Can you put the DSPeaker unit between the Touch and the Benchmark using
optical? Touch supports up to 24/96 -without- EDO. You'd still be able
to use the USB for your external drive.

I recently bought a NAD D3020 for use with my Touch as a DAC/Amp. It
can be set to go into standby 30 minutes after music stops playing which
works well. It also can "auto-sense" on its digital outputs and come
out of standby when it detects incoming data. This isn't working with
the Touch.
Search and you find that others have had similar issues with Yosemite
that have often been resolved after installing the LMS 7.9 beta. I've
been using the Windows version for months and it is very stable. You'll
also find some nice new features: Random Albums and the new Search
functionality
Once you power it up the Touch will step you through its setup. All
straight-forward. Firmware will depend on what version of server you
are running. Post back here if any questions/issues.

That said, our obsolete Squeezebox still has a lot going for it:
- free server, player and controller software
- cheap Android/linux hardware players
- hi-res and large
