Hi Remo
Are using some kind of autonomous app/scrpt to block them ? If so, what kind
of app/script are you using for drop them ?

[qmailtoaster] Problems with ownership in queue/local

2007-05-02 Thread Andreas Galatis
Hi List,

Today I upgraded my qmail-toaster on suse 10.1 . The update worked fine but
since Mails to be delivered stay in the queue.
My send/current log says:
delivery 788: deferral: Sorry,_message_has_wrong_owner._(#4.3.5)/
@400046391b812fd5c7ec status: local 0/10 remote 0/60
@400046391b830a16cd44 status: exiting

Looking at the files they are owned by root:vchkpw

I do not find where the owner is not set correctly

Any help would be much appeciated

I'm pretty new to the Linux world so I'm not sure how to handle the
upgrade. I stopped clamd then did an rpm -Uvh clamav-90.3-1.3.13.src.rpm.
It returned a 100% progress bar looking like it installed, but the version
still comes back as 90.1. What am I missing?
The way you installed the ...src.rpm you jhave teh sources in
your /usr/src... tree.
You should have built it by dooing a rpmbuild --rebuild --with Your
distrocode ...src.rpm
If this build is successfull you find the .rpm-package
in /usr/src/.../packages/...

Then you can install it with your commmand.

Andreas

I'm also running Symantec SMTP security for the scanning front end on
separate servers. When I start pushing mail from that into QMT, I get a
bunch of errors back in Symantec saying the server temporarily rejected the
message (missing end dot). Once they start, mail literally dribbles into
the QMT and I only have a couple small domains pointing to it. I'm
thinking it's the clam causing this? I did stop clam but it doesn't seem
to slow the errors so maybe not clam.

Like I said, I'm new to the Linux world. I am trying to convert to QMT
after running Merak for about 10yrs. If I can get this stabilized, I can
get moving to the migration of about 100 domains and 300 users... oh
 joy...

Thanks again to all that provide support here. I'm sure once I get this
running I'll switch from asking to answering these questions.

Have a look at qmail-remove here:

Have you verified what type of mails yozu have in the queue? If that is just

The most effective thing I've found to do is implement throttling via

Have a look at sshdfilter. a tool written for ssh-attacks but can be

Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: SMTP communication problem

2007-12-08 Thread Andreas Galatis
The answer you mention hermes.shawbinary.com #5.5.0 smtp;553
sorry, that domain
isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1) is the regular error-code if
the sender did not authenticate.
If this server has no A record that will be the next problem.

One other thing I just noticed, but the sending email server

And the MX for their domain points to mail.shawbinary.com.

Could this hostname that exists on the server (hermes.shawbinary.com)
be the issue since there is no A record for it?

  videoconference:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:

And if there are multiple recipients in either the to field of the
cc filed, they all register one per line in the log files.

Now when I get these errors forwarded to me, I look into the log
files, and I noticed that the format is:

  12-07 08:44:53 simscan:[23047]:CLEAN (0.10/12.00):3.6680s:Monday
  videoconference:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:,
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

See how the recipients show 2 on the same log line? And the comma?

  Could that be the issue?

Has anyone seen this before? Am I barking up the wrong tree?

And then I am trying to figure out, is my server and related scanning
software screwing up the transaction? Or is it messed up before I even
  get it?

  Ideas?

If you have a mailserver your sender-domains should be reachable for replies.
The replier comes from external. isn't it?

[qmailtoaster] 550 5.7.1 Command rejected

2008-01-14 Thread Andreas Galatis
Hi list,

I have a customer trying to send a message to one server that replies always
with 550 5.7.1 Command rejected
I tested the server via telnet and got the same result when entering the

If the address does not come from the address-book (where it is mostly written
in the required format), nobody writes it that way.
How can I enforce qmail to write the signs around an email-address
whenever that is missing?

Any help is appreciated.

If I set the mail-address in it goes through graylisting.

