Hi Phil, Am Sonntag, 17. Juni 2007 16:07 schrieb Phil Leinhauser: Thanks for the efforts Jake, and the rest! The reason I'm looking for QTP is I have the latest QMT installed but the Clamd is being a CPU hog. I saw a reference to a bug and updating to the latest Clam cures it. I have the dev. Version of Clam toaster; 1.3.13. I'm pretty new to the Linux world so I'm not sure how to handle the upgrade. I stopped clamd then did an rpm -Uvh clamav-90.3-1.3.13.src.rpm. It returned a 100% progress bar looking like it installed, but the version still comes back as 90.1. What am I missing? The way you installed the ...src.rpm you jhave teh sources in your /usr/src... tree. You should have built it by dooing a rpmbuild --rebuild --with Your distrocode ...src.rpm If this build is successfull you find the .rpm-package in /usr/src/.../packages/... Then you can install it with your commmand. Bye Andreas I'm also running Symantec SMTP security for the scanning front end on separate servers. When I start pushing mail from that into QMT, I get a bunch of errors back in Symantec saying the server temporarily rejected the message (missing end dot). Once they start, mail literally dribbles into the QMT and I only have a couple small domains pointing to it. I'm thinking it's the clam causing this? I did stop clam but it doesn't seem to slow the errors so maybe not clam. Like I said, I'm new to the Linux world. I am trying to convert to QMT after running Merak for about 10yrs. If I can get this stabilized, I can get moving to the migration of about 100 domains and 300 users... oh joy... Thanks again to all that provide support here. I'm sure once I get this running I'll switch from asking to answering these questions. Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: SMTP communication problem
The answer you mention hermes.shawbinary.com #5.5.0 smtp;553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1) is the regular error-code if the sender did not authenticate. If this server has no A record that will be the next problem. Andreas Am Samstag, 8. With qmail you have the binary /home/vpopmail/bin/vpopbull usage: vpopbull [options] -f [email_file] [virtual_domain] [...] -v (print version number) -V (verbose) -f email_file (file with message contents) -e exclude_email_addr_file (list of addresses to exclude) -n (don't mail. The database software we are using to send out the emails is using a mail merge program that also sends out emails one per one. I have several options, but the person sending the emails likes using the Outlook option because it makes the emails more personable. I assume the problem is, even though the program sends the emails out one by one, that it sends them out fast enough that there is not enough time in between each email, and chkuser thinks we are violating recipient and security policies. Is there a time-out setting (SMTP?) before the next email can be sent so it can be seen as a single email and not as a large group that might be contributing to the chkuser violations? For example each email is sent out from the database as a single email, but they are still being caught by chkuser as exceeding the recipient limit. If there is a setting I can change in qmailtoaster, let me know so I can test it. Thanks, John It sounds to me like they're not being sent individually. If the were individual, I don't think that chkuser would have any way of relating them. - Qmailtoaster is sponsored by Vickers Consulting Group (www.vickersconsulting.com) Vickers Consulting Group offers Qmailtoaster support and installations. Hi Rafael, Why do you have disabled the spamdyke- ip-in-cc-rdns? #reject-ip-in-cc-rdns This spamdyke-rule catches about 30% of incoming mails because coming from dynamic addresses. Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: spam email routing query
After having deleted some Mails and the user accesses the concerned folder via squirrelmail he gets a failure notice saying the imap-connection was interrupted. In the logs I see the error message saying time went back, therefore dovecot was stopped. The error message is false, time is not manipulated, I run ntpd on all servers. So I tried stopping the deleteoldmails script and have no more problems with the folders, neither with time going back. Since I use dovecot, my client can easily show all messages in the Folder and delete the oldest himself, through squirrelmail. With courier it was too slow to see large amount of Mails. Andreas Yes, it can be problematic. At the same time though, dovecot is very robust, and is capable of recovering from inconsistencies such as this automatically (all by itself). I would expect performance hits when dovecot needs to rebuild indexes and such, but I would not expect a