THE ROLLING STONES LYRICS
"Mother's Little Helper"

What a drag it is getting old
"Kids are different today,"
I hear ev'ry mother say
Mother needs something today to calm her down
And though she's not really ill
There's a little yellow pill
She goes running for the shelter of a mother's little helper
And it helps her on her way, gets her through her busy day
"Things are different today,"
I hear ev'ry mother say
Cooking fresh food for a husband's just a drag
So she buys an instant cake and she burns her frozen steak
And goes running for the shelter of a mother's little helper
And two help her on her way, get her through her busy day
Doctor please, some more of these
Outside the door, she took four more
What a drag it is getting old
"Men just aren't the same today"
I hear ev'ry mother say
They just don't appreciate that you get tired
They're so hard to satisfy, You can tranquilize your mind
So go running for the shelter of a mother's little helper
And four help you through the night, help to minimize your plight
Doctor please, some more of these
Outside the door, she took four more
What a drag it is getting old
"Life's just much too hard today,"
I hear ev'ry mother say
The pusuit of happiness just seems a bore
And if you take more of those, you will get an overdose
No more running for the shelter of a mother's little helper
They just helped you on your way, through your busy dying day
Doctor please, some more of these
Outside the door, she took four more
What a drag it is getting old

I personaly know a Vet named John, who was a C5-6 and 10 years post. He is
going through tendon stretching in his hands after a sudden recovery.
His room-mate was smoking and caught his bed on fire.
His screaming woke John out of a deep sleep and before he realized it, he
was standing and beating the flames out in the bed across the room.
True story that happened in Hines VA.
Doctors call him a miracle recovery, as they can't explain it.

The Trouble With Hate Crimes Laws
French film star Brigitte Bardot is on trial in France. The prosecution is
seeking a two-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of nearly $24,000.
Her crime -- assaulting a police officer? DUI? Tax evasion? No. She is on
trial for "inciting religious hatred" -- specifically for insulting Muslims
by exercising her freedom of speech. In the past Bardot has complained about
the "Islamisation of France," in a published letter, referring to the
growing Muslim population, "I am fed up with being under the thumb of this
population which is destroying us, destroying our country and imposing its
acts."
I don't often defend celebrities, but Bardot is not just an angry old crank
without a cause. Her cause is freedom. I have written about the Muslim
"youth" who have set Paris ablaze in riots that lasted for days. I have
written about the creeping imposition of Sharia law in England. I have noted
how a judge in Germany (a female judge no less) dismissed a Muslim woman's
domestic violence abuse case because, according to the judge, the Koran
permits the beating of women. Wherever Islam gains a significant foothold,
the dominant culture soon finds itself bending to the will of Allah out of
political correctness, coercion or both—and women often suffer the most.
There is a warning here for men and women of faith and those who cherish
freedom regarding the threat to freedom presented by the nexus of the
radical Left and the sympathizers of Islamofascism. Both are using hate
crimes legislation to silence their critics. Wherever such laws have been
passed, a tyranny of "tolerance" has been imposed upon the people, and
religious liberty and freedom of speech have suffered. We have reported on
religious leaders in Europe who have been harassed by the authorities and
even sentenced to jail for preaching the biblical view of human sexuality.
We have reported on politicians who have been fined for daring to suggest
that traditional marriage and heterosexuality are the norm. We have reported
on columnists who are facing government inquisitions for being critical of
Islam.
Is America destined to suffer the same fate? Will this report be silenced by
similar laws now threatening to send Brigitte Bardot to jail? Will James
Dobson and Rush Limbaugh be forced off the public airwaves? Liberals in
Congress have tried to resurrect the so-called "Fairness Doctrine," and they
tried to attach "hate crimes" legislation to the Defense budget. My friends,
freedom demands eternal vigilance. If men and women of faith disengage from
the public policy process and refuse to participate in the political arena,
America will cease to be a land of liberty and opportunity.
Ronald Reagan once said, "If we forget that we are one nation under God, we
will be a nation gone under." Pope Benedict XVI reminded us this week that
"a democracy without values can lose its very soul." In the struggle to
defend freedom here at home, we must never tire or despair. You can help by
sharing this report with friends and family members. Ask them if they are
registered to vote. If they are not, of if they know others who are not,
direct them to our website, where they can register online. And be certain

