Hi René,
If prize is a concern, you could also use the bananapi + sata cable for 35+7
euros:
https://www.conrad.nl/nl/banana-pi-1-gb-zonder-besturingssysteem-banana-pi-1196100.html
https://www.conrad.nl/nl/banana-pi-data-en-stroomkabel-bananapi-sata-1233543.html
There are a few drawbacks, but I don't think that's a problem for a VDR box:
->Board is not open hardware, you only get the schematic, not the design files
->Much less IO's
->No LiPo charger / UPS function
->The RTC has no battery backup, so you need NTP.
->Not all images are stable, but the debian image is OK.

Full disclosure: I use the bananapi as a standard platform for measuring setups
at work.
Cheers,
Cedric

Hi,

If you want to replace hardware, may I suggest using a board based on the
allwinner A20, like the bananapi or the A20-OLinuXino-LIME? I had one of those,
and it's a powerful beast. It has dedicated network and SATA, so the USB ports
are free to talk to the tuner. One thing though, it does have accelerated video

audio), but I don't know if VDR already is capable of taking advantage of it.

[vdr] vdr on arch linux, and on debian wiki

2015-08-06 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl
Hi All,
I have started 2 articles about VDR, one on the arch linux wiki, and one on the
debian wiki. on the arch linux wiki, there are a lot of people who edit the
article, but on debian i am the ony one.
I don't understand why. Could it be that vdr is a sensitive subject for debian?
What are your thoughts about this?

Speaking of small and cheap, does anyone have such a VDR server?
Something like an Allwinner A20 with SATA hard disk for the recordings,
and a USB DVB-T/T2/C adapter, and using the built-in IR receiver and
HDMI output? I have been dreaming of that, but I guess my almost
15-years-old 900 MHz Celeron box just refuses to die. :) There even are
ready-made cases for a SATA disk and the Cubieboard3 (Cubietruck).

For client, I am using the Samsung SmartTV plugin. Not good for heavy
use due to the bad SmartTV platform, but bearable. Recordings cannot be
edited via it, and subtitles do not work.

   Marko
That would be me. I have an alwinnerA20 with 3 DVB-T USB receivers. I use
vdr-xineliboutput and vdr-sxfe on the same machine. It works, but it uses the
CPU for playback. I am told it should be possible to use softhddevice, but I
have not yet tried it.

Also, there's something going wrong with the DVB-T receivers, I have to
power-down-and-up my machine every week, some special memory in the kernel
fills up. Also, when I do a warm reboot (while the receivers remain powered)
the initialization goes wrong somehow, and the pre-amplifier in the receivers
is not enabled, and usually vdr can't use the receivers. My receivers are the
PCTV NanoStick 73e SE (solo)
http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Pinnacle_PCTV_nano_Stick_%2873e%29

Performance for recording encrypted shows is OK, I have recorded 3 encrypted
shows at the same time without problems. Also, copying files using samba to and
from the sata harddrive is not noticable while also watching, and recording TV.
My board has 100Mb network, and I see consistent 11MB/s read and write
performance. Write performance on the uSD card is terrible, even with a class
10 card. Updating debian on the card takes patience.

[vdr] merge 3 recordings of the same show to remove glitches?

2015-02-18 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl
Hi vdr list,
I have recorded the same show 3 times. The reception was not optimal, so the
are a few places where there are glitches in the recordings. When I play the
files with mplayer, i see messages in the terminal as mplayer tries to conceal
the errors. The glitches are not in the same place on the 3 recordings. Is
there some software that can detect the errors, and then replace the damaged
sections with correct data from the other 2 files?

Re: [vdr] Restart of frontend

2015-02-14 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl

We have no times for this isolated feature of starting X and vdr
parallel, because we do more.
We don't use lircd, but eventlircd, because eventlircd has not to wait
until the remote devices are ready, so the vdr don't need to wait for
them too.
Many current dvb tuners need long time to get ready, sometimes because
usb enumeration happens late, or firmware has to be loaded. For this
Lars has invented the dynamite plugin that collects tuners when they are
ready and gives them to the vdr.
Other distributions have to wait with the vdr start till the last dvb
tuner is ready. We don't wait for any of them. The vdr will show a
picture when the first tuner comes ready. Of course it is very hardware
related, but 10 seconds from bios post till live tv is possible. We had
even some customized setups that did it in 6 seconds.