I searched google for the error and found the where required, some

-n (don't mail. Use with -V to list accounts)
   -c (default, copy file)
   -h (use hard links)
   -s (use symbolic links)
To send to a whole domain:
/home/vpopmail/bin/vpopbull -f email_file virtual_domain.name

If you want to setup a mailing list with all domain-accounts just use -V to
list all accounts and feed that list to ezmlm for the mailing-list. (see man
ezmlm-sub how to bulk- subscribe them to an existing mailinglist)

Hope that helps

spamassassin is a internal daemon and can stay closed if you installed

Re: [qmailtoaster] Whitelist any domain

2009-09-24 Thread Andreas Galatis
That looks like you have spamdyke installed.

You can whitelist the IP of the server in your whitelist_ip-file that is
configured in your spamdyke.conf
Just put the IP on a line in that file.
If you have for example:
ip-whitelist-file=/var/qmail/control/whitelist_ip
in your spamdyke.conf
you add the IP of the sending server to the file:
/var/qmail/control/whitelist_ip
that's it

Nope. ezmlm does not have the same limitation that chkuser does, since
 it directly injects the messages.

Hi John,

Consider using worldmerge, shareware that works very good and pulls data out
of a database. It does not send via outlook but has it's own mailclient.
It's not free, but 40$ isn't exaggerated and it does a very good job.

This tool sends mails one per one.
Only if you use iptables recent, you will have to exclude the senders

Hi John,

I think Eric is right.
I have a client using world merge for a list with about 1000 subscribers
with no problem through qmail-toaster.

Nope. ezmlm does not have the same limitation that chkuser does, since
  it directly injects the messages.

Consider using worldmerge, shareware that works very good and pulls data
  out

It's not free, but 40$ isn't exaggerated and it does a very good job.

This tool sends mails one per one.
Only if you use iptables recent, you will have to exclude the senders
  ip-address from this rule.

  Andreas

Thanks Andreas for the suggestion. The database software we are using to
send out the emails is using a mail merge program that also sends out
emails one per one. I have several options, but the person sending the
emails likes using the Outlook option because it makes the emails more
personable. I assume the problem is, even though the program sends the
emails out one by one, that it sends them out fast enough that there is
not enough time in between each email, and chkuser thinks we are violating
  recipient and security policies.
Is there a time-out setting (SMTP?) before the next email can be sent so
it can be seen as a single email and not as a large group that might be
contributing to the chkuser violations? For example each email is sent
out from the database as a single email, but they are still being caught
by chkuser as exceeding the recipient limit. If there is a setting I can
change in qmailtoaster, let me know so I can test it.
  Thanks,
  John

It sounds to me like they're not being sent individually. If the were
individual, I don't think that chkuser would have any way of relating them.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Server Mail

2009-10-29 Thread Andreas Galatis
Hi Mike,

for my webservers, sending mail via toaster as relayserver I have the
following rule in /etc/tcprules.d/tcp.smtp:
ip.of.server.dotted:allow,RELAYCLIENT=,DKSIGN=/var/qmail/control/domainkeys/%/private,RBLSMTPD=,NOP0FCHECK=1
The server may relay, no authentication required.
If you use spamdyke you should add the ip's in the whitelist-ip file too.

 To All,

are other CentOS and RedHat servers.

I am having issues with mail from the other servers as these are running
Sendmail by default. The problem lies in the fact that I can send messages
from the Sendmail servers to the Toasters Servers, as long as they are
within the same network and they are not an alias/forward account.

The real issue is CHKUSER does its job too well and it rejects messages
from the Sendmail servers, if it's to be sent to another account or
network. This is the type of error I get...

 @40004ae9186406b54edc CHKUSER rejected sender: from
 r...@backup.mydomain.com:: remote
backup.mydomain.com:unknown:77.60.23.95 rcpt : invalid sender MX

I understand that there are issues with servers that are not really
configured as a full Mail server, but what can I do to rectify this error.

Can someone please let me know what I need to do to the sendmail.cf file to
get around this. Or what needs to be done to the Qmail Toaster settings to
 allow the incorrect MX issue.

