to
having access once again…

best,

Re: a reminder about level meter issues

2015-09-19 Thread Rui Vilarinho
I'm using here Pro Tools 11.3.1, anyway since happens the same here, it goes
some more ideas:
1. Make sure it doesnt have any notification or any other window behind, have
all windows close, leave only the Pro Tools, use VO F1 twice.
2. Do the same within Pro Tools, use VO F2 twice.
3. Or, within the Master track, interact with it, go down to comments and
write down something there, perhaps master or something.
Strangely enough when it's not being read the level meter, I write down
something on that comments edit box and that resolves that issue.
By intuition of course, the only thing that comes to mind is that once I write
down something there perhaps the window is moving a bit and that will shows
the level meter to Voice Over?! Well, works here all the time, grin.

can’t get the master track’s meeter to work. Any ideas?

While troubleshooting something the other day for testing purposes, I had a
situation where level meters weren't responding. This was quite unexpected
because it wasn't as if there were a ton of tracks in the session. Now, some of
you will recall that, when there are too many tracks within a session to
display at once in the Mix window, the tracks that are technically off-screen
will not have their level meter values respond. Any tracks that appear to be
"to the left" of the Track List pop-up menu (still referred to as the
"show/Hide" list but that'll change soon), are really off-screen and anything
"to the right," is actually within the boundaries of the window and will update
the level meters correctly. I've written about this before so anyone not
familiar with this phenomenon can search the archive or look at their mail
archive, etc.

so, in this case, I was dealing with a session with only four tracks and
the level meters weren't responding. I had reimported the files into a new
session and the meters seemed to suddenly work. It was bizarre to me. Then I
realized that, in the original session, somehow, the View menu's settings for
the Mix window display were set to display everything. The window, therefore,
was displaying mic pres, instruments, inserts and sends for both a through e
and f through j, the I/O displays, meters, comments, etc. Of course, this meant
that the contents of the Mix window extended beyond the edge of the physical
window which happened to be sized relatively small. So, since the level meters
were technically off screen (not horizontally but vertically), VoiceOver was
seeing a reference to the level meters because, as we know, VoiceOver sees all
kinds of things that aren't really visible but, since the meters weren't really
visible, there was no activity to report, no actual levels to speak of so no
numbers to report. In a case like this, either a page down or a zooming of the
window fixes the problem. Creating sessions from templates would probably be
useful in avoiding this situation to begin with but I'd sooner shoot myself
than use templates. Frankly, if you receive sessions from others, there's no
guarantee that the windows are going to be maximized and, chances are more
likely than not, the windows are going to be all over the place, depending upon
people's preferences. It's a good idea to get used to the possibility that a
window's size might simply not be maximized at any given point. Zooming is
great but even zooming doesn't necessarily guarantee that the window is going
to truly be at its maximum dimensions. For those who use Keyboard Maestro,
there's a single workflow item for tasks such as sizing the window. I set up a
task to maximize the window to its largest possible dimension and it works
flawlessly. Worth checking out if KM is part of your tool set.

Anyway, again, this whole level meter thing caught me off guard. As much as
I use Pro Tools, things like this rarely happen so, when they do, it sometimes
takes me by surprise and I'm reminded that others might experience head
scratchers like this perhaps more often than I might so I figured I'd share
this little reminder.

Date: September 15, 2015 at 10:47:04 AM EDT

To: ptaccess@googlegroups.com

Some of you will recall that Pace had indicated that they were shooting for
AES at the end of October as a timeframe for some progress on the accessibility
front for the iLok License Manager. I recently contacted the president of the
company as a gentle reminder of his previous projection.

Without getting into details, things seem to be on track for accessibility
support on both Mac and windows for version 2.6 to be released roughly the end
of October or early November. It's likely that the accessibility work won't be
100% complete at that point but at least useable with subsequent improvements
in future releases. In the current Windows version 2.5, there's support for
authorization in a limited capacity but it was a good first step for their
primary programmer to go through the steps of implementation. Pace will be
moving to the new version of QT very soon and that will help in general. The
point is, things have progressed and we'll see some results in the near future.

