4.0.14.3: CHUMP!! when exiting TB

2008-02-21 Thread MAU
Hello all,

Every now and then, not very often and also with 2 or 3 previous
versions, I get a CHUMP! (Critical stop sound) when exiting TB. There
is no error dialog of any kind and no entry in the exception log.

Has anybody else seen this?

Re: [The Bat! 4.0.14.3] Character Set not properly set in outgoing Messages

2008-02-21 Thread Volker Ahrendt
[Reply to: »Hendrik Oesterlin« · 2008-02-20 · 20:37 h (CET)]

Hello, Hendrik!

 All seem to be correct.

Do you have an macro in your template that could cause the strange
behaviour at your machine? I have only one macro in my template:
 %BLANK

Argh! - This drives me nuts!

Hours and hours I was searching for the root cause of this strange
behavior, yesterday. I found out that two of my eight accounts
contain this problem, but none of them used a macro or something else
which could change the character set.

But now you gave me the decisive hint. I tested with a blank template
like yours and voilá - the character set was okay! :-)

So I checked my template again and found out that the root cause was
the typographical dash ([alt]+0151). Wikipedia told me that Latin 9
does not contain this character:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_8859-15

Now I am thinking about turning to Unicode (utf-8) as default
character set. - Could this cause problems with other mail clients,
which receive my messages? I would not think so.

Thank you all for your help!

Cheers!
VA, who is now repairing his bat! ;-)

4.0.14.3: Extraneous characters when pasting as quoted

2008-02-21 Thread MAU
Hello all,

I saw this the first time yesterday but it is still happening today
after several TB restarts and even re-boots.

When I copy some text from the preview pane and then 'Past as Quotation'
I get an extra character at the end of the quoted paragraph that is
displayed as a square. See attached PNG. In one occasion yesterday I
got some 20 or 30 of these squares at the end of the paragraph.

Actually, I have just quoted below a paragraph from one of my messages
and, still at the editor, I do see the square at the end. Let's see
what happens when I send this message and get it back.

 - I double checked to see if I had 'Automatic check' selected as, due
to testing and the fact that menu icon may be a bit misleading because
it includes the red checkmark, I would not be the first time I had it
not selected. But it was. So, hey! My spell checker wasn't working!

Has anybody else seen something like this?

Re: How to create a german CSAPI user dictionary (was: Add words to german CSAPI not possible (was: Re: 4.0.14.3))

2008-02-21 Thread Martin Schuster
Hello MAU,

So I had a look at your registry settings (thanks for sending those
along) and noticing that while your settings had a key with the
correct locale id for each language ( 1034 for Spanish-Spain, 1033
for English-United States) the registry key my file was registered in
had a key of 7, obviously not a valid locale.

Did you have CSAPI German selected as the speller language when you
 created the user dictionary?

No, there was no option for that. Only a list of languages, and,
funny enough, german three times. But I tested all of them, and
none worked.

What finally made it work was something you mentioned in one of your
earlier mails about the subject, namely some code in the first line
of the .dic file. So I looked at the american english dictionary and
 found in the first line:

 #LID 0

I added this to my CSAPI_DE_UD.dic and voilà! It works! a valid locale.

None of my CSAPI user dictionaries include any numeric or alphanumeric
code in the first line, they are just a plain text list of words, one
 per line.

What I am guessing happened to you is that you started with a completely
empty user dictionary while I did Import my old user dictionaries right
 after creating the new ones.

That's right, that's the way I did it.

Again, my guess is that if right after creating the dictionary you
had added a first word from the same dialog, it would have worked. I
think that the '#LID 0' is just taken as the first word in the
dictionary and it is probably displayed as such if you do a Spell
Checker/Dictionaries and select your CSAPI German one.

Yes, that is well possible. The '#LID 0' does, however, not appear in
my list of words.

So I think it's even more easy to

 - create a textfile with the line #LID 0 in it

Yes, it seems easier but with the 'risk' of having to create several
Registry keys manually. And also, #LID 0 is not needed, just one
(any) word that you want to be in your user dictionary.

So I looked at the american english dictionary and found in the first
 line:

 #LID 0

I forgot to ask, which American English dictionary? Because I have:

 #LID 1033 1 89 (in accent.tlx)
 #LID 24941 (in correct,tlx)
 #LID 1033 1 1017 (in Ssceam.tlx)
 #LID 24941 (in userdic.tlx)

Neither of them...alongside with the new german dic I also created an
American English one, and when I looked into that file it had the
'#LID 0' in it.

So to me it seems like this is a miracle that only the developers can
work out. I don't even think we can file a useful bug report, because
what we did and what worked does not follow a logic principle.

Maybe let's file a report for the greyed out buttons, and then we
check if these are working correctly and creating the right registry
keys. Can you do this? You are much quicker as I am I guess...

Thanks again!

Hello MAU,

When I copy some text from the preview pane and then 'Past as Quotation'
I get an extra character at the end of the quoted paragraph that is
 displayed as a square.

Looking at the source code this looks like an ACK (non printable)
character, because it is '=06' in quoted printable format, which
represents the ACK character.

No clue where this might come from. I copied the above quote just the
same way, let's see if it has an extra character when it reaches you.

