Hey Wally, Im not clear on what you are concerned about, and my bike is a SO instead of a QB, but I've got a 44t ring at ~42mm chain line on a short (107?) PW bottom bracket. No problem with clearance, if that helps at all. On Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 11:24:21 AM UTC-8, Wally Estrella

[RBW] assessing smooth tread tire wear

Hey All, How does one best determine when a smooth tread tire, like a Jack Brown or Soma GR, is worn too thin? The other weekend I found I had exceeded the lifetime of a Soma GR tire when a flat seemed to be from wearing through it. That seems like something I'd rather not do that way.

Garth, I suppose, sure. Though really its the gear (ratio of chainring over cog) that you don't want, so you can blame it on either the cog or the ring. Are you configuring rings around a cog you don't want, or cogs around a ring you don't want? I suppose either point of view is equally valid.

It may help to think about how what you have that matches what you are considering feels. A 46x11 high gear will be the same as the 50x12 that you probably currently have as a 2nd highest gear. Is that high enough for you? A 30x30 low gear would, of course, be one to one. Do you have a one to