Re: Pace working on iLok License Manager accessibility

2015-09-17 Thread Rui Vilarinho
yeah... Understood and agree! A couple of weeks later messing around with Pro
Tools now I can and must admit that I'm much happyer, I was a bit
unconfertable with iLok license experience. Anyway, the most positive is
that Pro Tools is much more accessible then what I was expecting! True that I
didnt yet start messing around with midi data. I Invested on all this setup
searching better audio recording quality though!
I'm impresse with the audio fx plugins sound , not so much with the increase
and decrease plugin parameters values slowness! grin. Let's see future
evolution!

  Hi Rui,

Well, unfortunately, some companies don't have the same values or at least
don't act in the same way and it can take a lot of pestering to persuade some
companies into action. I'm happy to see that we're finally witnessing some
progress on the iLM front.

Re: Air creative colection 11.3.1 doubt

2015-09-13 Thread Rui Vilarinho
Ok ... One more issue resolved! Once again, explaining below since this can
happen to somebody one day. I should first instaled the Air Creative
Colection for version 11. This instaler came with more or less 2.99 giga size.
The first link that Avid sent to me, is only a fx upgrade for Pro Tools
11.3.1. for or less 300 mega size. That needed to be instal after.
Therefore, now within Pro Tools appears and plays fine the factory soft synth
instruments.

There you'll find a web-based version of the keyboard shortcuts. Some people
have difficulty with the pdf. This might help as an alternative.

Hi Rui,

Pro Tools will work with multiple interfaces but they must be grouped
together in what's called an aggregate device and that's done in the Mac OS.
In a nutshell, you need to launch the Audio/MIDI Setup utility and make sure
your devices are connected and powered on You need to create an aggregate
device. Select the aggregate device and go into the list of devices in the
second table and check the checkboxes for any devices you wish to include in
the aggregate device. Then launch Pro Tools and go to the Playback Engine
settings under the Setup menu. The first option in the dialog is the
Playback engine device to use for audio Input and output. Choose your
aggregate device here. Go to the I/O Setup window and select all items in
the input tab and delete the paths. Then hit the default button and Pro
Tools will automatically create paths for your connected devices. If you're
on Pro Tools 12, you can check the checkbox to apply settings across the
output tab and busses tab as well. when you're done, export your settings
and name the setup so you can load it again if necessary. Pro Tools will
default to that setup but, again, it's good to save it as a settings file.

Like I said, that's all in a nutshell. the manual details all of this so I
may be forgetting little things here and there and I'm certainly not giving
step by step instructions in this case but that's the general idea.

HTH,

Slau

Re: Bheringer BCF 2000 Control surface how to enable it?

2015-09-09 Thread Rui Vilarinho
Ok, I resolved it! Explaining below to close this post. Concerning the Mac
Os X 10.9.5 with Pro Tools 11.3.1 .
Indeed the Bheringer BCF 2000 controler surface works fine, no drivers
needed. It must be set up to Baby HUI profile; and to do this press the pad
below the 5th VPot. (counting from left). And turn on the surface. Done!
Now within Pro Tools; Use Alt m to open the menu, go to the right to Setup,
go down and do enter on periferalls.
Once inside go to the right and select the Midi controlers tab, use VO
space bar.
Go to the right and once on top of the title , go down once and open the
list menu and select HUI.
Go to the right once, on return , go down open the list menu and select BCF
2000 port 1. Do exactly the same on send.
Go to the right and make sure is selected number eight, concerns to 8
faders. Press ok and you will probably listen the motorized faders going
crazy, their reposition at the defined volume values.

Re: Using a external disc for sessions recording

2015-09-09 Thread Rui Vilarinho
The question was made because the external disc didnt aloud to paste any
file so Pro Tools couldnt also save the session. After some investigation I
realize that it was format to that other not funny fat OS. Therefore, the
solution was:
Go to utilitys and open the disc utility, use Command shift u, go down and
press commend O.

Pick your external disc and format it to Mac OS X.Done!