 Cheers
 Mike Canty

I believe it defaults to 5 or something similar. It would only effect
SpamAssassin anyway, and I've come to not really rely on SpamAssassin to
block most of my spam. SpamDyke catches nearly all of it. If he's getting
a lot of spam through, SpamAssassin is likely not the answer, blocking it

Hi Patrick,

unpack the tar.gz
cp themes/outlook.php to your squirrelmail-folder

edit config/config.php
append the themes- list with

$theme[33]['NAME'] = 'Outlook';
adapt number [33] to your installation

Now the user has the choice to select Outlook from under Options View

Roundcube looks promising, but am wondering just how far along it is,

more Outlookish would be great, but I don't think they ever plan that.
Just need some hints, and something that is easy to install and

You can find the plugin here: http://squirrelmail.org/plugin_view.php?id=234
When logged in to squirrelmail, go to OPtions Account Administration
You will be asked for the current password and can then change password, set
forwarders or autoresponders.

Re: [qmailtoaster] question concerning qmail queue

Hi Rajesh,

have a look at the iptables- module recent. It logs connections on the desired
ports, counting new connections in a table and, when a threshold is reached,
blocks the concerned ip.

Consider running a script that looks at the blocked ips to resolve the problem
on the infected PC.

 qmail queue.

if the number of emails in the queue exceeds say 100 then open every email
in the queue, track the ips and if any one is repeated more than 50 times
block the ip address in iptables

 my questions

 Question no 1
will opening and reading the qmail queue cause any kind of corruption of
 the queue ?

 Question no 2
is there a better way to control such spammers by having a limit on the
number of emails per day or per hour thru one specific smtp authenticated
 user id and password ?

any ideas on this would be very helpful

Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: spam email routing query

2010-07-08 Thread Andreas Galatis
After having deleted some Mails and the user accesses the concerned folder
via squirrelmail he gets a failure notice saying the imap-connection was
interrupted.
In the logs I see the error message saying time went back, therefore
dovecot was stopped.
The error message is false, time is not manipulated, I run ntpd on all
servers. So I tried stopping the deleteoldmails script and have no more
problems with the folders, neither with time going back.
Since I use dovecot, my client can easily show all messages in the Folder
and delete the oldest himself, through squirrelmail. With courier it was
too slow to see large amount of Mails.

Andreas

Yes, it can be problematic. At the same time though, dovecot is very
robust, and is capable of recovering from inconsistencies such as this
automatically (all by itself). I would expect performance hits when
dovecot needs to rebuild indexes and such, but I would not expect a
failure of any kind. If it fails, I'd consider it a bug (and I expect
Timo the author would as well).

If you run into problems however, I think Andreas's remedy of deleting
the dovecot-files should indeed clear things up. I'd try to check first
though to be sure that dovecot isn't in the middle of rebuilding things
already. Not sure how I'd do that off hand (ps?/lsof?).

The first day the script deleted old messages, the client could not

I think the dovecot- index files where irritated because of missing

At least you would have to delete the dovecot-files in the concerned

Simply move the email from the centralized spambox to the inbox of

As usual, there's more than one way.

Which time stamps are you referring to?

On further thinking about this, I wouldn't do either. If you have

 I'd
use the maildrop program. You should realize though that at some point
dovecot's lda (deliver) is likely going to replace maildrop. With
 either

You could move the file to the appropriate inbox yourself and I

that would work, but using the lda would be 'better'. The lda really
should know what's going into the mailbox, for indexing and quota
 purposes.

I tested to connect to your server on port 25.

It takes about 2-3 min to get the greeting-banner (220 localhost.localdomain

For me that looks like your server takes ages to resolve my senders reverse

Did you configure the forwarders on your caching dns server on localhost?
How long does it take to resolve f.ex. 122.175.72.62 ?

Some times ago I had the same behaviour on a clients qmail-box where the

2010-07-12 Thread Andreas Galatis
Hi.