Gerald

Hi Gerald,

This sounds great. What is the name of the distribution you are refering to?

Hello,

I want to publish a maintenance release for Permashift
(http://ein-eike.de/vdr-plugin-permashift-english/) and
thought about including some translations. I've already
got German, English and Russian.
If you'd like your favorite language to be included, it's as
easy as translating the following 7 texts. For support of
SD TV displays it would be good to have every line except
the first two to be smaller than say 35 characters, if possible.

Full line texts
* Permashift out of memory!
* Press key to continue permanent timeshift
Short texts
* Auto-buffer live TV
* Enable plugin
* Memory buffer size
* Buffer saving blocks rewind
(This means that pressing rewind results first in saving of the
whole buffer and rewinding has to wait for that time. To be
honest, I found that hard to express that short even in my
mother language...)
* Maximum recording length (hours)

[vdr] netherlands digitenne: howto watch the naughty channel?

The question itself:
I have followed this guide to setup digitenne on debian. It works great, but I
cannot figure out howto send my pincode to the smartcard. Without the pincode,
the smartcard (read by oscam) refuses to create keys for the naughty channel.
Where in my configuration can I start my search for the solution?

[vdr] digitenne recording: image is shifted a few pixels to the left

2014-10-05 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl
Hi All,
I have used this guide to install VDR on debian:
https://wiki.debian.org/VDR
When I play the digitenne recordings, I see the first few rows coming from the
right of the image are actually on the left on the image. It's like the image
is rotated a bit horizontally. It's a bit hard to describe, but if the original
picture was like this:
12345

What I see on my monitor is like this:
51234
51234
51234
This happens when I playback with VDR itself, and also when I playback with
VLC. Therefore I think it's in the recorded .ts itself. I have seen it with
recordings made on my arm allwinner A20, and on recordings made with a AMD
athlon 64. Both recordings are made with the same DVB-T receiver.
Has anybody seen the same on their recordings? Is this my DVB-T receiver, my
version of VDR? Or does digitenne (DVB-T Netherlands) actually broadcasts the
signal like this?

[vdr] delete recordings instead of renaming to .del?

2014-09-07 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl
Hi All,
After I have watched a show, I delete it within VDR. VDR immediately shows me
there's now more free space on the disk. In reality, VDR has renamed the .rec
directory to .del. Therefore the recording is not really gone, and still takes
up space on my hard drive. After some time VDR removes all .del directories.
Then the space is freed on the hard drive.
Is it possible to let VDR immediately remove the recording from the hard drive?
How does VDR decide it's time to remove all the .del directories?

[vdr] cedarX on allwinnerA20, vdr-sxfe uses more CPU than mplayer

2014-08-12 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl
Hi All,
I have an olimex AllwinnerA20 board. I have used the following guide to enable
cedarx:
https://www.olimex.com/forum/index.php?topic=3560.0
This works fine, I can now watch big bugs bunny and the sintel trailer in
1080p.
Next, I have played the same mpeg2 SD recording by both mplayer and vdr-sxfe.
vdr-sxfe uses a lot more CPU than mplayer. (about 70% vs 14% @600MHz)
When I look at the messages by vdr-sxfe, it see vdr-sxfe does use vdpau:
$ vdr-sxfe -f

I have seen a german guide to use cedarx and softhddevice, is this a better

Hi All,
I have figured out howto change the soundcard vdr-sxfe uses:
Sound via first soundcard:
$ vdr-sxfe --audio=alsa:hw:0,0
Sound via second soundcard:
$ vdr-sxfe --audio=alsa:hw:1,0
Hope this is useful for anyone,

[vdr] Debian, howto get the latest and greatest VDR (source) packages?

