Don, I don't know about Universe but Unidata has the INPUT - FOR statement to do this. It looks like this... INPUT VAR,5_: FOR 1200 ELSE IF @SYSTEM.RETURN.CODE = -1 THEN VAR = '*'. It waits at the input prompt for 30 minutes, the @SYSTEM.RETURN.CODE is set to -1 to indicate a time out condition.
