i just got an IPad also. i found that if you go to the tabbs at the
left of the screen it will say IPhone Ipad or whatever apps you are
trying to find in the purchased secdtion. to get new apps just go all
the way to the right where it says the catagories tabb and then go back
to the left to
i believe you can have them in alphabetic order when you reset the
layout home screen right their in settings and go to reset but just
reset the home screen not the whole unit.

I would assume that the app needs to be open to download podcasts. Also, You
have the feature of downloading off of 3G as well as Y Fi so don't know what
will happen if you go out of range of Y Fi half way through a download. Get