2014-08-10 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl
Hi All,
I have installed VDR on debian. This works OK, but the version of vdr in debian
is a bit dated:
$ vdr -V
Aug 10 14:38:11.807 [general.debug] using new 1.7.11+ capture code
vdr (1.7.28/1.7.28) - The Video Disk Recorder
epgsearchonly (0.0.1) - Direct access to epgsearch's search menu
quickepgsearch (0.0.1) - Quick search for broadcasts
streamdev-server (0.6.0) - VDR Streaming Server
xineliboutput (1.0.90-cvs) - X11/xine-lib output plugin
conflictcheckonly (0.0.1) - Direct access to epgsearch's conflict check menu
sc (1.0.0pre-HG-29b7b5f231c8+) - A software emulated CAM
live (0.2.0) - Live Interactive VDR Environment
epgsearch (1.0.1) - search the EPG for repeats and more
I have tried to use svn-buildpackage, as stated on the vdr wiki, but that gets
me an even older version (vdr_1.6.0 and vdr_1.2.6)
http://www.linuxtv.org/vdrwiki/index.php/DEBIAN_Compiling_VDR_Source_Packages
How can I get, compile, package and install the latest versions on debian?
Kind regards,
Cedric

Oh, hi, Martin! Long time no see.

Are you still using the old softdevice? I would have never guessed
someone is still using it :-)

Yes! I was in stealth mode for several years, until I finally upgraded
the software (Debian+VDR) from 2006 less than a year ago.

I tried to contribute some patches to make softdevice work with current
VDR. It seemed that the mailing list archive was corrupted. I have been
thinking of cloning the old CVS repository and committing my patches on
top of it. Not that I expect anyone else to use it. It is mainly for
preserving the history. :) Do you have any tips how to do that?

I'm using an ARM-Based Qnap-NAS as vdr server, it works really well
with an USB DVB-T Dual-Tuner, and xineliboutput. I'm in the process of
upgrading to a Cubietruck and a raspberry pi as client, but due to lack
of time I have not got very far.

OK, I see. I would prefer an all-in-one solution (HDMI output, DVB-T
input, Ethernet and hard disk in a single device). This would seem to be
doable with an ARM board that supports SATA devices. On the RPi I would
not expect it to work, due to everything sharing the single USB bus.

I am also building an all in one box based on the olinux allwinner A20 board. I
have everything working (DVB-T, digitenne decoding, SATA, HDMI playback). I
have connected 3 DVB-T receivers via a hub on one USB port, and the board
happily recorded 3 shows, one per receiver.

I am still struggling howto get accelerated video playback going. Now the A20
uses 70% CPU to playback a SD stream. I will look into using the android driver
with a linux wrapper around it. It should be doable, somebody on this list
reported success (but I didn't ask him for a howto)

The board can be clocked from 90MHz .. 1GHz. I have yet to measure the power
consumption, but the chip gets quite hot (about 80 degrees) when running at
1GHz continuously without heat sink.

Kind regards,
Cedric

[vdr] AllwinnerA20: vdr-sxfe dies after switching to radio station TV stations OK

2014-06-17 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl
Hi All,
I have installed VDR 1.7.28 on my olimex allwinner A20 using the following
procedure:
https://wiki.debian.org/VDR
This works great for TV channels, but when I switch to a radio channel,
vdr-sxfe dies. When I restart vdr-sxfe, it dies again, but I hear about a tenth
of a second of music. I also have installed vdr-live. I can use the web
interface to change the channel to a TV station. Then I can start vdr-sxfe, and
I can watch TV without problem.

[vdr] vdr on allwinner A20

2014-06-14 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl

The video driver is a weak point. It's strong enough to play my SD content with
VLC, but not when I enable deinterlacing or postprocessing. It's not at the top
of my list to solve, because it's enough for the SD digitenne recordings I have.
I think the drivers will improve in the future, so I just have to be patient.
The CPU / USB / SATA is impressive, It's fast enough to record 7 SD streams
from 2 different DVB-T receivers, and watch an 8th stream. But this will only
work if the storage directory is on a SATA drive, the internal micro SD slot is
extremely slow. An apt-get install cycle takes a very long time, even with a
class 10 uSD card.

