[SOGo] OT: Thunderbird in Enterprise

2011-12-19 Thread Marc Patermann

Hi,

to all the SOgo users using Thunderbird as mail client software with the
Sogo add-ons this might be of interest for you:

tb-enterprise
is a mailing list to discuss deployment and configuration of
Thunderbird in enterprise environments. tb-enterprise is a community
for mutual support for everyday tasks based on first-hand experience,
and a forum for fostering better tools, documentation, options, and
functionality to support Thunderbird in the enterprise.

In 2012, we intend to have more of those exchanges via email, phone or
any other relevant communication channel. But to do so, we need to get
more decision-makers joining the debate for the Enterprise community:
the number of registered members of the Enterprise Mailing list is still
in the 100’ -when Enterprise represents millions of users!

We need your help to get more Enterprise decision-makers joining. Help
us enrolling your peers and get them signing up on the Enterprise
Mailing List:

Send them a mail suggesting to join
https://mail.mozilla.org/listinfo/tb-enterprise.

Next time we will need to pick up your brain or exchange about
Enterprise specific topic, you will have a louder voice.

We really hope that we will deliver an awesome Thunderbird in 2012.

Sorry for the noise.

I think, what you want to tell is that your problem is with NAT, isn't it?
You come across a lot of routers while using the internet, and this is
probably alway fine. :)

Is there anybody who figured out how to configure apache, so that it
is possible to access SOGo from the outside?
It think you have to tell a few more details about your configuration

So has any reader find a way to implement this securely?

I think the following should work:
- define different services in cyrus.conf for localhost and the public
interface listen=; like imap and imaplocal
- set sasl_pwcheck_method: alwaystrue for your localhost service with
  imaplocal_sasl_pwcheck_method: alwaystrue.

[SOGo] ZEG in KVM

Hi,

I want to try SOgo ZEG in KVM (Ubuntu 12.04).
A quick read on the internet tells that it seems technically doable to
use either an OVA or a VMDK file in KVM.

Can anyone tell what in real life is the easiest way to get ZEG running

I don't see how I would always have enough bandwidth to download everything

So while there are still a few small challenges, it's already
posssible to create an offline HTML5 e-mail client today.
So, your point is that is no problem Thunderbird might go away and SOGo

[SOGo] SOGo Connector and Davical

2012-07-18 Thread Marc Patermann

Hi,

I just tried to use latest SOGo Connector with Davical 1.0.2 and CardDAV.
I installed the add on in TB ESR 10.0.6 and created a remote address book.
On start up of TB there is a connection to the server which is responded
to with 207.
I created two addresses book entries, but hitting synchronize does not
do anything.

In TB's error console there is nothing.

What is wrong here and how to find out?

[SOGo] CardDAV iPhone

2012-07-20 Thread Marc Patermann

Hi,

I successfully connected an iPhone to SOGo via CardDAV. The iPhone is
not complaining about the connection. A Virtualhost on port 8800 is active.
I see OPTION and PROFIND action in Apache accesslog and in sogo.log for
/SOGo/dav/test1/.

But on the iPhone I cannot see contacts from the server and contacts
added on the iPhone are not synced to the server.

(CalDAV works as expected.)
I got a backup for the user and the file does only include the contact
added via webGUI or Thunderbird.

What is happening here?
With which debug setting can I see what is wrong?

Apple in the instructions for CardDAV says port 8843:
The port is one of the only things, that you can configure for CardDAV
on the iPhone. And while the iPhone is not complaining and there are
connections on the SOGo side, I don't think this is the problem here.

This is the problem.
There are contact on the server.
There are other contacts on the iPhone.
There are connections between the two.
There is no sync.

Also concerning the port: If 8800, then this is plain TCP. If 8843,
you chose to use SSL. As far as I remember myself, it is necessary to
store the CA on the phhne, if self-signed certs are used.

Did you also add the specific dns-entries?
_carddavs._tcp.yourserver.com.IN SRV 0 5 443 carddav.yourserver.com.

iphone - sogo carddav works (surpringsinly) flawlessly here.
As you can see in the log files I've send there are connection between
the iPhone and SOGo.
So dealing how to find the server DNS entries and port is not the
issue. Prove me wrong. :)

Can you post your apache config, the problem might be here.