Re: Using 11rack and MAudio ProFire 2626 inputs

2015-09-09 Thread Rui Vilarinho

Hmm . Not expected I must say! I investigate more and I realize that Or,
I'm totaly wrong or indeed Pro Tools dont aloud to use two soundcars, as
having access to both interfaces inputs. The solution is? or I do select
only the 11rack and then record from it by USB, or perhaps connect it to
my MAudio Profire 2626 through SPDIF or ReAmp?! I dont mind with the idea
of recorde a lectric guitar mono since is my prefer audio capture. But, by
curiosity, anybody uses two external soundcards, or indeed confirms my
theory?

Re: Using a external disc for sessions recording

2015-09-09 Thread Rui Vilarinho
I didnt test it out but I dont think so. The thing is that it was indeed
format to fat 32 but didnt allow to write on the Mac, so format it to Mac
os x as recommended. Specially because it will be the Pro Tools sessions
plus audio samples and so on volume.

Hey Poppa, having fun here, agree that Pro Tools is really great!

Hello Rui do you know if once this is done can you still open up and
transfer files on the disk on your PC, or is this only able to be done
when it is fat 32?

The question was made because the external disc didnt aloud to paste any
file so Pro Tools couldnt also save the session. After some investigation
I
realize that it was format to that other not funny fat OS. Therefore,
the

solution was:
Go to utilitys and open the disc utility, use Command shift u, go down and
press commend O.
Pick your external disc and format it to Mac OS X.Done!

I'm just using the stocked Dyns3 compressor, and then the EQ 3/7 band E Q.
Literally nothing more, nothing less. Then the Air Non-Linear Reverb on the
basic medium preset, with the wet mix cranked a little higher. I think I did
roughly 24.0 or so.

Then, just lots of good automation both on volume and on panning.

If you all would like to actually see the session itself, let me know. I
still have it.

Ilok and Finally Started Pro Tools for the first time!

2015-09-06 Thread Rui Vilarinho
Hi, concerning the iLok and Pro Tools The issue was resolved. For any reason
the person I asked indeed wasnt able to drag and drop the licenses to the
iLok. But now I'm sure it worked because Pro Tools alowd to insert my user
name plus password.
This iLokPro Tools license procedure it's incomprehensibly unnecessary!
Actually, exist the contradiction of Avid developer investing on the Pro
Tools accessibility, which we must congratulate, but allowing this hole to
the blind client to fall down is just not understandable.
I cant understand why the license manager must be totally unaccessible! This
drags a Pro Tools blind client to a very unconfortable start.
Well, a hard start will make me stronger, believe me, I lerned a lot. grin
.
Thanks, couldnt understand it without your kind knoledgte share. Rui
Vilarinho.

Hoping here! you could have a point there since both License manager plus

Have you already used iLok License Manager to sort out the iLok
authorization stuff? If not, that's probably what PT is displaying,
and that window isn't accessible yet. Note that this is for Pace to
fix, not Avid. If you're all set with iLok already, then perhaps this
is another instance where having no monitor connected is gonna cause
dodgy performance...

Like a friend told me, we want to manipulate Pro Tools but we dont even know
how to use Voice Over!
Yeah, I went and tested of course and that worked fine, that's the exact way.
 Always learning!
Should be inteligent to tune the guitar first, then play it!
Thank you Slau very much for the explanation . Rui Vilarinho.

  Hi Rui,

You don't have to interact with the categories. You can just use the arrow
keys. the categories are automatically selected when you do this. Once you've
selected a category, simply move to the right with VoiceOver and you'll
encounter the table for the category you selected. Interact with this table and
you can navigate it as normal with VoiceOver.

  Hi Rui,

I'm not sure about what you claim to need to do with that command but, I
can tell you that it's not necessary on this end. When you get to the first
table, you can simply arrow down to the category then move the VoiceOver cursor
to the right and interact with the table with Control-Option-Shift-down arrow.
Pressing Control-Option-Space on the checkboxes here will toggle them.