Washington, D.C. The Summit is being sponsored by FRC Action, American

Passover
This weekend, Jews around the world will celebrate Passover, commemorating
the night when the angel of death passed over the houses of the Israelites,
while bringing a terrible judgment upon their enemies. And with the exodus
of the Israelites from Egypt, the Jewish nation was born. Liat Collins,
writing in the Jerusalem Post , offered this stirring explanation of the
holiday: "Passover, Pessah, is the Festival of Freedom - hag haherut. That
we continue to celebrate it after three millennia is perhaps in itself a
miracle. It symbolizes everything we are proud of: survival against the
odds; national identity; and a return to the Promised Land. All the things
for which we have been admired -- and reviled -- over thousands of years.
True, the country is far from perfect. And it exists in a very far from
ideal world. In the spirit of Pessah, however, there is still room for h

You pay taxes?
Are you saying before President Bush you didn't pay taxes?

Hate to burst your bubble, but CONGRESS makes the budget and pass the tax
laws.
Believe it or not, President Bush wasn't the one in power when the DEMOCRATS
started taxing Social Security.
BTW, LBJ opened up Social Security money to pay for his entitlement
programs.
It was ALWAYS the Democrats who played with Social Security while playing
the fear card that Republicans "were" going to cut benefits.
Personaly, I'm better off now than when Slick Willie was playing games.

Howdy,

Personaly, I've been so busy that it's been months since I've even opened

I'm designing a website for a non-profit group, still learning new Graphics

Hope everyone is doing fair to middle-in, and will post again before

Life at Large
The Disability Dollar As A Cash Cow

Jun 25 12:27

By Mark E. Smith

If you have a problem, throw money at it – at least when it comes to
disability-related politics.

Here we are on the eve of another blockbuster of a campaign season, racing
toward the nonstop political pandering that is the presidential primaries,
then the big election of '08. But, for those with disabilities, where are we
in the political power struggle – that is, which candidates are looking out
for our economic and societal equity, like those looking out for virtually
every other special-interest group, from tobacco companies to transgender
constituents?

We are nowhere to be found in the special-interest, cash-fed cow that is
modern-day politics. We're still rolling around with picket signs, asking
candidates and elected officials to just do the right thing, when such
political tactics are, well, passé. What we need is our own formal advocacy,
an AARP or NRA, that serves as our collective body, a political machine
rolling through Capitol Hill, contributing cash, opening doors, shaking
hands, and getting our agenda on the table. If expensive cigars and campaign
contributions serve most other special-interests groups, then that's what we
should do, too

But, we're not in the game – namely because we're not willing, as a group,
to put our campaign contributions where our complaints are. We don't run
with the PAC, and we're not willing to flex our monetary muscle. And I don't
get it. In 2008, clout over who's elected, who's defeated, and which
legislation is supported will be written on checks during 2007. So why
aren't we writing checks?

Some will say that we're among the poorest of minority groups, with the
highest unemployment rate, that we are at an economic disadvantage in the
political process.

But aren't we also among the largest minority groups, 46-million strong,
including 12.6-million of us with severe disabilities? Even my poor math
proves that if 200,000 of us – a fraction of those with disabilities – kick
in $10 each, that's $2-million toward a focused special-interest group.
Trust me, at a $5,000 contribution per candidate and official – which will
typically get you access and an ear in some capacity – $2-million would go a
long way toward the 2008 disability agenda and beyond.

Now, you're probably thinking that all this sounds fine and dandy, but who's
going to organize this disability political powerhouse that's going to
spread goodwill and cash throughout Washington for those with disabilities?

I say we start by enlisting the help of – and sending our support to – those
carrying the picket signs.

The "Islamic Fascists" have been building their brainwashed puppets of

They've been killin Americans for "OVER" 30rs.
We didn't start WWIII, they did.

More-over, had we not removed Sadamn from Kuwait, the middle east

The big picture isn't pretty, but leaving Iraq with its terrorist

It wasn't untill after he was caught, that the wacky Kadafi quickly

Big surprise was his "Iraqi" scientists. No way in hell Sadamned would
have allowed his scientists to develope a nuke for "another" dictator.
Anyone who doubts this need only look at his history and the facts.
He was paying off Kadafi with money scammed from the "Oil for Food"

Hi Joan,
When I got injured 11 yrs ago, my first computer was a MAC SE, with a

Now my video card has ALMOST 50x more RAM than it had (512MB).