My experience was only when I deleted files.
I think dovecot does not complain if there are new files in the folder, but if
there are files missing, it complains.
I think it's normel that programs deliver mail into the folder, but normaly,
whitout dovecot no file is deleted. So dovecot thinks there is missing s.th.
and complains

I just tried out and deleted some mails in a Mailbox/cur Folder.
No problem.
I will investigate more on the error I had with my client and will tell

AW: [qmailtoaster] Re: suggestions on a new install

2014-11-01 Thread Andreas Galatis
Hi,

the new script qt-install creates a firewall, not suitable, I have disabled
the script.
It would be very good to be asked (at least) , if you really want to be
locked-out if you reboot or logout.

Why is rpmforge still activated? This repo is no longer maintained and
should not be used.

I managed to get the new packages installed manually, it works now.

Some perl- requirements are packaged with qmail-packages (or obsolete when
those packages are installed.)

With best regards

Suit yourself. If you think you may need more than 4G, use 64bit.

I use 32 bit on VMs. If you're putting it on 64-bit hardware though, I'd use
the 64-bit version, just in case you want to increase ram.

spamdyke will go a long way toward that. It's part of the stock QMT6 now.

Hi Eric,

Thank you for pointing me in the direction.

I tried all you mentioned but could not delete

The folder '/var/lib/spamassassin/3.003002/updates_spamassassin_org/'
existed but was completely empty.

I copied the folder over from another toaster and since it works correctly,
now I am able to start spamd and to sa-update.

But:

Verifying the /etc/cron.daily/sa-update I found:

The cron is still trying to stop and start spamd in
/var/qmail/supervise/spamd

You have to laugh when you get spammed from

Also a full country blocking address list would be nice

Outlook didn't connect with the new server, asked for passwords...

The connection worked when I deleted the first account and restarted
creating a new account, same credentials, just another servername.

Now I have a new issue:

The client moves mailst o a subfolder, some seconds afterwards findest he
mail in both, the subfolder and back again in INFOLDER.

and password. The account works, I know that much because I can log into it

[qmailtoaster] No Authentication with nss-softokn

Hi List,

yesterday I installed an update on nss-softokn-3.14.3-22 on my

Sometime afterwards clients, all with outlook, complained they could not
send mails anymore. They were asked repeatedly for the password.

Yum had a problem with the new nss-softokn, I had to repair yum and rpm.

(See here why and how to fix yum:
https://techjourney.net/centos-yum-rpm-error-rpmts_hdrfromfdno-rpmdbnextiter

Finally I had to downgrade to nss-softokn-3.14.3-17 and
nss-softokn-3.14.3-17-freebl.

Fortunately my toaster works as before.

[qmailtoaster] Problems logging in after fresh Installation on CentOS7

2018-10-16 Thread Andreas Galatis

Hello,

I have a toaster on CentOS7, installed with the qt_install.sh

Then I restored the databse from a toaster from CentOS6.

Some clients had problems logging in, mostly through webmail (roundcube
because of the license), while outlook or thundrebird worked.

I searched the logs and found missing libraries, found them in
dovecot-mysql, not beeing installed.

There seams to be a missing dependancy for this package.

Maybe this could help others

In qmail You're properly using /var/qmail/control/tlsclientciphers

with Mozillas 'modern' ciphers 4.0.

(found testing the Nginx config)

The 5.5 list contains :

ssl_ciphers'TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256:TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384:TLS_CHACHA20_POLY1305_SHA256';

The 4.0 list contains:

These are matched against the openssl ciphers that are located on

Nginx can be setup as a MAIL proxy and therefore may be the reason
for Your issue ??

or maybe it's just a coincidence ?

from antispameurope.com I get the following error:

Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: Error on greeting

2022-02-07 Thread Andreas Galatis

Hi Eric,

they told me they couldn't delist my IP because on the website unet.de
was no legal information of the owner.

They need:
1. Servername indicating purpose of the server (mail.unet.de should be ok)
2. ip-address resolving to servername (ptr-record = mail.unet.de)
3. legal  info about owner (fixed)

and then it takes time to get it on the whitelist.
The address to contact them is: postmas...@rx.t-online.de

I did the same for microsoft (outlook...)