Apart from that, you definitely need to hook up a monitor. VoiceOver does
not behave properly without a monitor attached to the computer. that is
categorically true. It used to be that one could attach a sort of dummy cable
with VGA but I'm not sure if that's possible with HDMI these days.

Hi, I own the 11Rack: indeed it's a Guitar processor, let's say that comes
with a bunch of presets that are more directed for vintage sound, not so much
crazy fx stuff like some other amazing processors around. Anyway, that's the
reason I enjoy the sound of it.
It's also a bass processor. Has got a XLR input for vocal and a bunch of ins
and outs jacks, the usual stuff.
It's a fine USB interface also.
The fx buttons on front are like if manipulating a guitar amplifier. You can
easilly tap tempo and change or turn on or off most of fx.
The display that shows all internal good stuff like selecting amps, mics and
the golden rest is totally unaccessible without eyes or optical nerve! grin .
Concerning the 11rack stand alone? saddly I can confirm that Voice Over gives
nothing to work with.
I am a lot curious with that 11 plugin!
Well, the stand alone version seems that could be the handy tool for us blind
guitarists. For those that have 11rack hardware perhaps we need to join and
explain to the developer the Voice Over issue, probably they dont even know!!!
They have the knoledge to make it accessible right?!

Subject: Guitar Amp Modellers: Editor Accessibility

Note: copying this from the PTAccess group.

Let's evaluate where things stand currently when it comes to multifunction
amp/effects units, primarily for guitar and accessibility.
Yes, this may be somewhat off-topic. I won't post on this again, unless it's
deemed acceptable by the mods. I figure if there are accessible units or units
whose editor applications are accessible, this is good to know for us studio
owners who need a do-everything guitar box for clients, teaching, gigging,
reamping tracks, etc.

Sadly, with many of these units, the editor on the computer side is
inaccessible. That sure matters when things get complex. Let's list what we
know so far.

Line6 Editor: not accessible although folks are having good experiences with
the M13 multieffects and POD HD hardware directly. No word on Helix yet.

  Fractal Audio Axe-FX: Axe-Edit not accessible (

Atomic Amps Amplifire: editor not accessible

Black Star ID Series: editor not accessible

Eleven Rack: editor and stand-alone software not accessible. Don't know about
the plug-in yet.

Kemper Profiling Amp: not known, anyone have one of these?

  Fender Mustang: not known

  Boss GT100: not known

On the PC side going back a few years, I could use the editor application for
the old Vox Tonelab units. The same goes for the editor for the Digitech
RP1000; I would say it's minimally accessible but usable. That means the editor
for the Digitech GSP-1101 would be accessible too; it's basically the same
processor as the RP1000 but in rack form. (pretty good amp models and effects
for the times, but not so good cabinets) For recording, you'll get better
sounds from the free Le Pou plug-ins, BX Rock Rack, Studio Devil plug-ins etc.
(that's just recording though, no gigging with that unless you want to depend
on a laptop in a gigging situation)

One new unit that looks promising, due out this fall is the Yamaha THR100H.
Here's how it's different. It functions, for the most part, like a traditional
amp, with regular knobs and switches. Beyond overdrive/boost, noise gate, and
reverb type, there are no additional effects, and it is asumed the player will
use regular pedals or other gear to get those. The amp modelling is state of
the art! Five preamp types from totally clean to really high-gain, can be
matched with three kinds of boost, fed through any one of several simulated
power tube types and topologies. Output is 100 watts class D, so this head
weighs in at only 11 pounds. Feed a traditional guitar cabinet or use
line/xlr/headphone outs. The outputs have 2048-point cabinet impulse responses,
and users can apparently load 3rd-party responses as well.

Where a software editor becomes involved is selecting among the 3 overdrives,
four reverb types, noise gate, whether the loops are parallel or serial,
loading 3rd-party cabinet IR's, and performing firmware updates. There is a
USB port for doing this, but not for getting audio in and out. They're asuming
anybody doing series recording already has some sort of interface.

