Darn, I knew I spoke too soon. I had the machine running fine on the new kernel. Until I restarted her, and upon restart she says fsck.ext3 exited with error 7. (bus error). She has done it before and I cannot figure out why. I checked the logs and she shutdown the same as every other time.

GOOD NEWS!! I found the the bus error message is comming from installing the latest version of e2fs-progs. It was auto-updated with ximian redcarpet. (bugger). All I had to do was boot the RH7.2 in rescue mode, chroot into my file system and rpm -ivh e2fs-progs --froce, from the original RH7.2 cd

HI Slugs, I have a compaq with 96Mb in it. it boots and counts 96Mb as I've just put in 3x32Mb simms so that is all OK. running top on Debian reports mem: 63352k av, Does this mean linux is only seeing 64Mb? Is this normal or should top be reporting higher memory available and how do I fix it?

Hi Scott, Hmmm that didn't work. added the append=mem=96M to the bottom of lilo.conf and ran lilo. also rebooted. still 64mb (as reported by free) there is also another append= line in lilo.conf. i added a ; to the end of the append= line and put in mem=96M and closed the quotes. eg

The problem was that I missed the full-stop on the end of the MX record in the DNS records. IT is fixed now. The only question I have is: With this feature enabled, won't sendmail refuse to accept mail if the internet connection goes down, and thus it cannot reach external DNS servers ?