[qmailtoaster] Login with alias

2022-02-06 Thread Andreas Galatis

Hi,

I just migrated from an old Qmailtoaster to
qmail-1.03-3.3.5.qt.md.el8.x86_64

I have clients login in with alis domainnames or users. It worked always
but with the new toaster stopped working

Is there a way to reenable login with aliasdomains or alias accounts?

Thanks to all for your oppinion, I think I will go for Rocky on Xeon.
The image is available from my hoster (hetzner) so I get updates from
his mirror.

The install procedure shold be the same as for Springdale?

/Fellow QMT enthusiasts:
/

/I became concerned about the future of CentOS a week or so ago
///(not a premonition just my natural paranoia) /prior to their
announcement two days back and visited centos.org
<http://centos.org> to relieve my fears. I was confident at that
point that having gotten QMT/CentOS 8 ready I was good to go for
~10 years. My confidence MAY have been hasty. I'm still not sure
what drawbacks 'stream' is going to bring, if any, and like Angus
am apprehensive. It's supposed to be an intermediate environment
between Fedora and RHEL. In my opinion, to release CentOS 8 and
then move it from downstream to upstream after people have
already migrated is short-sighted at the very least, and its name
Community Enterprise OS (8) is now a misnomer. Living in somewhat
of a cocoon, I was completely unaware that RH "joined" CentOS.
I've heard some say that we've been freeloading off CentOS for
years and now it's time to pay up. Never mind that a free kernel
is used and we actually test the software and report bugs. That
said, I have REALLY enjoyed using CentOS since the beginning.
/

/That said, having a look at the old spec files from *-toaster
designation days when we built the QMT for specific platforms,
Fedora, was among them along with Suse, Mandrake, so, at the
beginning QMT was used in a non-Enterprise environment. Anyway...
/

/Personally, I'm interested in both Debian and FreeBSD and would
like to go back halfway to multi-platform builds while keeping
the current QMT/CentOS 8 offering. This would mitigate the
problems, if there are any, we are seeing now (hopefully). I
guess it just depends on when (or if) the mega-corps buy up all
of the Linux distributions and hang us all out to dry. Given the
Felliniesque nature of the world today nothing would surprise me
anymore.
/

/One advantage of having a ports like mail server is the ability,
if one is inclined to dig a little beyond binary installs, to
make changes on the fly without having to wait for packages from
the repo./

/I've tried to install FreeBSD, although somewhat half-heartedly,
on Proxmox serveral times with no success. If anyone has any
hints I'm all ears...just my 2 cents./

/So, if anyone is working on installing QMT on another platform
please keep us apprised of your successes. If you feel like
writing it up, I'll post it to the web site.
/

/I'll be looking into converting to *.deb packages (like rpm's,
binary ease of install) in some way (I tried using alien...on the
website) which can be used on Ubuntu and Debian Linux. Back to
work for me...

I also need to make a fresh install. So that is why I'm curious.

For server stuff - always would go for ECC if you can and it's
reasonably busy machine. It doesn't have to cost arm and a leg since
there is aftermarket hw to snatch with reasonable prices. It's
really complicated to debug a server with memory problems because it
might not crash the whole OS, just crashing processes at random.

As Linus Torvalds has said  - we never know how many bad kernel
dumps have been submitted  and there is nothing wrong with the code,
just bad memory in the system.

Also if failure occures, you will know where and what dimm is
broken. And if you are lucky it get's corrected by ECC on the fly.

[qmailtoaster] Best Config for new server

2022-01-20 Thread Andreas Galatis

Hi all,

I use the qmail-toaster since many years and are very glad with it. The
system is very stable, secure and configurable with the features we need.

I need to install a new Server for qmail and migrate the installation
from CentOS7.

What is the preferred OS, (Rocky or Springdale)

Is there a big advantage of ECC-Ram (with XEON) over Standard Ram (with
Core7)?

Thanks in advance