There are two versions of the head, the THR100H and THR100H Dual. The dual
has two fully separate signal paths, meaning, for example, you and a student or
jamming buddy can plug into separate inputs, go through separate amp sounds
etc. Or, those two sounds cam be combined. Want a shimmery clean stacked with
a lower gain overdriven tone? You can do that.

Here's a teaser demo from Andertons, with a full demo promised mid-September:
  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jeJ3FG17lo

Yamaha are selling traditionally voiced close-back 1x12" and 2x12" guitar
cabs to go with the heads, featuring Eminence drivers. Where it gets
interesting is with the 2X12", because the drivers are not identical, meaning
you have more mix and match possibilities. With the dual version of the head,
you can send one signal to one driver and another to the second driver, or
blend them together, taking advantage of the qualities of both.

Here's Ross, their sales rep from the UK, doing a full walkthrough.
  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ina3d3jPaos

That sounds a little boxy because of all the room sound included, but also
gives a good idea what the thing actually sounds like in the room.

I have a bunch of presets I want to upload to my eleven rack that I’ve been

be cool to edit some of the built-in amps as some of them sound a bit ‘off’
with my PRS, and I’d like to replicate Brian May’s delays and amp sound.

Avid is aware of the issue. The thing is, it's a discontinued product and I'm
pretty sure they're not going to develop anything for the stand-alone software

front and I don't think there was any success. Once a product reaches end of

Hi people, I'm a bit stuck here, requesting your help.
I stayed Off line for a while, health and some other stuff, but now I'm
much better and concentrate to return to Pro Tools 11 instalation plus
iLock procedures .
What I've done until now:
1. I created a iLok account at www. iLok.com
2. Then I created a Pro Tools account at www.protools.com
3. I inserted my Activation Card license at Pro Tools website.
That's where starts first doubt: It prompts me with the message that I
still
dont have any produt.
4. Back to iLock website:
I connect the iLok pen.
Another doubt: I find no license and no iLock pen butto or wherever.
However, exist a License manager button, to download it. Must i download
and
instal, is this the aplication that will allow me to drag and drop the
license to the iLock pen?
Note: Since i'm having doubts, I'm not explaining well to my wife that
has
got some optical nerve to assist me.
I inform that all of this it's being bade through her iMac.
Although i want the Pro Tools and of course the iLock pen on my Mac Pro,
where I'll still gonna instal Pro Tools 11. Must I get it at
www.protools.com is that correct?
Well, i hope all of this make sence and you can assist me with the
correct

procedures.
Thankfull. Rui Vilarinho

Avid 11rack mono output doubt

2015-02-25 Thread Rui Vilarinho
Hi 11rack users,
Am I correct using only one of the two XLR back pannel stereo output but as a
mono output ?
Seems to be the same, right or left, although experience say to me that usually
use the left one .
I dont really enjoy much stereo guitar recording therefore I am testing it out
connecting my Avid 11rack to my MAudio Profire 2626 audio interface .
Anyway 11rack guitar delays arent so ping pong crazy stuff, yet since I dont
want to use stereo mono analog it's fine, straight to one of the MAudio Profire
2626 XLR Octane preamps , boosting it a bit if needed and this way converting
the sound once again to digital and bang bang a better guitar recording sound !
Or, the only mono output with the rigg standard sound xpected sound it's the
Jack line out ?
Just a thought ! what's your thoughts ?
Thanks in advance,
Rui Vilarinho

Ok friend, but did you set up that front pannel mono output to give the rigg
sound or you mean the dry sound only ?
Sorry if I explained wrong but I want to record a mono output but with the
rigg sound and for that i know that it's the single line out jack conection on
the back pannel.
What I want to make sure is if that's ok to use any of the stereo XLR outputs
aswel ? since balanced XLR cables seems to be a better choice.
Thanks,

I set mine up for rig output. If you’d rather use the XLR outputs, you should
be fine. Some rigs are stereo, as are those outputs - so if you want proper
mono sound, you’ll have to take both of those outputs into separate channels
and mix down to mono.

Re: importing files

2015-02-22 Thread Rui Vilarinho

Hello,
Is recommended to select all tracks,
by going to the last bar, give more one or two extra for those plugins fx
tails , and select all from to the start.