I started a new test.
On a new ZEG image I installed my gnustep defaults file.
Added a few calendars, apointments, address books and contacts via WebGUI.
Changed Apache's ports.conf to listen on 8843 too.
Added your virtualhost as sogo-carddav.conf in conf.d.

For example, here's the apache conf I've added to make Carddav working:

VirtualHost 0.0.0.0:8843
ServerName sogo.domain.tld
SSLEngine On
ProxyRequests Off
SetEnv proxy-nokeepalive 1
ProxyPreserveHost On
ProxyPassInterpolateEnv On
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule /principals(.*) /$1 [L,R]
RewriteRule /SOGo/dav(.*) /$1 [L,R]
ProxyPass / http://127.0.0.1:2/SOGo/dav/ interpolate

Proxy http://127.0.0.1:2
RequestHeader set x-webobjects-server-port 8843
RequestHeader set x-webobjects-server-name sogo.domain.tld:8843
RequestHeader set x-webobjects-server-url https://sogo.domain.tld:8843;
RequestHeader set x-webobjects-server-protocol HTTP/1.0
RequestHeader set x-webobjects-remote-host 127.0.0.1
AddDefaultCharset UTF-8
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
/Proxy
/VirtualHost

I had to a2enmod ssl.
And add the certificate settings to the virtualhost.
After successful restart of Apache, I connected via Safari to store the
certificate and configured the new CardDAV server in the settings.

Nothing changed for the iPhone. :(
The entries in sogo.log are still the same (see

does it _have_ to be apache? if not, I'd have a working nginx
configuration for you, if you're interested.

it depends. :)
This is an early test installation to show: Yes, it works here.
That's why I take ZEG and just change the gnustep to use my mail and
ldap servers.

If using nginx means nothing more than:
- apt-get install nginx
- shutdown apache
- copy your config to the right place
- change hostnames
- start nginx
- use the iPhone successfully,
I'll give it a try. :)

[SOGo] Database from scratch

2012-08-31 Thread Marc Patermann

Hi,

based on the work of user oeufdure I was able to successfully build
1.3.17 with opensuse build service (and building 1.3.18 now).

In the installation document I find nothing about preparing the database
itself (creating tables etc.). Does SOGo do this on its own?

I find update scripts for database, but no installation script.

When I try to run i.e.

postgres@rzhs211:~ /install/sogo/SOGo-1.3.18/Scripts/sql-update-20070724.sh
Username (postgres): sogo
Hostname (localhost):
Database (postgres): sogo

You will now be requested your password thrice...
After that, a list of SQL operations will scroll.

psql: FATAL: Ident-Authentifizierung für Benutzer »sogo« fehlgeschlagen
psql: FATAL: Ident-Authentifizierung für Benutzer »sogo« fehlgeschlagen
psql: FATAL: Ident-Authentifizierung für Benutzer »sogo« fehlgeschlagen

I'm not prompted for the password anytime. It does not work.
(Tried with users sogo and postgres.)

I'm surely missing something.

sogo.log complains about:

That is generally a sign that you wrongly configured/customized your

updateURL= in extension.rdf is pointing to the SOGo hostname sogo.foo.
If I change it to another hostname, which is not sogo, the
Benutzerrechte (user rights?) button is greyed out and not working.
So I think the integrator is configured in the right way, because this
is the only thing to change, right?

The x-webobjects-server settings in SOGo.conf are like this:

RequestHeader set x-webobjects-server-port 80

RequestHeader set x-webobjects-server-url http://sogo.foo;

But which passwort is used to login into the Imap-Server?

When you log in to SOGo, you use a password. This is checked against

With SOGoForceIMAPLoginWithEmail set the mail address from your user

[SOGo] installing SOGo extension outside the profile

Hi,

in general we install extension outside the profile directory of
Thunderbird in the program default directory.
This way extension are unaffected by profile resets or new users. The
extension are always there.

This does work with the SOGo extensions as well. They are found and
available for the user.
But with the integrator it is a little weird. While most of it works,
some functions like deleting a calendar are not.

What is this?
Is installing the SOGo extension outside the profile not supported?