failure of any kind. If it fails, I'd consider it a bug (and I expect Timo the author would as well). If you run into problems however, I think Andreas's remedy of deleting the dovecot-files should indeed clear things up. I'd try to check first though to be sure that dovecot isn't in the middle of rebuilding things already. As usual, there's more than one way. i don't want the email time stamps changed during this process. Which time stamps are you referring to? On further thinking about this, I wouldn't do either. If you have dovecot installed, I would use dovecot's deliver program. Otherwise, I'd use the maildrop program. You should realize though that at some point dovecot's lda (deliver) is likely going to replace maildrop. With either program, I don't expect you'd need to do any parsing of the message in your script - just pass it on to the lda. I could be wrong about this though. You could move the file to the appropriate inbox yourself and I believe that would work, but using the lda would be 'better'. Why is rpmforge still activated? This repo is no longer maintained and should not be used. I managed to get the new packages installed manually, it works now. Some perl- requirements are packaged with qmail-packages (or obsolete when those packages are installed.) Hi Eric, they told me they couldn't delist my IP because on the website unet.de was no legal information of the owner. They need: 1. Servername indicating purpose of the server (mail.unet.de should be ok) 2. ip-address resolving to servername (ptr-record = mail.unet.de) 3. legal info about owner (fixed) and then it takes time to get it on the whitelist. Thanks to all for your oppinion, I think I will go for Rocky on Xeon. The image is available from my hoster (hetzner) so I get updates from his mirror. I was confident at that point that having gotten QMT/CentOS 8 ready I was good to go for ~10 years. My confidence MAY have been hasty. I'm still not sure what drawbacks 'stream' is going to bring, if any, and like Angus am apprehensive. It's supposed to be an intermediate environment between Fedora and RHEL. In my opinion, to release CentOS 8 and then move it from downstream to upstream after people have already migrated is short-sighted at the very least, and its name Community Enterprise OS (8) is now a misnomer. Living in somewhat of a cocoon, I was completely unaware that RH "joined" CentOS. I've heard some say that we've been freeloading off CentOS for years and now it's time to pay up. Never mind that a free kernel is used and we actually test the software and report bugs. That said, I have REALLY enjoyed using CentOS since the beginning. / /That said, having a look at the old spec files from *-toaster designation days when we built the QMT for specific platforms, Fedora, was among them along with Suse, Mandrake, so, at the beginning QMT was used in a non-Enterprise environment. Anyway... / /Personally, I'm interested in both Debian and FreeBSD and would like to go back halfway to multi-platform builds while keeping the current QMT/CentOS 8 offering. This would mitigate the problems, if there are any, we are seeing now (hopefully). I guess it just depends on when (or if) the mega-corps buy up all of the Linux distributions and hang us all out to dry. Given the Felliniesque nature of the world today nothing would surprise me anymore. / /One advantage of having a ports like mail server is the ability, if one is inclined to dig a little beyond binary installs, to make changes on the fly without having to wait for packages from the repo./ /I've tried to install FreeBSD, although somewhat half-heartedly, on Proxmox serveral times with no success. I also need to make a fresh install. So that is why I'm curious. For server stuff - always would go for ECC if you can and it's reasonably busy machine. It doesn't have to cost arm and a leg since there is aftermarket hw to snatch with reasonable prices. It's really complicated to debug a server with memory problems because it might not crash the whole OS, just crashing processes at random. As Linus Torvalds has said - we never know how many bad kernel dumps have been submitted and there is nothing wrong with the code, just bad memory in the system. Also if failure occures, you will know where and what dimm is broken. And if you are lucky it get's corrected by ECC on the fly. [qmailtoaster] Best Config for new server
Hi all, I use the qmail-toaster since many years and are very glad with it. The system is very stable, secure and configurable with the features we need. I need to install a new Server for qmail and migrate the installation from CentOS7. What is the preferred OS, (Rocky or Springdale) Is there a big advantage of ECC-Ram (with XEON) over Standard Ram (with Core7)?