Kind regards,
Cedric

How does it work so far? I've looked at Allwinner stuff before but I
wasn't sure if there were stable drivers for the Mali 400 GPU. I know
it can do 1080p, which makes it a good cheap htpc but only if it has
stable drivers. I also wondered if it has deinterlacers as well for
1080i content. I don't know if the A20 is strong enough to deinterlace
with only CPU muscle.

There are plenty of Allwinner-based mini-pc boards out there so it's
easily possible his device is one of those and not a tablet.

 You are correct. Its an olimex OLinuXino A20. This is the product page:

[vdr] [solved] allwinner A20: vdr-plugin-sc does compile, but binary incompatible

2014-06-12 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl
Hi All,
I have got the sc plugin now running on my Allwinner A20. It's now recording 7
TV shows at the same time :-)
It turns out the sc directory still had some old object files from my last
compile on the DNS323 NAS. As those do not have the same CPU, this creates a
file that does not run.
For reference, here are the steps I have taken:
1) Get the source and the debian patch:
$ hg clone http://85.17.209.13:6100/sc
$ wget
http://vdrbox.lautre.net/fichiers/VDR/debianize-sc/sc-debian-package-03062$
$ cd sc
patch -p1  ../sc-debian-package-03062011.diff
2) Apply the patches I've send in the previous mail:
patch -p1  ../sc-patches/sc-dvbcsa-camc.patch
patch -p1  ../sc-patches/sc-dvbcsa-camh.patch
patch -p1  ../sc-patches/sc-dvbcsa-devicec.patch
patch -p1  ../sc-patches/sc-dvbcsa-makefile.patch
3) back-up the patched makefile:
$ cp Makefile ../
4) start the compile process. This step will fail.
dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc -b
5) restore the Makefile from the backup:
cp ../Makefile .
6) start the compile process again. This time the compile will succeed.
dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc -b
7) in the parent directory the 2 dep files are present
cd ..
8) as root, install the 2 .deb files:
# dpkg -i vdr-plugin-sc_*.deb libvdr-sc-cardclient_*.deb
For more information, see the debian wiki, under VDR:
https://wiki.debian.org/VDR#Install_vdr-plugin-sc_and_libvdr-sc-cardclient_from_source

Hi All,
I have an allwinner A20 device. I'm trying to use it as my new VDR server. VDR
runs OK, I can watch and record free to air dvb-t streams. Now I would like to
watch the encrypted TV shows.
Therefore I am trying to build vdr-plugin-sc and libvdr-sc-cardclient from

The allwinnerA20 is an ARM processor. this processor does not have the SSE

use FFdeCSA, but instead uses dvbcsa. The resulting code compiles without
errors. I have done all the compiling on the A20 device itself.
When I try to start VDR with the plugins, I see the following error:

I have attached the patches I've made to the source, and the output on the

Hi jacek,
I use vdr-live, together with vdr-epgsearch. This allows me to login with a
browser in the VDR box. Then I can create searchtimers. Those searchtimers can
be set up for instance to keep recording until 10 episodes of a show exist on
the hard drive.
I hope this is what you were looking for.

Hi Reiner,

I have only experience with Digitenne in the Netherlands. This is a DVB-T
signal with CONAX protection.
I use a smargo cardreader, and a TVPC DVB-T receiver.
The software is OSCAM and vdr-plugin-sc and libvdr-sc-cardclient.

Details are here:

Please let me know how it works in Sweden.

Hi,

I would be interested to know if somebody uses VDR with ComHem
cable TV in Sweden. Is it possible to use the CAM and SmartCard with
VDR if you have a subscription? If so, what DVB cards and CIs are
recommended?

NOTE: I am NOT asking how to crack it! I just want to use VDR
instead of the receiver part of my TV.

[vdr] Epsilon Rikomagic MK802 IV mini PC: can it play movies in vdr / linux?