Not only can I control lights etc, but I can see who is at the door,

I can also arm an alarm or set my computer and/or VCR to record via

However, I would do some searching on the web to see if you can find what
you need a little less expensive. There are several reliable vendors on
eBay that sell many of these components. Also keep in mind that you don't
need all of them, but you do need at a minimum the remote control,
transceiver, and at least some light or appliance modules to control the

Re: [QUAD-L] Wow, Whoda Guessed This ??

2007-04-19 Thread Tim Thompson

How old are you John?
(just asking due to what it seems you were taught in school.)
Our "Forefathers" are the signers of our Constitution.
They didn't invent slavery, and some had to "compromise" their
personal feelings in order to get all 13 colonies to sign.
Thomas Jefferson went as far as to say he hoped the creator would
forgive them for it. Due to "State Law" he couldn't free his slaves
untill he died. Which he did.
Like most of our Forefathers who owned slaves, he treated them well,
more like family than a possesion.
Are you even aware that it is wrong to judge them according to what
was a common practice "then"?
They made sure the Constitution could be ammended, but that the Bill
of Rights couldn't be. The first ten Amendments are restrictions on
the government.
President Lincoln was the first to violate them. Yet he is considered
to be one of our greatest presidents.
The "Liberal" indoctrination by our public school system since the mid
70's is one of the greatest tragedies of our history. It has robbed 2
generations of an honest education, destroyed our heritage, and
created a flock of sheeple who lack personal responsibility.
The college shooting was a result of this moral vacuum.
When guns could be bought in hardware stores, these tragedies didn't happen.
So it is something else.
Like a lack of respect for human life.
This outcome was debated during Roe vs Wade.
Looks like thev Secular Progressives will never take responsibility
for their failed social experiments.

After JC taught the "civilized" world through example on how to live,
we've been left to live our lives with freedom of choice.
Intervention would prevent that.

The night after my accident, 4/19/96, I laid in bed thinking it would
be a good time to check out.
A voice boomed through my head saying if it had been my time I
wouldn't be lying there.

Now I personaly don't believe in organized religion, however I do
recognize "Christian Values".
IMHO the far Right fails to live by the example JC gave us.
The "Big Bangers" have to keep inventing new theories to fit their
preconcieved notions.
In "Nature" (the physical Universe) one can't create something out of nothing.
Period.
IMHO "The Creator" is an Unknown factor, who began by seperating his
thoughts into energy and matter. As planned, the creation of a
beginning would lead to life, and he created an awful lot of solar
systems and galaxies for it to flourish.
Since "energy" can't be destroyed, then it is likely that our life
force will continue on in some form, somewhere.
However an eternity of singing hymns is probably not what he had in mind ;^)

Don't know what the next life has to offer, but not in a hurry to
unwrap that surprise.

human beings have to believe in something to go on, and if they think some
higher power is watching over them they might live a better life. And
religion makes it easy to control the masses. Has anyone ever also realized

Angie,
I do respect your opinion, even if I don't agree with it. You at least state
that you define "a life" as having a consciousness. I am not aware if an 8
month old fetus has a consciousness or not but I would consider that stage
of development a life. That is why I define a human life from the point of
conception, joining of a egg and sperm.

You wonder why you shouldn't have the option to use embryos for research
just because you don't consider it a life? You don't see a problem with the
premise of your question? You don't consider it a life so why should anyone
prevent you from taking it to better your life.

50-150 cells that don't have a consciousness, what I consider life. And
these 50-150 cells are just going to be destroyed anyway. Why not let them
serve a purpose.

Shouldn't those of us who want a cure to be found, including using embryonic
stem cell research, be able to have that option? If you don't want to be
treated, potentially cured and able-bodied again someday from what this
research finds, just don't accept that treatment. Stay trapped in your body
if you'd like. But don't take that chance for living again, really living,

The public discussion of human embryo research has too often lacked
intellectual honesty, which has only compounded the confusion of an issue of
great scientific and moral complexity, say Robert P. George professor of
jurisprudence at Princeton University and a member of the President's
Council on Bioethics and Rev. Thomas V. Berg, executive director of the
Westchester Institute for Ethics and the Human Person.