[SOGo] Order of Extension Installation

2012-11-14 Thread Marc Patermann

Hi,

this is somehow related to bug 1977 http://sogo.nu/bugs/view.php?id=1977.

If sogo-connector is installed first and sogo-integrator is second, all
works fine.
If sogo-integrator is installed first and sogo-connector is second,
deletion of a calendar i.e. is not send to the server. (like in bug 1977)

We like to install our extension globally, so we put them in program
default directory (outside the profile). In this case we have no
influence in what order the extensions are installed.

With a blank profile this is always wrong for the two sogo extensions.

Is there any way to influence the order of extension installations?

This is not alphabetically by the file name.

The order of the installation is reflected to extension.sqlite.
If we delete sogo-integrator restart TB and install it again, it gets a
higher ID in extension.sqlite and all is fine.

There is a lot of documentation about the Mozilla prefs on the Mozilla

Sometimes it is the easiest to save prefs.js, change a setting and then

You can examine the ZEG installation and transfer it to your real

Otherwise there is a lot of information about setting up IMAP and LDAP

login@domain, is it possible to give this information to SOGo?

This is not pure LDAP so linux ldap libs do not support this, this is
special to MS ADS. An LDAP bind has to be by DN (simple bind) or by an
SASL identity (sasl bind).

* Actually, when a user authenticate, SOGo uses the Administrator

like to have clear password in my files, is it possible to bind
directly with the user account then use the same login to get the
other user information useful for SOGo (with the format

You don't need an administrator account for search, if all the data
needed to identify the user in the DIT (find the DN) is available by
anonymous search.

1) Free / Busy URL field in the address book - I just can't find

2) Address Book synchronization does not work. When I added it by

interface), but after that no updates are not pulled nor pushed

3) Is there a way to add an address book with all existing users to
Thunderbird? The target is to get calendar planning working properly,
so that all the users could see other users' free/busy information.
Free/Busy works fine through web interface, but actually I can't find

On first start SOGo pulls the personal address book and copies it to an

If you want to store the information if someone is a SOGo user or not,
you have to set an attribute accordingly and include this in your LDAP
filter in SOGo conf.

You can set password expiration i.e. in openldap by the password policy
overlay. But I'm not sure if SOGo honors this.

In general SOGo does an LDAP bind with the credentials entered by the
user which the LDAP server handles itself.

Is it the same validation with the Webmail and Thunderbird ?

There is documentation about this ?
If you are connecting to the SOGo services (SOGo Web GUI, CalDAV,
CardDAV vie Thunderbird/iPhone/etc.), SOGo uses the configured
authentication backend.
If you are connecting to other services - like your IMAP server - it
uses the there configured authentication backends. In most case this
should be the same.

Does this answer your questions?

Any JavaScript error in your browser's console?

Is the returned JSON correct? The request URL should like this:

http://hostname/SOGo/so/username/Contacts/ldap-source-id/view?noframe=1search=name_or_addressvalue=georgsort=c_cnasc=true

thanks.

Yes, the json has the correct amount of contacts. They are just not
displayed.
BTW: it is the same in Webfrontend an in Thunderbird. So the problem may
be on the server side, not in the web GUI JS (besides the JS is used in
the extensions too).

[SOGo] SOGo displays less contacts than ldap entries found

2015-03-05 Thread Marc Patermann

Hi,

if I search for a name in the address book, like georg, there are a
number of entries found in ldap.

SOGo does only display _two_.
This is the same for a lot of cases - 98 entries found in ldap, 24
displayed etc.

When I search for a user to give access to my calendar, no contact is
displayed in SOGo, but the entries are found in ldap.

The ldap log do tell what SOGo is searching for and the corresponding
entries are found, but not displayed!

[SOGo] Appointment Mails - double or nothing?

2015-06-18 Thread Marc Patermann

Hi,

with SOGoAppointmentSendEMailNotifications set, mails on invitations and
appointment changes are created and sent.

That is what we want.

We use 2.2.17a and Thunderbird with the extensions.

On a new invitation there is one mail sent.
This mail is created by the SOGo server itself.

If one reacts on an invitation, SOGo immediately sends another mail the
the meeting originator. This is fine too.