2014-01-18 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl
Hi All,
I'm planning to buy an Epsilon Rikomagic MK802 IV to use as a VDR server /
frontend.
It's based on a Rockchip RK3188 (Quad core cortex A9@1.8GHz, quad core mali
400@533MHz)
I wonder if this device can play full HD movies in linux. Does it uses the CPU
for this, or does it use the mali cores, keeping the CPU free for other things?

Re: [vdr] popcorn hour A110 / HDX 1000 as vdr client?

2014-01-18 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl
I came across this german page, it looks like the A110 can be used as VDR
client.
http://www.popcornforum.de/showthread.php?tid=5201pid=176551#pid176551
Does anybody has experience with this ?
Is there other / better ways to use the popcorn hour A110 as a vdr client?
Kind regards,
Cedric
I have tried to run the above software on my device. It works, but it's slow.
The way it works is that the code is compiled into a cgi. This cgi then asks
stuff from the VDR server, makes a html page from it, and feeds it to the
internal web browser. Then when you activate the link to the stream, the video
processor will play the stream.
Starting the stream is slow, but the moving picture itself is smooth. (Tested
with SD television scaled up to 1080p)
Playing recordings does not work, but watching live TV does.
If anybody is interrested, I will post a howto here.
Kind regards,
Cedric

Re: [vdr] VDR test series about frame detector

2014-01-15 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl

Then you compile the attached C++ file (unziped, of course):
 g++ -c framedetectortest.cpp

Then you're linking it:
g++ -o framedetectortest framedetectortest.o remux.o ringbuffer.o thread.o
tools.o i18n.o sections.o channels.o device.o audio.o ci.o receiver.o
transfer.o player.o osdbase.o

sdt.o nit.o dvbdevice.o diseqc.o recorder.o dvbci.o libsi/libsi.a -lfontconfig
-lfreetype -lpthread -ldl -
ljpeg

Now you've got an application called framedetectortest, which you can feed
your vdr recordings (*.ts files) to:
 ./framedetectortest 2.ts

The output looks about like this:

Checking file at offset 0
Without frame limit... Found I frame after 99452 bytes

With frame limit 6... Found I frame after 99452 bytes

Maximum TS package frame size needed for this video recording: 6

I need reports which number your stream resulted in (the Maximum TS package
frame size) and what you've tested
(Cable? Satellite? Terrestrical? HD, SD? Your country?). The result is
interesting even if it is 5 or 6.

Thanks in advance,

Re: [vdr] [ANNOUNCE] VDR developer version 2.1.3

2014-01-05 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl

The changes since version 2.1.2:
- The new function cCamSlot::Decrypt() can be used by derived classes to
implement a
   CAM slot that can be freely assigned to any device, without being directly
 inserted
   into the full TS data stream in hardware. A derived class that implements
 Decrypt()
   will also need to set the new parameter ReceiveCaPids in the call to the
 cCamSlot
   base class constructor to true, in order to receive the CA pid TS packets
 that
   contain data necessary for decrypting.
- Many member functions of cCamSlot have been made virtual to allow for easier
   implementation of derived classes.
- cDvbDevice::GetTSPacket() now calls CamSlot()-Decrypt() in order to allow
CAM slots
   that can be freely assigned to any device access to the TS data stream.

This is very exiting to me.I only watch one channel at a time, but I would like
to record multiple channels at the same time. I am investigating if it's
possible to move the decryption functionality from recording to playback time.
This allows me to run VDR on an underpowered platform that is fast enough to
record multiple shows, but only has the CPU power to decrypt one channel. (My
NAS would be such a platform)

Receiving all caPID's is a big step in that direction. Maybe I can alter VDR so
that it produces a recording containing the caPID's, the keys from oscam and
the audio /video data. Next, during playback I can then feed it through
libdvbcsa.
Also, when the CPU has some time available, it can decode TV shows in a
low-priority process. This will further reduce the realtime CPU load.

I wonder if there is a standard-compliant way to store the decryption keys in
the resulting .ts file.

Thank you for your hard work!.