Consequently, there are certain facts on which people on either side of the
moral debate should be able to agree, say George and Berg. For example:
There is no "ban" on human embryonic stem cell (ESC) research in the United
States; the federal government has funded such research to the tune of $130
million dollars since 2001, and the United States continues to be the
international leader in the field. We are a long way away from therapies

S.5—Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2007 doesn't even do that; it just
states that the embryos were in excess of the clinical need of the
individuals seeking such treatment. and would never be implanted in a woman.

I want my spinal cord repaired so I can breathe without a ventilator and
possibly move independently, but I don't want it so badly that I will end
another human life just for the possible improve my own life. I don't
understand how those wanting to use stem cells from embryos can't comprehend
that. An embryo is a human life, and put into the right environment, will
continue to develop and grow. I'm not so self centered that improving my

There are other sources of pluripotent stem cells, sources such as umbilical

(therapeutic cloning) which I don't have a problem with.

On a side note, my cousin just gave birth to a son last week. He was the

Using unused embryos is not the same as organ donation because organ donor
are dead before organs are harvested. Removing stem cells from an embryo
kills the embryo.

I've listened to Dr Kerr from Johns Hopkins talk a few times about his

watch his presentation at the 2006 symposium here
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2767307331641285489&hl=en
he mentioned that they want to use the embryos created for IVF that are
deformed (something to that effect) and can not be used for in-vitro
treatment. Now I can go along with using those that could not be used to
result in a pregnancy.

I agree with S. 30: A bill to intensify research to derive human pluripotent

There are non-controversial alternatives worth exploring; such as the
reprogramming of ordinary somatic (body) cells, the derivation of stem cells
from amniotic fluid, and (assuming that it can be shown that the product is
not an embryo), altered nuclear transfer.
Concerns about embryo destruction are not only religious; but merely a
healthy respect for the human capacity for doing evil in pursuit of the
good.
The search for cures is not the only motive behind ESC research,; many
scientists are interested only in enhancing basic scientific knowledge of
such things as cell signaling, tissue growth and early human development.

Universal healthcare will be seen shortly regardless of financial or citizen

health cures through stem cell, isn't that technology so hugely awesome to
offset possible failures? Simply a medical fact kept in the dark ages.
Pharmaceuticals and healthcare lobbyists like medical care comfortably just
the way it is. Reminds me when people were afraid computers would take away
jobs. Hilary wants to take us there (cures through stem cells) as badly as
Kennedy wanted to go to the moon, Bill Clinton to put a computer into every
classroom, save SSI and balance the budget, or George W. B whatever it is.

As quadriplegic, we are a minority within the disabled community. A

It is a minority which binds us together, regardless of race, creed,

Whatever you thought you were before, you are now a liberal, unless you got

Thanks for the good responses regarding my night long shivering after I have
been in bed a half hour or more. The hours of shivering are not cold
related, but the ideas of an infection some place are interesting.

As long as I stay sitting the shivers do not begin. As long as I continue
to stay in bed supine and flat, the shivering will not start again unless I
sit up for several hours. As directed by several list members I saw a
doctor. Urine and blood tests were negative.

I have taken to sleeping in my chair sitting, or to sleep in bed at 30
degrees or more to avoid the night long ordeal awake shivering
uncontrollable for fours. So, still not to rule out an infection yet, but I
am still requesting ideas or someone else who has done this.

The members contributing on this list have more savvy, experience, and
knowledge than most doctors I've worked with in my years as a c/5
quadriplegic.

for my headache.
Well, this went on untill 9 pm. My b.p. finally lowered. An emergency room
doc showed up at 9:30pm. [5.5 hours later] He asked, "Why did I think I
needed a doctor". I told him about AD and sked him if he ever treated it
before. He said yes and that is all i remember because i was so drugged up.
So, around 10pm, i felt funny and i asked the nurse to check my bp. She did
and it was 60 over 30. So, they put me on drugs to raise my bp. Around
2:30am, my bp was around normal. They never removed the packing until
sometime after this. Then my bp stayed normal and I went home at 11am.