The new Editor Font Selection with Profiles: Problems with reading HTML-Mails

2008-02-21 Thread Martin Schuster
Hello Tbbeta,

I am having trouble with the display of received HTML Mails since
4.x. Let me explain:

I have a fixed width pixel font set for writing and reading text mails
(profont http://www.tobias-jung.de/seekingprofont/) that works only in
8px size.

In 3.99.29 it was used for all text-only display, and HTML-Mails
without font definition were displayed using another font, because
there were different settings for MicroEd/Plain Text and HTML/Windows.

But since 4 there is only one font definition, divided into different
sets for different locales. That's good idea, but it has the
disadvantage that the same font is now used for displaying plain text
and html-text (without font definition).

This has the effect that my fixed width font is used for normal text
in HTML-Mails (which it shouldn't), and the size also differs from
what I defined in the settings, so its near to unreadable.

I'd rather not switch the font because is is so perfectly readable.
So I switched to display HTML/Text Emails as text first as a
temporary workaround.

But what I'd prefer was another setting in preferences -
viewer/editor - profiles - [profile] that allows me to set Plain
Text or HTML (or both) for a profile, in addition to the
locales/languages selectable right now.

What do you think? Maybe I am the only one having that problem.

And please: no font discussion now, I searched for fonts to read
plain text and program code on the net long enough to be sure I am
using the font that suits me best...! ;-)

The autocompletion feature works as expected:

type Name - Name, Firstname [EMAIL PROTECTED]

My addressbook entries are of this kind:

Address Book == Delete Message?

2008-02-21 Thread Steven P Vallière

Yesterday, I accidentally noticed that the address book
button on the toolbar now deletes the currently selected
message instead of opening the address book. The button
shows 'Delete' as the tooltip as well. That was with
4.0.14.1 and is still true with 4.0.14.3.

Picking 'Address Book' from the Tools menu works as
expected, as does pressing F8.

FWIW, I've never attempted to make any changes to the
default toolbar or any items on it. Also, I'm not sure
if this is related, but the toolbar icons look strange...
They seem to have some odd visual artifacts (see attached
GIF images [main and edit message toolbar images included]).

Also, in case this is relevant, I used thebat_pro_4-0-14.msi
to upgrade from 3.x to 4.x and the rar to get 4.0.14.1 and
4.0.14.3 and I'm running on XP; Windows Explorer shows this:

Here's what I did:

of buttons
4. Click on the 'Remove' button in the Customise dialog

5. Close the customise dialog
6. Hover the mouse over the button that should be the
address book and see that it still has a 'Delete'

7. Right-click the button bar
8. Pick 'Customise...' from the popup menu
9. Notice that the 'Delete' item is back
10. Report this strange behavior to TBBETA

4.0.14.3: Intermitent failure of Automatic spell checking

2008-02-21 Thread MAU
Hello all,

I saw this problem several times yesterday but, so far, not today.

I always use 'Automatic checking' and, after having written several
messages with no problems, I was writing a new one and noticed that
typos (misspelled) were not being underlined in red. I checked the
'Automatic checking' in 'Spell Checker' menu and it was selected. I
don't know why but I decided to deselect it and select it again and...
voila! there were several words marked as misspelled.

As I have said, this happened several times yesterday and in all cases
the problem was 'cured' by deselecting 'Automatic checking' and
immediately selecting it again.

Anybody seen something similar?

It's hard to see, but the lock is actually *open* (on the right
 side)! ;-)

hmm, it is, You have right, but this is almost impossible to see it

Maybe the lock should at least look more like this:

   ·———·
   | |
   ·———·
   | • |
   | | |
   ·———·

The RIT guys seem to have slightly reworked the icon.

Cheers!

v4.0.14.4 - repeat test of previous error

2008-02-21 Thread Graham

 Hello,

as previously reported to this forum with v4.0.14.3 - still occurs
with v.0.14.4

Program in loop?
 ---
I have found this always crashes TB resulting in a not responding
message after 20 secs delay of 100% processor

Options/Preferences/protection-anti virus
in my case select
AVG Free Edition Plugin for The Bat v10/AVG7.5.516
configure
select default
then change some options for email scanning
press OK]

program hangs - not responding message - TB program deleted

Anyone else support this for remedial action

Best regards, Graham

Addendum (maybe it helps): It's only one virtual folder that shows
these strange creation dates/times.

Please fix https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=6713 .

SSCE spellchecker still doesn't work for me on my Vista 64 machine.
Brakes as soon as even one file is copied to the Speller directory
(for example userdic.tlx). See
https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=6745 .

The weird thing is that it works on my laptop (running Window XP) and
doesn't work on PC (running Vista 64).

I've compared the registry settings and they look exactly the same
(everything what is speller related).

Using Hunspell at the moment.

Missing Functionality in Standard Toolbar and Message List Pop-Up

2008-02-21 Thread Bill McCarthy
Hello TB Beta List,

After running the reason betas for a while, some of the
items in the Standard Toolbar and the message list pop-up
are in gray and don't work.

Specifically, the items in the Toolbar are (1) Reply, (2)
Reply to All, (3) Forward, (4) Redirect, (5) Print, (6)
Save message(s) to a file and (7) Delete.

The items in the message list pop-up are (1) Reply, (2)
Forward, (3) Redirect, (4) Save as..., (5) Delete, (6) Mark
as Unread, (7) Mark as Read and (8) Print.

I can cause the functionality to return by closing TB! and
restarting it. But after a while, it goes away again :-(