But then Lightning(?) asks, if to sent a(nother) mail in Outlook format?
If yes, there is a second mail created and sent from the client host to
the meeting originator. This is not fine at all.

If SOGoAppointmentSendEMailNotifications is off, then there is no Mail
no more. :(

How do I achieve to get mail sent, but only one(!) per action and this
has to be Outlook compatible to communicate with external partners?

You can share calendars readonly to the world.
For that you have to set SOGoEnablePublicAccess to YES.
Then you can share every calendar with Public Access.

[SOGo] invite resources - do not send mails to them?

2015-07-02 Thread Marc Patermann

Hi,

I just started with implementing calendars for resources.
While I can invite them now just fine, I do not understand why the
resources have to have mail addresses and why invitation mails are sent
out to them.

These resources are just an ldap entry, because they have to be found,
and the calendars for the resource is created by SOGo itself, fine.

I don't want the resource to be mailed at. There is not mailbox and
there should be no mailbox.

Interaction with the resource - on invitation - is done without mail anyway.

Can this be turned off?
Turning off invitation mail completely is not an option, because of
interorganizational invitations.

About the double mailing I posted here about two weeks ago - see
Appointment Mails - double or nothing? - without reaction. :(

But in the ACL gui the search string turns red and nothing is displayed.
Users themselves are found perfectly fine.

A group looks like this:

dn: ou=OFD-Z-REF12,ou=gruppen,ou=humans,ou=foo

objectClass: groupOfNames
cn: alle Beschaeftigten des Ref. Z 12

description: alle Beschaeftigten des Ref. Z 12

No!
You have to do that manually.

I nominate adding the database schema upgrade script to the deb and rpm
install/upgrade scripts. It would need to detect the current db schema
version and apply the appropriate db updates. Which it surely does
already...
That automation alone would probably reduce friction by 5%.

whatever is done, remember:
The db don't have to be on the same host as the SOGo daemon is!
We have i.e. have multiple SOGo frontend server and a postgresql cluster
(with pgpool) in the background.

Single server scenarios are not all there is.

Prior installation I changed the integrator add-on according to the

won't show up in TB even after reload (the other way around works fine).
Also when I create an event in TB, I cannot edit it later on (I can just
view it). Anything else works just fine for me.

So I'm wondering whether is the way it's supposed to work or whether I
might have some config issues with my installation.

No, it is not supposed to be that way. Please check your config.
If you reset your TB profile, are all the SOGo as expected (all

Integrator.

that would be nice.
Should I write a feature request?
(Is this possible in the bugtracker?)

After about 1.5 year of development, Inverse is extremely happy to
announce the immediate availability of SOGo v3.0! This release is
considered ready for production use.

When will the classic theme, that many users have requested in the last
months, be added?
The new "mobile first"-design may be nice to look at but it is painful
to work with on desktop computers.

if I understand correctly the new thing with 3.0 is the new WebGUI.
If you do not want it, stick with 2.3.x which is the same under the
hood, and have the well know WebGUI.

I can stick with the desktop-friendly version (v2) as long as it will
receive security updates and bug fixes.
And I hope this will last some time or I have to search for an
alternative...
you can - as stated in this thread - offer both V2 GUI and V3 GUI and
let the users choose (if it is not a support issue). Maybe over time V3
envolves and users like the V3 GUI more.

We don't use the WebGUI at all.

Re: [SOGo] Why have you choosen SOGO?

why have you chosen SOGo? I'm looking for a groupware. SOGo is so far my
favorite, but there are some other (also free) alternatives. Which
programs have you tested? What were advantages / disadvantages?

as said by others:
- great integration in Thunderbird (hope this will stay with us …)
- integration in our existing infrastructure
-- stay with your IMAP server (other than Zarafa)
-- stay with your SMTP server
-- only little change in our LDAP objects was needed

Documentation is far better than i.e. at openXchange, where we were not
able to install and integrate a test server in our environment.

With Thunderbird as our mail client for Linux and Windows new users only
need to type mail address and passwort - thanks to automx! - restart
Thunderd and type password for SOGo again and they are ready to use mail
and calendar.

Integrating SOGo with SOGoSync and an MDM is on the list.

You're most likely running out of db connections.

that seems to be the case, yes.
pgpool and postgreSQL were not properly tuned.