Then at the export window exist the option to export all tracks, this means
individual, i suppose that it's the first option.

other options are by master output, by project and so on.

Perhaps 24 bits and 44.100
and Triangular dittering
should be fine .
The rest is straight forward.
Sonar will rename either track starting by number it and so on.

Hope this make sense !
Good music production,

just to add. when i exported out of sonar, i bounced clips to track, and
used the consolidate audio feature.

only way i can see around this is to manually select each file in sonar and
mix them down one by one. then i’d have a file at the correct length. But
what a task. it would take for ever. some of these old projects have 30 or
40 tracks in them.
If there are any other suggestions for getting some of these files in to
line, i’d really appreciate the feed back.

Hi. here’s an interesting one.
I’ve started importing an older sonar project in to p t.
Thiissue is, a lot of the files i have i did not start recording at the
start of the project. for example, i have an organ track, which does not
come in until the middle eight in the track. So when i recorded it in
sonar , i just went to the part of the song i needed and started
recording.

so i have a shorter file that now does not line up when importing.
The issue now is a lot of these files are like that. Some times there may
be a very small part that needed to be played and we did not have time to
site there listening to the whole track just to get there.
So my question is this. Is there a way of alining these files up some how.
How can i import them and get them all in there proper place. in p t.
If this is not doable, then i’ll just have to go back to sonar to finish
off any old projects. This i can do if need be. Just thought i’d ask if
something can be done, as i have things set up nicely in p t now.

Tudo bem, Rui?

Qualquer coisa, me escreva em pvt. Sou usuário protools, mas não gravo,
apenas pos produção.

Cumprimentos.

Thanks for all the help. I think I’m going to try using my BCF2000 with
ProTools for track/sends volume and pan, and maybe transport controls.
If I need to change a plugin, I’ll use Reaper for that. Reaper has many
more advantages over ProTools when it comes to plugins; for a start,
they allow VST Plugins. Maybe one day, ProTools will see the error of
their ways, and reinstate the midi learn function, which apparently was
a feature in PT8.

The trouble with relying on an AlfaTrack or a command 8, is that I can
easily foresee a time when Avid will discontinue support, possibly in
the next release. So I’d rather spend £60 on Reaper and get VST
support, rather than spending £200 or more to recreate what I could
previously do for free with Sonar.

Yeah, same experience here, although they're no longer being

Still, for the price of one second hand, they're a neat tool to have

+1 on the Alphatrack, they're wicked little units.

David,, if you can get your hands on an alpha track, that would

Alas you can not. Perhaps if the plugin parameters could be

I
think this also allows me to control send faders as well as
track and
busfaders. At least that's a start, but I could buy Reaper for

control anything I wanted with midi.

OK, I'll stop moaning. I've been suckered into using ProTools -
it's

extremely accessible - and so I'll just have to put up with its
idiosyncratic quirks, which, let's face it, are driven by making
money
through forcing you to buy proprietary software. The Avid Artist
control
surfaces, which allow you to control plugins, cost over £1000.
Not

sure
I'm going to earn enough from audio to justify that.

Pro Tools 11 on Mac Pro instalation procedures

2015-02-16 Thread Rui Vilarinho
So, I believe finally I have all I need to install Pro Tools on my Mac Pro
.

I have a Thunderboult terabite external disc; just arrived .
I have 11Rack, USB interface .
I have BCF2000 controler .
I have iLok gismo .
But, concerning Pro Tools; , must I go to AVID website and register and load
it right?
At this stage, what should I expect? a Pt11 download with straight
automatically instalation ?
Or, a huge file will be downloaded to my Mac and only after I will gonna
execute the installer ?
Should I also expect at the instalation stage, to define the Thunderboult
external disc directory for audio samples and so on ?

Yet, at what stage I will gonna need to insert the license on iLok ?

For the record, It's still Mavericks !
Should I update it ?

Well, as you can see I have doubts concerning next imperative steps to
instal Pt11 and starting making magic !

Thanks in advance,
Rui Vilarinho
