I received a transaxle in the mail and am prepping it for installation. I

this a shipping thing or should it stay on? I've never seen a clean transaxle

I've forgotten how much of the carb I can put on and still have the engine

I just can't remember if I re-install the whole thing in the car, or can I
have the manifolds on? the carbs on?
I managed to bend one of my circlips on a CV joint and ordered a set of
four from Chirco. The circlips that came are much thicker than those I took
off, they also do not have the holes in the end. I'm not worried about the
holes, and haven't tried to put them on yet. I don't want to open them up
miles on an 1915 cc engine
rebuilt by Strictly Foreign (circa 2000). I was running it with a single

I put two pics on my extremely inactive blog. It looks like the very end of
the valve stem has failed. The keepers are in place but the valve can move
laterally between them. Not sure if this is due to stretching of wear, but
I'm thinking I'll need to pull the engine and then the head(s).
Here is
I have ball foot swivel adjuster and there doesn't appear to be any
difference from that valve to its neighbors. The contact area at the end of
the valve stem also appears undamaged. It looks like a ring of material is
missing from the end just shy of the end.

Yes, a lucky catch. I still had plenty of thread on the adjusters and
didn't notice that valve being excessively loose the last time I adjusted
the valves. But perhaps I didn't adjust them as often as I should have.
Still, I don't think I had to turn it in any more than the others the last
time I

I finally got the rusted nuts off the heat exchangers so I have the
offending head off. I resorted to a cold chisel and pounded them off. Only
one was on so bad it split before turning.
Now, I need to decide how far to go with this.
1. buy an intake valve and keepers and replace just the bad one.
I took my head to a local VW guy (not a machinist), he checked out the
head. The valve guides are good and all the other valves are good too.
The bad valve was stripped of its grooves for some reason. I'm just going
to replace the one valve. While I hate to ask for advice and not take it,
the
match
it to the valve seat otherwise it will leak.

I have the head back and took a spring off another intake and an exhaust

I'd concur with listees on having heads quoted/done by a reliable shop.
Compare with your cost of individual valves.

The heads look good. I glass beaded the ports and chambers and found no

On the head that had the old valves in it I saw the wear on the keeper

You can also convert the light string from 117 VAC to 12 VDC.
http://www.fly.net/~thundt/xmas12v.htm describes it in great detail. It's
pretty simple, normally the 117 VAC is applied across all the lights in a
string, say 50 lights. In order to apply the same 2.34 V per light with 12
VDC supply