Kind regards,
Cedric

I have added -ldvbcsa to the makefile, but this did not solve the problem:
### Includes and Defines
INCLUDES  = -I$(VDRDIR)
DEFINES   = -DPLUGIN_NAME_I18N='$(PLUGIN)'
SHAREDDEFINES = -DAPIVERSNUM=$(APIVERSNUM) -D_GNU_SOURCE
LIBS  = -lcrypto -ldvbcsa
SHAREDLIBS=
ldd now indeed reports the library being linked in:
# ldd /usr/lib/vdr/plugins/libvdr-sc.so.1.7.28
libcrypto.so.1.0.0 = /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabi/libcrypto.so.1.0.0
(0xb6dfb000)
libdvbcsa.so.1 = /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabi/libdvbcsa.so.1 (0xb6dd8000)
libstdc++.so.6 = /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabi/libstdc++.so.6 (0xb6d09000)
libm.so.6 = /lib/arm-linux-gnueabi/libm.so.6 (0xb6c6)
libgcc_s.so.1 = /lib/arm-linux-gnueabi/libgcc_s.so.1 (0xb6c36000)
libc.so.6 = /lib/arm-linux-gnueabi/libc.so.6 (0xb6b0)
libdl.so.2 = /lib/arm-linux-gnueabi/libdl.so.2 (0xb6af4000)
libz.so.1 = /lib/arm-linux-gnueabi/libz.so.1 (0xb6ad6000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.3 (0xb6fd2000)
But VDR still reports the error:
vdr: [10991] ERROR: /usr/lib/vdr/plugins/libvdr-sc.so.1.7.28: undefined symbol:
_Z18dvbcsa_bs_key_freeP15dvbcsa_bs_key_s
vdr: [11048] VDR version 1.7.28 started
And during the build, I got a warning that no symbold are used:
g++ -g -Wall -Woverloaded-virtual -Wno-parentheses -O2 -fPIC
-fno-strict-aliasing -shared sc.o data.o filter.o system.o misc.o cam.o
device.o version.o smartcard.o network.o crypto.o system-common.o parse.o log.o

dh_shlibdeps -pvdr-plugin-sc
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: package could avoid a useless dependency if
debian/vdr-plugin-sc/usr/lib/vdr/plugins/libvdr-sc.so.1.7.28 was not linked
against libdvbcsa.so.1 (it uses none of the library's symbols)
dh_installdeb -plibvdr-sc-cardclient
I find this odd, because /usr/include/dvbcsa/dvbcsa.h contains the function
prototypes for both dvbcsa_bs_key_free and dvbcsa_bs_key_s :
void dvbcsa_bs_key_free(struct dvbcsa_bs_key_s *key);
struct dvbcsa_bs_key_s * dvbcsa_bs_key_alloc(void);
But why are they concatenated into one symbol?

Cedric

Hi,

 vdr: [8118] VDR version 1.7.28 started

 I find this odd, because /usr/include/dvbcsa/dvbcsa.h contains
 the function prototypes for both dvbcsa_bs_key_free and
 dvbcsa_bs_key_s :
 void dvbcsa_bs_key_free(struct dvbcsa_bs_key_s *key);
 struct dvbcsa_bs_key_s * dvbcsa_bs_key_alloc(void);

 But why are they concatenated into one symbol?

Looks like you are using a plain C library with C++. The
undefined symbol is a C++ decorated one:

corei7:~ # c++filt _Z18dvbcsa_bs_key_freeP15dvbcsa_bs_key_s
dvbcsa_bs_key_free(dvbcsa_bs_key_s*)
corei7:~ #

It seems like the header files for libdvbcsa are not prepared for
C++. So the compiler puts a reference for a C++ decorated symbol
into the object file which the linker cannot resolve as the
library seems to contain only plain C symbols.

Try to put the #include statements for those header files into an
extern C block, like this:

extern C {
#include headerfile.h
}

This makes the compiler interpret the header file as plain C and
-- as a result -- generate plain C symbol references.

Hope this helps.

Bye.

Hi  Reinhard,

It works! I have done what you said in cam.c. Now VDR starts the plugin without
error messages.
now let's add the configuration files for sc, and watch some pay-TV (hopefuly)

Thank you very much.