There is alot more to the story that blows me away on how healthcare
officials do not listen to their patients and they think they know it all. I
had the systoms and causes in black and white. Wow!

Please let me know of any good website links to info about AD. I am making
it a mission that this does not happen to anyone else.

Hey yall,

I was in the hospital getting my colonoscopy 2 years ago and the iv they put
in me caused me to go into dysreflexia. I watched my blood pressure go up on
the machine right b4 my eyes. I was scared as hell and neither the people
prepping me for the colonoscopy or my mother believed anything was wrong. It
was a very scary momment for me because they were putting me asleep. With
the grace of god I made it through, but Im kinda bitter because noone ever
believes anything I say when I go in the hospital.

 Hey all,
I rely on agency help for all my care. Of course nobody wants to work on
major holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's, especially with

coverage ultimately your responsibility? What do you do when you have
nobody? The holidays are suppose to be happy times but it's tough when you
don't have the help you need.

Re: [QUAD-L] Fwd: A Different Christmas Poem

2006-11-18 Thread Tim Thompson

GREAT POEM.

My ex-wife and I use to have a housefull during the holidays.
As a Sgt, I always had fellow airmen who were alone over as members of
the family.
Our home cooked meals were better than the chow halls, and our duplex
suddenly felt like a home.

It is really nice of you to do this. When I was a young soldier I really
appreciated it when the families took us in for the holiday meals. I still
remember my battalion commander inviting three of his sergeants over to his
family's house for Thanksgiving. I just happened to be one of those three.
Being alone in the barracks over the holidays is one of the most depressing
time periods I can recall. This will be my sister-in-law and brothers first
time hosting a holiday meal, so if it goes I might contact MacDill Air Force
Base and see if there are any young soldiers, Marines, or airman that might
be interested in coming out for Christmas.

Re: [QUAD-L] A.D. - help

2006-11-15 Thread Tim Thompson

Sounds like some type of bladder trauma.
You might need to switch to an indwelling cath for a while for the
tissue to heal.
AD's can lead to a stroke.
Hope this helps.

Hi all,

Two nights ago I had my first major AD episode.(i say major because i get
mild AD when i void urine through my condom catheter and during bowel
program)

My episode consisted of a major headache, nausea, and blood rush to the
head.
I called my aide and she catheted me and i did my bowel regime.
I am not sure which one helped relieve but it recided.

I got up and felt okay all day. At 1am i have another espisode. My aide came
and catheted me and I felt fine.
I was okay all day again untill i voided some urine at 5:30pm. I had another
major head rush and headache.
It went away after i urinated.

So, i thought i better get checked out at the local "hick" emergency room.
The doctor told me i do not know what we can do about this and he has never
heard of AD. I told them to run a urine and blood test. Every test was
negative.

Now today, i get a head rush and pounding headache everytime i void urine
through condom catheter.
The AD is more intense now -since a major AD - then it usually was the past
10 years when i voided urine.

Does the AD leave a several day hangover of AD?

Like i said the AD sysptoms go away after i void. They do not continue. Even
the major AD episode did not leave the syptoms continue, they just went
away. Except a lingering minor headache.

I never had a major AD so I am not sure if something is still wrong with me
below my injury or if it is a lingering affect.

Has anyone else had lingering effects after AD?
Does the AD go completely away after you relieve the cause?

elicited my response:

Dan,
Over the last six months I have had difficulty getting my catheter into my
super pubic, once I even had to go down to a 20 French for a few weeks.
Right now I am still using a 22 and it does require me to twirl it as well
as putting a little more force behind it than we used to have to use. I
will be talking with my urologist on the 29th, so perhaps I can get back
with you after that appointment. I have a cystoscopy scheduled to remove
some of the bladder stones I have developed over the last few years.

I've had a SP for 2 years now. I change the cath (18 French) every 3 weeks.
Lately, it is becoming more and more difficult to remove the old cath. I
always make sure the balloon is completely deflated and If it doesn't slide
out easily, like it used to, I have my aide give it a twirl. Well, last
night nothing worked and my aide was afraid to pull too hard so I said give
it to me and I yanked it out. It bled some but the new one coated with KY
Jelly slipped right in.

My question to you fellow SP users is what do you think is going on? Why is
it getting more and more difficult to remove the old cath and still so easy
to insert the new one?