I've added the configuration files, after this guide:

Now I got this error in /var/log/syslog :

not all devices ready after 30 seconds

Then I executed this:
# /bin/echo 2  /proc/cpu/alignment

After a restart of VDR everything works. I'm now watching an encrypted show.
CPU of the NAS is maxed out, but I don't see any framedrops in the show.

[vdr] popcorn hour A110 / HDX 1000 as vdr client?

2013-12-27 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl
Hi All,
My headless VDR server is starting to be usable. Therefore I'm looking for a
low-power client.
I have been given an HDX 1000 (cross-flashed with the popcorn hour A110
firmware)
I came across this german page, it looks like the A110 can be used as VDR
client.
http://www.popcornforum.de/showthread.php?tid=5201pid=176551#pid176551
Does anybody has experience with this ?
Is there other / better ways to use the popcorn hour A110 as a vdr client?
Kind regards,
Cedric

Hi Cedric,

How did you manage to install VDR on the D-Link 323?
Do you have a howto?

Regards,

--
loesc...@gmx.de

Hi Stephan,

I have followed he following manuals:
1) Install debian on the NAS:
http://www.cyrius.com/debian/orion/d-link/dns-323/install/
2) Install VDR on debian: (written by me :-) )
https://wiki.debian.org/VDR

The only thing is that sc does not compile on the NAS. In order to fix that I
have ported it from FFdecsa to dvbcsa. I will post the solution in this thread:
 http://www.mail-archive.com/vdr@linuxtv.org/msg17681.html

Also the NAS is slow, but watching one encrypted show, or record two encrypted
shows, or record 4 unencrypted shows works for me. SD quality, I don't receive
HD here.

Please let me know about your progress.

Regards,
Cedric

am not sure if softcam is a legal topic on this list, but I would
advise you to take a look at the dvbapi plugin instead of sc. I am not
sure if it will fix your problem, though - but it is a way more stable
and better solution in my opinion.

I had to go softcam to support Conax as well as there were no hardware

Not to my knowledge, though you might be ale to hack something
together. OSCAM does not require much to run, but I realize you are on
a very limited platform.

A slightly different topic, but I can imagine decrypting a TV station can be
CPU consuming. I expect the NAS to be too slow to decrypt multiple streams at
once. Is it possible to record a TV program as an encrypted .ts file? Is it
possible to decrypt the file afterwards? Is it possible to only decrypt a TV
signal white watching live?

Tonight I will test if VDR records an encrypted show as-is when no OSCAM is
available. It looks like streamdev just sends the encrypted file to the
browser. On my PC I see the buffer fill with 400KB/s, but no moving image, so I
guess it sends it encrypted.

According to the README file, I am missing ECMs and EMMs streams:
One commonly seen error is not an error in tsdecrypt at all. You
have to make sure that the software that streams channels from the
DVB card is sending ECMs and EMMs along with other streams. If these
streams are missing you'll probably get the following messages from
tsdecrypt:

2012-04-02 22:02:12 | ECM | Received 0 (0 dup) and processed 0 in 3 seconds.
2012-04-02 22:03:09 | CW | *ERR* No valid code word was received for 60
seconds!
2012-04-02 22:03:12 | ECM | Received 0 (0 dup) and processed 0 in 60 seconds.

Please configure your software to stream ECMs and EMMs. For dvblast
(version 2.0 and above) the correct options are --ecm-passthrough and
--emm-passthrough. Note that dvblast 2.1 have broken ecm passthrough
so use at least version 2.2.

Let's see if I can get dvblast to work on my NAS :-)

Cedric

[vdr] vdr on an underpowered NAS (D-link DNS 323)

Hi All,
I am trying to install VDR on my NAS, a D-link DNS-323. This goes great, I can
play record unencrypted channels. without any problem.
Next I try to compile the connax softcam plugin, as per this guide:

[vdr] Why use /var/lib/vdr?

2013-12-11 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl
Hi All,
I have build VDR systems based on arch linux and debian. On both, one half of
the configuration files in is /etc/vdr, the other half in /var/lib/vdr.
Why has the location /var/lib/vdr been choosen for the configuration files?
Best regards,

[vdr] Change vdr shutdown command (into pm-suspend)

2013-12-06 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl
Hi All,
I'm trying to make my TV server faster by calling pm-suspend instead of
shutdown. I have made a script that stops vdr, unloads the DVB-t driver,
suspend, resume, load the DVB-t driver, and restart VDR. This works nicely.,
see here for details:
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=5t=109612
Now I'm trying to automate it.
VDR is capable of shutting down the PC. This can be setup in /etc/default/vdr
Is there any way to let VDR call pm-suspend instead of /sbin/shutdown? Where is
the setting for it?
Best regards,
Cedric

VDR requires an output device to start.
But as already pointed out this doesn't necessarily have to be real
hardware but could also be a plugin.

However, instead of using (and recommending) such a heavy-scale (from
dependency and complexity perspective) plugin like xineliboutput, how
about the dummydevice-plugin as output plugin?
http://phivdr.dyndns.org/vdr/vdr-dummydevice/
or even the dynamite-plugin:
http://projects.vdr-developer.org/projects/show/plg-dynamite
which starts as placeholder and enables later configuration of actual
DVB devices.

Best regards,
Christian

That's a good suggestion, I didn't know it existed.

I will mention it as an alternative to xineliboutput. Personally I want to use
xineliboutput because I'm building a PC that drives my TV via HDMI, but
dummydevice-plugin is indeed useful if you are building a headless server.

Having said that, debian does not have vdr-dummydevice nor dynamite in their
repositories yet, If I figure out how, I will suggest it.

Best regards, and thanks for thinking with me,
Cedric

Just use xine or xineliboutput as output plugin, then VDR starts without a DVB
Device.
What would be the usage of VDR without input and output device ?

Thank you for this. I have installed xineliboutput on my debian installation,
but that does not auto-install vdr-plugin-xineliboutput.
I have installed vdr-plugin-xineliboutput, and now VDR happily runs without any
hardware. I have updated my manual to reflect this.
https://wiki.debian.org/VDR

Sorry for my choose of words in my previous e-mail, I did not intent to insult
anyone, but I was a bit disappointed.

[vdr] vdr-sxfe does not react to keyboard in debian, works in arch linux

2013-12-01 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl
Hi All,
I have a fully functional VDR server running under arch linux. I'm trying to
migrade to debian.
I have installed VDR and vdr-plugin-xineliboutput in Debian , and I can watch
nederland 1. So far so good.
The problem is that vdr-sxfe does not respond to keypresses. When I press m I
don't get the menu, when I press 2 I don't switch to nederland 2 and so on.
I have looked true the configuration files on my arch linux box, but I could
not find the option to let vdr-sxfe listen to the keyboard. On the arch linux
box I run a newer version of vdr (1.7.31), then on debian (1.7.28).
What configuration file holds the keyboard bindings for vdr-sxfe?
Best regards,
Cedric

[vdr] start VDR without hardware for test and tutorial

2013-11-28 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl
Hi All,
I'm writing a tutorial on VDR for debian. To make the individual steps as small
as possible, I would like to begin without any special hardware, just a normal
PC.
It turns out VDR refuses to run when no DVB card is found. Is there a
configuration option somewhere to let VDR run without hardware? Can I create a
dummy DVB device somehow?
The guide (unfinished) is here:
https://wiki.debian.org/VDR
Best regards,
Cedric

VDR 1.7.28
Debian 7.2.0 Stable (installed today)

[vdr] DNS-323 NAS with 64MB ram, can this run VDR?

2013-11-18 Thread cedric.dew...@telfort.nl
Hi All,
I have been given a D-link DNS-323 NAS. This machine runs linux, but only has
64MB RAM.
I have tested on my x86 machine. VDR uses 28MB RAM while idle, and this rises
to 48MB while decrypting and recording one SD channel.
Is it possible to run VDR on this machine? How can I keep the RAM usage low?
Best regards,
Cedric
